Brothers and sisters, would you please pray for me so that I can discern His will for my life and let His will be done.. Edit: Thank you for all your prayers.. It means a lot..
Homosexuality, similar to the brain’s sense of gender, is a naturally occurring phenomenon. In this case, it is a function of nothing more than developmental processes. There is nothing supernatural about it. Don’t force yourself into a relationship with the other sex, for you would only be denying them the genuine love they deserve, as well as lying to yourself.
Hey friend - remember, the bishop you just watched has also never married and lives a fruitful, love-filled life. We don't need to have sex with someone to love and receive love deeply, truly, and intimately. These passages in Genesis tell the story of mankind as a whole, but marriage is not the calling for every individual person. Ask God to lead you in love. Consider the people in your life right now that can use and appreciate you help, skills, and presence. Minister to those close to you. Be ministered to by close friends. You're going to make it. Day by day. Remember too, our Lord was also single. And he loved deepest of all.
I'm on the exact same boat as you. I have found some comfort in the Episcopal Church and have come to learn to accept my same sex attraction to a certain point. But I still struggle and doubt a lot. Mutual prayers.
Please pray for those that struggle with infertility, and secondary infertility, in the witness of these readings today. And please pray for their fellow faithful that would misjudge them as being part of "wokeism" or focusing on the self rather than seeing the actual struggle they are dealing with.
Thank you for saying this. There is a lot of prejudice in the church today against those who struggle to find holy spouses. Homilies like this which don't acknowledge that reality only add insult to injury to those people.
So beautiful and clear. I love the way God's Spirit uses you, Bishop Barron, to break down the Scripture in such simple and applicable ways. Be blessed always.
As a Church we need to do more to help people who find themselves single later in life, getting beyond the age of religious vocations, but finding themselves with physical, emotional and / or financial barriers to seeking and finding a spouse. How can we get better as a Church in helping these folks find healing and find their mission. The readings today have a deep meaning for these folks too. I pray for people who feel left out in the cold or that they have failed to live their mission when they find themselves in this situation.
This Sunday Gospel touches my heart deeply as I reflected on how God intervened through our Blessed Mother to save my marriage 17 years ago on the pilgrimage. Through interlocution, she gave me a mission, "You are to bring light to darkness," which I wept bitterly, being a promiscuous man. My life was transformed by being awakened twice each night to pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy filled with great joy and love beyond this world. Living a life of chastity is only possible when we completely trust and surrender our lives to Jesus and Mary. It is not once saved, always saved but through constant conversion to Christ. Viva Cristo Rey and Ave Maria.
Watching and reading this sermon is truly wonderful. It's incredible to witness Bishop Barron embodying the Word of God. "The are not just brought together out of mutual attraction: God has brought them together." Incredible. Wow. Thank you Pastor Barron for bringing this Biblical truth out for us to see.

