    Missed Rules and Video Errors worth mentioning...
    - Witcher Battles... You only receive a trophy if you are the AGGRESSOR and you WIN the fight. If you win the fight as the defender, you unfortunately don't receive a trophy but at least no one can attack you as that town's tavern is then shut down, disallowing additional fights. This promotes Witchers to not be so afraid to engage in a fight because as the aggressor you don't have much to loose, other than allowing the other winner some additional gold, haha.
    - @Marcuspolus01 from BGG pointed out our silly error about receiving damage. You actually DO CHOOSE your cards that get discarded at the point that they are coming out of your hand, unless you're dealing with a monster's attack card effect that refers to choosing a random card. I must have skimmed too quickly over the Monster Damage section from pg.25 and started reading into the second rule to make this mistake, doh...
    - Radosław Zagrodzki mentioned here that during dice poker, it's only the house that bets 2 gold to 1 gold from the Witcher, however the Witcher-to-Witcher wagers are always 1 gold to 1 gold. We did remember that when playing but it is definitely worth mentioning directly.
    -Buddy Wahlquist also pointed out that during Witcher poker bets, each Witcher of the two participating have to throw one coin into the bet but the house will also add a third meaning the winner will still receive two more than they had before. It's also worth noting that you have to have at least one gold to initiate a bet with anyone including the house and the other person can't refuse.
    - VarikasPL brought up the order sequence when dealing a combo that involves shields. You have to deal damage and resolve any resulting special effects a monster might do in retaliation before then receiving your shields second. Continuing off of this, it's worth mentioning that any other effects such as card draws will take place after shields, therefore being third in the order sequence.
    -jaspersnippe4383 mentioned that he tends to forget shields replenishing after a battle and I thought that also sounds like an easily missed rule. So if you battle, win or lose, all of your shields up to your defense level replenish.
    -Phase 3... You can't horde cards from one round to the next to start your following turn with your hand limit of 7 cards. You will always have only 3 cards when you decide what market card to take and possibly discard to pay for, discarding down to 3 if you have more beforehand. However, there are certain event affects that may allow you to draw one, or possibly more than one, additional card/s which I believe is intended to mean you can have more than 3 cards in hand before the market purchase if that is the case.
    - Darthus pointed out that we misspoke during the potions rule. We had said you can use as many potions as you want but we meant to say up to your alchemy level's number listed.. That's an easy rule to see during leveling but also easily forgotten during the excitement of actual combat!

      Another think worth mentioning in my opinion is resolving combos during the fight, especially with the Monster weaknesses and special attacks. Firstly you deal damage, after that you gain shields, draw cards etc. Why is it important? Becouse with that expansion monsters may use special attack while receiving damage and you will have to take that damage to your life pool, not the shields you havent gain yet. I hope its clear what I want to say:)

      You're right! We misspoke a bit there. We meant to say you can use as many as you'd like up to your alchemy level! I think that's one of those rules that you see while you're playing and leveling up but is easily overlooked as well once you're actually in the midst of combat. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll add that to the list!

    Quick clarification on something that’s incorrect in this video: When receiving damage, if your deck is empty, you don’t have cards randomly discarded from your hand. The rulebook specifically says the player taking damage chooses which cards to discard from their hand. Definitely not random. It’s page 23 of the rulebook. Thanks for making this video, it was helpful to check against my own understanding of the rules!

    Thanks for the tips! I thought that it makes no sense to discard cards while paying in phase III instead of trashing them, but it does make your phase I shorter in next round.
    As to the poker, bank gives 2 coins only when you play with the locals (area action), not with witchers, then it gives only 1 coin.

    • @organiccardboard
      @organiccardboard  Год назад +2

      Yes you're correct about that! That was one of the little rules I thought to mention after making the video 😅. The Phase 3 discards can definitely make a difference as to how much you can adventure around on your next turn but those expensive cards really make you powerful during a fight. I lost the last Witcher battle because I was favoring cheap cards the whole time.. but thankfully I was the aggressor, haha.
      That's another rule I wish we'd have mentioned. If you win as the defender of a Witcher-on-Witcher battle then you don't receive the trophy that the aggressor otherwise would have.. It's an odd rule but it really promotes you to try to fight sooner than later and to otherwise need to avoid your fellow Witchers.

    Helpful video! I also got the damage order wrong but caught it before I played. I think what is confusing is the format of the page where it talks about monster abilities. It talks about damage and the next section is about discarding. In my head I thought they were linked, but they are two separate entries. When the monster damages you, you go shield->deck->hand, but if they use that discard ability, you bypass shields and go hand->deck

      Hey we're only half literate, haha. I agree that those who are much more meticulous on their first read through will understand the rules just fine, these were just ones we personally missed on our first (even second) playthrough. The one thing the rulebook is missing though is an index/table of contents. Yes you can and I believe at the locations you pay at you can raise your attributes above your level as well. The only thing about levels is that all of your attributes have to be raised above your current level for it to increase and thus gain the bonus and you can only get those free leveling location actions if that particular attribute is at or lower than your level.

    There is something I don't quite get.
    When a player finisher his 1st phase, he can proceed to 2nd phase - where he can either fight, meditate or explore. In this phase unless the Witcher is about to initiate a combat there is 0 to no sense in keeping any action cards in hand, because you'll just draw to 3 in phase III anyway. Then why are there some negative exploration effects that force the player to Trash a card from hand as a penalty for a wrong choice? It is very confusing, in almost no case will a player be left with any cards in hand at this point so he does not trash anything, and this is a huge benefit. What is the point, can someone tell me? Am I missing something? Shouldn't a player just trash a card from the deck or discard pile if hand is empty, just like after Fatigue?

    • @organiccardboard
      @organiccardboard  7 месяцев назад

      Hey there, sorry I didn't see this comment until just now. I must have missed the notification.. As far as I remember, the main reason why you would want to hold onto cards is so that you would have even more ready in hand for the next round, which is especially helpful if you plan to fight a monster and you have a trail token for them, that way you are set up for a big combo to start. So maybe you are hanging onto cards to setup that combo for the following round and you might loose them during the exploration option that you take, thus throwing some variability into your plans for the fight coming up next time.
