My name's Matt Urch and I own and run Urchfab welding and fabrication.
I specialise in custom automotive fabrication from building roll cages to complete one off builds. I built the worlds most unique and oldest drift car known as 'The Drift Rod' which can be found on my channel.
So if you're into grinding, welding, fabricating, etc, you're in the right place!
Woo thanks for the shout out!! And man ohh man that's a much sexier way of doing it :) knew you would make it sick af!!!!!!!
Yes Matt! Loving the regular uploads. Mongrel becoming a pedigree
I second this comment
👍👍👍😜🦄🏴🎣😁🤞✌️
74 eps of the Mongrel! Who’d have thought! Still enjoy each episode - can’t wait to see it hit the track!
been thinking about buying a 300d, was almost discouraged when i saw the lack of suspension parts available thanks for making this man!
2 wonderful bits of kit we all wished we had the plasma cutter and a big milling machine .
Always wondered why not just put multiple attachment points on the A-arm? Farther towards the wheel would cause the bar to spring more just like if you were to move the bar link closer to the bushing mount.
Loving the build.
Second only to Binky.
I have watched this from the start and all I can say is , it’s killing me waiting for it to move under its own steam !! I can’t imagine how you are feeling Matt !! And those people in the comments that say it can’t be precision made if he has to hammer it in, obviously don’t realise it’s a precision hammer 😝
Wow to quote an old song..." Your future so bright you gotta wear shades. Great channel Matt, thanks!
was talking with a friend about how the Brit guys like Allen Millyard might be a dying breed. Used to be a lot of top notch ingenuity coming from that place. Glad to see some guys are still proud and carrying on. 🇺🇸🏴 I too like to make my life difficult with a tig welder, angle grinder, and OCD.
What started as a Frankenstein project between an innocent Mazda MX 5 and an elderly Ford100E has won the prestigned Ridler award at the 2028 Autorama show.
The jury was anonymous in the opinion that the degree of originality and craftsmanship bordered on the insane.
good job on the custom adaption of that sway bar ...
Missing more "Like a Glove"! Try a Marxxman marker for marking holes, could work well for you.
Nice wk Matt, that plasma machine is worth it weight in gold,👍
FYI - Miata roll bars are just cold rolled. Not spring steel. I cut the long section out of mine, replaced it with 1 1/2" tubing, and welded it to the arms I cut off. Works great.
New shades...you should rock those when you're out on the town, so let's be real. Face it, you are just exactly that cool!
Looks great urchfab what work when you have the right tools ! Like a hammer ! Nice work Keep it up
The proper torque spec for any fastener is half a turn past stripped then back 1/4 turn.
Excellent Matt, I always new that with that mill, lathe and plasma cutter we would see some really nice work and you've not let me down.
Really great effort on this build, so looking forward to the day I see it move,
Seeing it go round a track is what got me watching his vids, from the start.
Surprised how easy you drilled through that bar. In the past I have tried drilling leaf springs and they are so hard the drill tip melts.
Nice job Matt!
Nice Polo MK2 in front of your shop!
Nice work on the sway bar!
I love the videos! keep up the awesome work!....but please run coolant when using the milling cutter! cant be good for tool life getting that hot.
Ugger - Duggers Eh! You certainly know all the correct engineering terminology!!!
you are a freaking genius mate good job
"Because I like to make my life difficult..."
You were worried about that heat to Sprung Steel would compromise its propertied, then you hack away half of the spring steel, and are the bolts strong enough not to snap or wear quickly rubbing against Spring steel.
Thanks Matt, I use those torque settings a lot.
Beautiful work as always 👌
yep - wake up in OZ and watch Matt with morning coffee.. Thank you for posting, the devil is in the detail and I am still always learning the details.
Hi Matt, big fan. quick comment (from an old engineer)......
that plasma cutter is brilliant, perhaps those side pieces could have been made more bespoke ie, curvy.
Not a criticism, they work, but a curvy profile is almost as easy to draw and the finished product would look even better.
Again, not criticising, just a comment. Cheers.
3 ooga dogas torque? Perfect. 👌
neat job .. good to see you keeping the torque wrench brigade happy
Cracking job!
Nothing wrong with welding brackets on to the ends of an anti roll bar, when welding just localise the area with heat sink paste or even a wet rag, its the main cross rail that does the twisting and must remain tensile.
Great job, you're 'sway' too good!
Tidy, I'm looking at compression struts and front ARB on the clapped out Capri. Lots of ways to go about it like you have shown. Looking forward to seeing this rip.
Well done!
Uhhhh like a glove 🧤
Great work, would love to be able to make things like this.
Top job 😎 Love it
You are correct and please use your platform to tell people that cutting coil springs is NOT ok
Hitting the town? Special shades req...... 😄😄😄
Ugga dugga...... is that the official tightness?