This was a very beautiful explanation of the biblical focus on marriage. God knows that we are falling creatures and he knows that we can’t always make things perfect. But he also has to give us a standard to reach for and I think he understands we do our best.
Thank you Bishop Barron for so beautifully articulating God's plan for us, for building our society on the foundation of men and women committed to one another and as one flesh in communion with God and committed and open to bringing children into the world. How terrible it is today to see this vision abandoned, to see self as the paramount entity to the detriment of children and the insane insistence on the right to kill the unborn child. How can we not see that this view is societal suicide? We must regain our sight and sanity and repent. Only by returning to God and surrendering to His will can we achieve the human flourishing He desires for us.
Dear Bishop Barron, you are talking out of my sleeves! I used to have a lot of struggling with Jesus' strict words regarding divorce. It took me quite some time, until I could " fathom " it. For my understanding, God in persona of His Son always wanted to be recognized as a You. He did not want to be alone without any reflecting love. According to my favourite Saint, Hildegard von Bingen, God's Word was " My Son " , and thus everything came into being. The old creed says " Light from Light, true God from true God....". So everything was created for the benefit and wellbeing of the human being, God Himself wanted to incarnate to live with His beloved children. He let Adam follow his reflections, i.e. by naming the creatures, putting them in brackets like a formula, defining each individual creature. He let Adam feel his " loneliness " and incompleteness, missing the loving answer to his thoughts. Dreaming his companion is a wonderful picture that shows how a virtual picture can enter reality . Hildegard says, that recognizing Eva was recognizing his Love. Vice versa, Eva recognized Heaven. Eva, the " Rib ", makes him Man, who can walk upright. Imagine a man with a missing rib, cannot walk and stand like a human. God/Jesus had this in mind from the beginning, " I shall marry you for ever " and I shall love you again ", you will call me My Spouse. Latest, when he came to free His beloved Bride from eternal death, rather died instead of leaving her in the claws of the devil, followed her into the underworld to bail her out. How often has He been betrayed ? So, Marriage is the living sign of God's love, bringing Everything into life.
" together fall in love with a transcendent third.....". Now i remember how we fell in love with each other. When we were teenagers, we always attended the Wednesday novena to our mother of Perpetual Help. THank you Bishop for this reminder. God bless you
It´s really amazing to watch, and in my case also read, this sermon. It so beautiful and simple to see the Word of God in Bishop Barron. Here in Brazil we live now under the darkness of evil (the leftist power), but, our hope is our Faith and we also have very good Priest to illuminate the path and shadows.
I will pray for you and all who suffer like you. God loves you as do I. Pray the rosary every day and God will give you answers and therefore help you.
Please pray for those who have lost their way, gone astray, are under the influence of satan through drugs alcohol &/or have a emotional diagnosis. Mary Mother of all, please heal them and reconcile them with their families &/or to the Holy Catholic Church. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen
Beautiful Sermon, Bishop! ALL Catholics need to stand up for the unborn, marriage, family!!!! My husband & I will celebrate our 20 yr anniversary in 2 weeks & marriage & childrearing are the best things we ever did; for God, for ourselves, for each other & for society as a whole. We said right from the beginning that divorce was not a word that would be uttered in our house. It has not always been easy, but it has been worth it. We need to start seeing marriage & children as the blessing that they truly are. (also: I LOVE hearing you say out loud for us to go look at our Bible. I have had a lot of hate & ignorance from Protestants who go around telling people that priests tell us not to read the Bible. I personally have NEVER had a priest utter any such nonsense. I actually have a parish priest that reads directly from many sections of the Bible in his homily, separate from the readings/Gospel & our parish has 4 different Bible study groups. So to hear you say it outloud for anyone to hear is awesome!!!! )
It struck me when Bishop Barron said Adam is the prototype of scientists. I had considered this passage to reflect how God has chosen for us to learn. Certainly God knew that the animals were not a suitable mate for him. But He needed Adam to know that. In the negative knowledge gained through the initial experience of naming the animals Adam was able to then recognize the uniqueness and suitability of Eve as a partner.

