@@TOMReefer Hi Tom , Thanks for your reply. I did watch your video on cloudy tank , helpful... I'm not really sure if that's what it is but my reef store sold me some PNS bacteria sauce , said give it some time...any thoughts on that 🤔
@deraildarrell it may not be an all out bacterial bloom. My 10 gallon goes through short periods of cloudy water. You might try some carbon. But yes, sometimes water chemistry can be slightly off and causes that, and then it rights itself over time. It can hurt to try the carbon.
@@TOMReefer Thank you !! I believe what you are saying, might be the case . I do run Chemi pure, but might be exhausted . I will change it out...as well . After many years of reef keeping I’ve learned to know which ones are ok next to each other👍🏻 Corals of the same family usually will be fine next to each other.
@jibe4781 I will probably have to remove the rock, or place it so it can’t spread off the rock. I will have to use a razor to remove it from the bottom of the tank.
Advice on bubble algae? Have had my tank up about 4 months. It was looking Beautiful and then an outbreak. In like one day I saw literally 50 little bubbles all over my rock. Have you used chemicals vibrant? Reef flux rx etc.
Hi Scott, bubble algae has made reef keepers want to start their tanks over. The only thing I’ve found to get rid of it is manual removal or taking the live rock out and scrubbing it off. The manual way is to pick it off with a pointed siphon tube and siphoning the bubbles out. None of the chemicals work on it. Sorry I can’t be more helpful. I describe this in my most recent video
@@TOMReefer I’ve had my Duncan for 2 months and it never opened. This is not my first go with a Duncan it happened to me before so I decided to try again and still same result. My hammers and torches are fine. It’s a lps 75 gallon been running for 6 months
3 questions: 1: I am starting a new 12 gallon reef tank, and am planning on doing 10 percent water changes over 2 days. Thoughts? 2: I had bubble algae on my failed tank last year and could never get rid of it. Any advise on how to minimize that on my new tank 3: I am cycling a 2.5 gallon quarantine frag tank. My ammonia just dropped to 0 but my nitrite and nitrate are insanely high. After my nitrite gets to 0 how big of a water change should I do before adding coral
Hi Hugh, I’ll keep it short here, but get more into it in next weeks video. I’ll use your questions. 1. If the tank will be cycled already with live rock, then 10% weekly would be enough. 2. Bubble algae is probably the hardest thing to get rid of. If it’s on your rock and you’re using that to start your new tank, the only way would be to brush it off into fresh salt, water, and hope that it won’t grow back. But no guarantees.3. 2.5 gallons is very small for a quarantine frag tank once your nitrite reaches zero you can do a 50% water change and test your parameters again and see what they are as as long as the ammonia and nitrite don’t come back and your nitrate is below 20 ppm . you’re good to go.
Hi Talisa, yes, live rock is filled with bacteria. There are types of filtration to add along with live rock. The the main source of the biological filter is happening in and on the live rock 👍🏻
In your opinion, if you worked out of town like I do for two weeks at a time would you set up a saltwater tank with an ATO like do you think it’s a good idea
Ok, so you haven’t traveled for two weeks yet without some way to account for evaporation water. I think you better come off that fence😃 you need one for 1 week let alone 2 😊
@@TOMReefer I'm thinking about switching to IO because Tropic Marin is so expensive now and lots of people in the US, including farms like Jason Fox and Tidal Gardens, use instant ocean with great success. It's not popular here in the UK but it's still by far the cheapest salt, about half the price of Tropic Marin.
Tom ,one of my clowns the smaller of the 2 have a bloated belly i dipped in epsom salt 7 minutes ald put meds in tank for infections and paresites. Any suggestions i swear i would go to a vet if i could. Sucks.Hep buddy. Johnny
Hi Bruno, just let it be if the polyps are out. As long as the plug that it’s on is stable and not moving around, you should be fine. It will begin to spread all over and beyond the plug.
Hi Babak, I had more before my move. I usually only add hermits and snails when I see excess algae. However, you might be right! I may need more. 😊 I do have a shrimp in there 👍🏻
I had an emerald crab that ate bubble algae. Now I use a sharp knife and scrape it off w/o bursting the algae and than turn on flow up and use fish net and scoop that bubble algae out of tank.
Hey Guys! Some updates and tips today!! have a great view! done forget questions! 😀It will help our community!!
Looking great!!
Thanks, Cory! 😊
Babe wake up Tom Reefer New video just dropped !
😁that’s funny!
Can't wait to see what you do with the 20 gallon! Good luck catching the fox face - that would make a great video too. 🙂
Fox Face and questions is coming out today! 🙂👍
Always love the videos. Very practical way to reef keeping. Very refreshing to see no need for high tech to keep a tank looking great! 👏
Thanks El Niño! 😊👍🏻
Another good one, Tom!
xCaspow in the house! 😃thanks! Haha
Tom reefer you the best
Thanks J man! 👍🏻😃
HI Tom 👋 great tips 👍 😮 It's snowing in my reef tank "bacteria bloom " Uhuuuug... not a nice thing to look at ... 😎 DD
Hi Darell, are you asking if I have any ideas on what may have caused it? 😊 what do you think happened to cause it?