Another little job done what's next wiring ?? 👍👍👍👍
4AM Friday morning here in OZ. What am I doing up in the middle of the morning???????? Billy J........ Stralya
Back to bed mate.
Now 6am in Oz. I’m in a 3 star motel having just flown interstate and purchased a dc4 Honda integra as a base for a build and I haven’t slept a wink cause despite the place being 90% empty they decided to put a room full of junkies next door! Gotta love car chronicles.
yep - wake up in OZ and watch Matt with morning coffee.. Thank you for posting, the devil is in the detail and I am still always learning the details.
Well played, that man...
Is 3 ugga-duggas the same as two grunts with a big spanner?
Asking for a friend.
It's two grunts and a fart.
@Julian Crooks Oh wow...watch the conversion on that!
@Julian CrooksI still remember the old Whitworth ugga-duggas! I are ancient! :-O
Perfect!
That's a nice fit there, just tight enough to need a tappy-tap-tap.
That’s really smart Matt.
I have had trouble with stiffness for some time😉
When I'm out on the town, I keep walking into lamp posts.
I guess South Main Auto is watched...Ugga Duggas!
is this milling ??
Hi Urchfab ,What brand is your Mig Welder, whats it's maximum output ,and who sells them ?,cheers Richard.
Well done ,as allways 😎👍
Nice video. Awesome fabrication, looks trick! : ) Mahalo for sharing!
Wonder if longer bolts and nuts would have been better!
friggin sweet !!!
Nice job fits perfect looks nice as does it all stunning moter
👍👍👍😜🦄🏴🎣😁🤞✌️
Nice, I like the difficult way better.
Those brackets on the A arm, are they braced on the inside?
I have some concerns over the strength of those away bar connections too. You could do away with them all together by bolting direct into the side of the arm and using some longer sway bar links.
Clever stuff.
Thanks for sharing..
Nice work man. Just a little recommendation: avoid synchronous milling with such an old machine.
I sometimes walk into lamp posts with no shades whatsoever :D
Cool 👍🏾👍🏾🤙
hi very cool i dear look grate
That’s just cool as fook. Love the machine work mate. Skills!
Creative!
Do you have a link for the shades - I've been looking for some wrap around ones like them
I got them from Inverterfusion Bud.
tensile elasticity, that what you were looking for? ;-)
Definitely springyness.
Testicle what?
Torsional elasticity?
I never thought one could drill and tap an ARB, I always assumed it would be too hard.
Nice work
"LIKE A GLOVE!"
like a glove!
Very nicely done. Keep it simple by over complicating it.
Factree bud👌
That's top! Great video
Nice job, a lot of echoing maybe you should wallpaper, few pictures and some furniture should sort it 😂
Nicely done. Think I would have extended the bolt and put a nut on it. With lock tight. Plus some weld on the joints. I'm sure when all done a spring company could retemper it at a good price or if you give um a shout out.
"Really" a claw hammer in a metal working facility. 8~)}
It's a technicians tool! :-)
Great shout out to us chippies that cant do shit with metal!
Loving the build, jealous of the skills!
LAG... Nice
Cool shades. #3uggaduggas
Boom notification sqwaad
great stuff, is that your Polo in the background?
No not mine, I have enough rusty crap as it is.
@@Urchfab Oi, I've got a rusty old Polo GT that's not as rusty as you would think it would be, considering it's 29 years old :-D lol New ARB looks great by the way as with everything you do. You know, if you weren't so damn good, I'd hate you lol keep up the great work.
Is there a metric conversion for imperial ugga duggas?
Dugga uggas.
Whens the first drift sesh.
3 ugga duggas torque setting 🤣🤣
On a half charged battery, don't forget the important bit lol :)
That mill sounds like its got a few bad bearings in it
probably chatter against the cutter, it's sprung steel which is un supported. you can see it deflecting against the cutting force, not an ideal cut tbh but it worked out ok.
@@chrismechanic2000 Nah, you can hear it when its not against anything too
Yes its got a noisy bearing in the top.
TDB
Looks factory
Lay off the CAPS LOCK, please.
Wheres stuart i fear for his safety bro lol
In detox isolation for another 2 weeks. Sank one too many Corona's when he and the other tools in the shop had a party recently. The youngsters these days just can't hold their lube like us oldies. 😀
Earbud and headphone users WARNING! Loud banging and clanging in this episode. Adjust your volume accordingly. 😂😂
Three ugga dugga,s on a half charged battery. PMSL,
You've dropped some of your patreons off your subtitles. Please check.
Thanks I will check now.
i would comment "first" but I'm not a tw*t
What I'm going to do is take a neater, simpler, lighter, perfect solution - and make it worse, heavier, all for the sake of justifying a tool and for the sake of making a video....