I appreciate hearing all of what Bishop Barron says without that music which used to mask his words! Thank you for hearing our opinions on this matter!❤
God is at work in Bishop Barron to articulately re-present God's vision for marriage and family. We need this reminder when this vision is under assault and the brokenness of our world makes it difficult to uphold. I also recognize an important idea in today's 2nd reading, that God came to us in Jesus, identifying Himself with our weaknesses, so we could be restored and that it would be possible for us to uphold this vision to reveal God's glory in our marriage and family relationships.
This was a beautiful, sensible, and relevant homily, covering people's relation to our own families and even referencing the animal world as well. I am baffled over the increasing willingness of young people categorically to say, "No kids." I assume that when a culture like ours panders more and more to ever younger people that a certain percent will come to believe that life ends at age 16, and how they feel then will be the way they feel when they're 60. Except it's not, and I have quite a few "cat lady" friends, adamantly pro-cat-lady, who nevetheless admit to existential desperation caused by a combination of loss of religion and lack of family. These aren't stupid people but they seem unwilling to own up to the truth - I guess because there's a Comicbook Guy "I've wasted my life" moment that's hard to face.
Bishop, I have been blessed to be able to personally live these particular scriptures. We should not be blind to those who would abuse these words for evil ends. In languages you have things known as false friends. Just like how Das Boot is not about footwear, we need to be careful of the people saying our words and intending something else.
Beautiful and clarifying as always! I would have loved to hear more about the intersection of family and vocation. For me, it's easy to pigeon hole the term into the nuclear family as an American. But "family" has to mean more than just married couples with children or else we leave out all those who live the sacred single or religious life
God help us all, spouses, fathers and mothers to embrace life and comply with our family mission in search for trascendence, the Holy Spirit gives us sthrength to place our Savior Christ at the center of our hearts to fight against evil forces, and may the Virgin Mary come to us to grant us with her tender and maternal company. In the Name of The ❤ 👑 🕊 AMEN.
Thanks and God bless you Bishop Barron! I couldn't help but connect your homily and readings to a conversation I was involved in this weekend regarding couples and couples having children. Specifically, the conversation was about many couples not marrying let alone having children. Someone commented how at a park near their home most of the baby strollers had dogs! I do know that having children is a very deep and personal decision between a man and a woman, and that there are LEGITIMATE reasons for not having children or limiting the number of children, but I do wonder if Jesus does become "indignant" (Mk 10:14) when we replace children with pets. Right after the sentence where He becomes indignant he says in the same verse, "Let the children come to me; do not prevent them..." Is it possible that He means that we don't prevent them [kids] from being born? God bless you all! 🙏
My husband graduated from Wilbur School, Washington and I volunteered in the kindergarten class for 7 years. I tried to apply for a Paraeducator job but there was no way to get the job because the cherry on top was I'm sorry like crazy Red Bulls. Spyer B St. Matthew, pray for us. St. Peter, pray for us. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, pray for us. ( Coville WA) Our Lady of Lourdes, pray, for us. (Spokane) St. Faustina, pray for us.
Saul of Tarsus, who died in Damascus, was a profound follower of tradition and the rust that had made tradition the Pharisee priestly caste. Seeing and listening to the Lord, he understood that the Gospel, the Word of the Son of God the Creator, is much bigger than that Holy Land, because what is important is the soul, the only thing we are, and not the mere land Freed from the burden that Saul had on him, the one born in Saint Paul, preached to every soul because he perfectly understood the Greatness of the Love of his Lord In my opinion, Saint Stephen, the Brave, Humble and Eloquent follower of the Risen Lord, martyred for the Glory of his Lord, often accompanied Saint Paul on all his travels, while the traveling Apostle slept, and while the traveling Apostle was awake in his dreams I doubt that we will ever understand, at least I cannot and I doubt that I can, the Greatness of the Love of the Risen Lord when He teaches us to call God the Creator, Father of God Christ, and Father of every creature shown worthy of HIM, "Father." I doubt very much that I will ever understand it, if that blessed day ever comes.
At 72 I have never heard the second chapter of Genesis explicated so beautifully. The latter part of the sermon, however, was difficult. My husband and I would have loved to have had a houseful of children (none of this two and done for us), but I had problems that prevented conception. So often, it is assumed that that we chose not to have children, that we were selfish. Priests (and Bishops) should be mindful that when they speak of childless couples: there may be reasons we were not fruitful and did not multiply. A simple caveat would be so appreciated. There are more of us out here than you may realize.
Indeed, and the pain of such a cross must be immense. However, sermons such as this, that strengthen and reinforce the Church's teachings on marriage and family, are so desperately needed in this day and age. The Church indeed has a duty to proclaim these teachings. It is not to exclude those who have struggled with the heavy cross of infertility. But it is important that the Church addresses the fact of plummeting birth rates.
Those who are naturally childless should go for adoption. As my relatives have done. They are happy with the kids they adopted. I pray that every childless couple be granted the grace to adopt and find the joys of nurturing children.
@@കാഫിർമമ്മുകാരയ്ക്ക, my husband was active-duty Air Force pilot and away at least 50% of the time. Not conducive to being selected as adoptive parent. He did not want to adopt because of the many couples we knew with troubled adopted children. Rather, he wanted to go IVF (we weren't Catholic at the time). That was the time of octomoms (remember women giving births to six and eight children at a time-- the mid-1980s). I rejected that option on so many levels, including the left-over embryos that wouldn't be implanted but stuck in never-never land.
Suffering from same-sex attraction. Never been in a relationship. So when I heard this Genesis at the church, I can't help feeling hurt. Asking God if He wills marriage, why do I suffer like this..

These aren't stupid people but they seem unwilling to own up to the truth - I guess because there's a Comicbook Guy "I've wasted my life" moment that's hard to face.

Thank you! :)

But "family" has to mean more than just married couples with children or else we leave out all those who live the sacred single or religious life
Amazing!

At last we understand that Genesis 2 is not a literal description of Creation but of the very meaning of God’s creative act!
Forever a family...

What I heard was God, pheromones, instinct, intelligence and consent creates our families.
Bishop Barron pray for me. I say a daily rosary.
Please pray for me as a single mom hopefully one day god has a good step dad for my daughter.

“It is not good for man to be alone” is God’s antithesis of today’s narcissistic and individualistic society!
Saul of Tarsus, who died in Damascus, was a profound follower of tradition and the rust that had made tradition the Pharisee priestly caste. Seeing and listening to the Lord, he understood that the Gospel, the Word of the Son of God the Creator, is much bigger than that Holy Land, because what is important is the soul, the only thing we are, and not the mere land
Freed from the burden that Saul had on him, the one born in Saint Paul, preached to every soul because he perfectly understood the Greatness of the Love of his Lord
In my opinion, Saint Stephen, the Brave, Humble and Eloquent follower of the Risen Lord, martyred for the Glory of his Lord, often accompanied Saint Paul on all his travels, while the traveling Apostle slept, and while the traveling Apostle was awake in his dreams
I doubt that we will ever understand, at least I cannot and I doubt that I can, the Greatness of the Love of the Risen Lord when He teaches us to call God the Creator, Father of God Christ, and Father of every creature shown worthy of HIM, "Father." I doubt very much that I will ever understand it, if that blessed day ever comes.