From now on, ur gonna be my Reef Guru😂😂❤
Also, what do you use to clean ur glass
@jasonyang5296 good question! I use regular window cleaner, but most of the time I use Zeiss lens wipes 😊👍🏻
And how do you have your corals so close (pretty much touching) but they arent bothering eachother? In ur big tank
After many years of reef keeping I’ve learned to know which ones are ok next to each other👍🏻 Corals of the same family usually will be fine next to each other.
@@TOMReefer sorry, I ment the glass on the inside of ur tanks
Hi Tom. Very interesting with your technic for remove GSP.
Hi Jean, my technique might not be to scientific 😃I will probably just pull it out😃
@@TOMReefer like the hair agae it is very hard to remove it on the rock. Like you my GSP is growing too much 🤣
@jibe4781 I will probably have to remove the rock, or place it so it can’t spread off the rock. I will have to use a razor to remove it from the bottom of the tank.
@@TOMReefer clear. I will do that. Thank Tom

Could you make a video on Duncan's? I have the worst luck with them
Hi Shawn, sure! I did one some time ago, but maybe a bit deeper on a new one. What seems to be the problem with them?

Tom, how much kelvins you had on leds? Look nice white.
The whites are around 6500k. It’s hard to measure that on LEDs
I’m curious about saltwater tanks with no filtration system, is it better and more natural than saltwater tanks with a filtration system?
Hi Talisa, yes, live rock is filled with bacteria. There are types of filtration to add along with live rock. The the main source of the biological filter is happening in and on the live rock 👍🏻
Mr.Tom long time no talk! It’s RG getting back into my reef tank again. 🪸 🐠 👍🏻
Hey RG! Glad to hear that! 😃👍🏻I took time off from making vids, but back again 😊
In your opinion, if you worked out of town like I do for two weeks at a time would you set up a saltwater tank with an ATO like do you think it’s a good idea
Hi James, it’s actually quite necessary. How do you top off evaporated water while you’re gone? 2 weeks would cause quite a salinity swing.
@@TOMReefer I don’t have it set up yet. I’m on the fence of setting 1 up.
Ok, so you haven’t traveled for two weeks yet without some way to account for evaporation water. I think you better come off that fence😃 you need one for 1 week let alone 2 😊
Remind me please, what salt do you use Tom?
Hi So So, 😊 instant ocean, reef crystals.

I’ve used IO reef crystals for 25 years. Very constant and reliable 👍🏻😊

I’d have to see a pic. And you probably should have just put it in qt. And not medicated the whole tank 🫤
i tom can tell me the setting for ai prime 16hd for 100 liters cube..thanks a lot
Hi Vallycrem, it’s 35% Blues and UV, 35% CW, no Red no green 👍🏻
Hi Tom. My GSP starts to peel from the plug but have all the polyps out and happy, what i should do?

@@TOMReefer Tanks Tom 😀✌
I’ll put your question in next week video😁
Where'd your mandarin go? Haven't seen that little guy in a while
Hey Brandon, she’s 🤪still in there. Looking around on rocks. 😃I’ll have to include the mandarin in my next vid.👍🏻😃
Don’t they use forceps for circumcisions… Tom did you take up a new hobby??? lol jk great vids from one of my favorite reefers!
😃I think they do? 😂 but not as large as these😁 thanks Tanks👍🏻
I dont see many snails or shrimps in your clean up crew whys this?
Hi Babak, I had more before my move. I usually only add hermits and snails when I see excess algae. However, you might be right! I may need more. 😊 I do have a shrimp in there 👍🏻
can't you catch him at night when he's sleepy using flashlight
Hi Ban, no it hides in the rocks 😊
I hate bubble algae 😞😞 i cant get it to go away for life of me!
😊welcome to reef keeping 😁I fight with it on and off. 🙏🏻
I had an emerald crab that ate bubble algae. Now I use a sharp knife and scrape it off w/o bursting the algae and than turn on flow up and use fish net and scoop that bubble algae out of tank.
I’ve tried emerald crabs, they’ve never worked for me. But your technique with the knife and net works, been down that road. It’s just so tedious 😊👍🏻
