Looking back on this 10 years later… this is absolutely wild. I remember being a kid in high school watching this thinking how iconic this drum break was. Crazy stuff..
Well realistically players are supposed to be serious. Players are supposed to be professional and intimidating, not saying he isn't but you gotta show it. That being said I love his energy.
I must say, bluecoats have come a long way from where I thought they were. This is really clean and I don't see why they wouldn't be scoring in the top finalists every year for DCI
I love how Tom cant help but crack some smiles here and there, little smile, then back to being bad ass, little smile then back to tough guy. Love it, good energy. Congratulations on 2nd place!
@@sammyidobelieveiammy Yes, as far as I know. Tom has been writing for them since 2009 and is one of my favorite percussion composers. His books are so much fun to listen to! It’s something I didn’t realize either until recently. I always assumed caption heads also wrote for their corps like Rennick and Macintosh, but there is quite a mix. I think a lot of people would be surprised that Scott Johnson doesn’t write for BD, and hasn’t for decades!
If it hadnt been for BDs amazing book that year and it being as clean as it was, this group would have EASILY won. It must have been hard for the judges during finals. 2012 was a good year for Bluecoats
@@grahamhamilton2859 I earned a full scholarship using it as one of my audition pieces! Of course that was 7 years ago lol and I’m out of college now. Thank you Bluecoats 🙏🏾🙏🏾
both Bluecoats and Cavaliers always have very interesting lines/pits, BD aims to wow people with how clean and technical they can be( which they are VERY good at doing.) Overall i find lines like Bc way more fun to watch
The sound on this video. Thank God an EQ didn't dirty this sexy sexy record. Sounds so good. ❤️ Something about this group and every part of it I'm like.. this is something apart from anything any human's ever done or ever will do. On the sexy level
I agree that BD needs recognition. But I would say there book was way more exciting than anyone else's. They had the hardest book this year. By far. Their drum break was just stupid fucking hard. And the fact that they played it that clean at finals is outrageous. I still like bluecoats playing style much better but BD definitely deserved that drum title this year.
I finally understand why they're so clean
Jesus is their drum tech
Looking back on this 10 years later… this is absolutely wild. I remember being a kid in high school watching this thinking how iconic this drum break was. Crazy stuff..
I saw these guys live in 2012. The cleanest drumline I’ve ever heard in my life, live
No doubt!!
I've never seen a more intimidating tenor player than the big buff dude in the center.
stickflip723 that’s my boy onye 😂he even buffer now
@@devupinthisthangyea7378 damnnn
Oh Onye... yea he is also super laid back.. wouldn't hurt a fly.. unless you hurt the fly then he would hurt you.
Gotta love how everyone's so serious and then there's Reuel smiling through the whole thing
because he is proud to be a tenor...as i am..i smile when i play a successful run and im sure you would too m8
Never said it was a bad thing man chill. I love it
alright good man js...i thought you were hating lol
Well realistically players are supposed to be serious. Players are supposed to be professional and intimidating, not saying he isn't but you gotta show it. That being said I love his energy.
He’s in my drum core that I’m in right now. He techs the baseline.
when the quad break cleaner then ur browser history
Aidan De leon Donald's Trump's ass is cleaner than my search history
I don't always use incognito mode but when I do it is to watch this video
@@squanchy7364 this is the best comment
That tenor lick was sick as hell man. I loved playing them in high school, wish i was able to afford marching with a top corp like the bluecoats.
amen
Basically all of the Bluecoats battery staff are in this drumline
This line taking second was one of the bigger robberies in recent history. The coats were the cleaner line, and had the harder book to go with it.
I must say, bluecoats have come a long way from where I thought they were. This is really clean and I don't see why they wouldn't be scoring in the top finalists every year for DCI
Dynamics on snares + tenor attitude=outstanding work!
ive watched this video like 1000000000000 times. I still cant believe what im watching.. super awesome
I keep coming back to this video one of the cleanest features
That was absolutely insane to watch, the synchronisation is just something else...
I love how Tom cant help but crack some smiles here and there, little smile, then back to being bad ass, little smile then back to tough guy. Love it, good energy. Congratulations on 2nd place!
That cold buzz entrance by the snares at 1:18 was clean as hell! This is one of my favorite books of the last few years.
I legitimately have watched this video between 30 and 40 times. Tonight.
I could watch this all day
2:02 when those heads start bobbin' I was like OH HELL YEAH!
1:49 bass one 360
2:04 YEA BASS
0:14 Love the quad lick here
1:49-2:07 dammmm
Someone PLEASE giving this corps a drum trophy!
DONE
@@trieutan5931 Right on! Finally!
It's been almost a year already, and this vid still gives me goosebumps.
Proud of my guys in this line. T Gas and Reuel, both coming out of my Stamford HS programs.
This clip still gives me chills.
Best drumline I've ever seen in my life >>>
by far my favorite drum feature
That tenor feature seriously blew my mind.
I still watch this twice a week
One of the many reasons I would love to march Tenor for the Bluecoats
Crazy good! I love the lot hype! One of the best lot videos out there
1:29 ...
That's peak difficulty, executed perfectly.
Tenor solo, holy shit.
There is so much hype in this video. Hell yeah, I dig it so hard. Straight baller.
I wish I could go back in time bro. These guys are stupid clean on camera. Couldn’t imagine irl.
I still love this.
Still one of my favorite drum breaks ever
this is better then anything on television! Bad ass! I'd like to have you guys on my show!
Best writing I’ve ever heard
2:29 extended triplet is such a Roger Carter/Bluecoats lil tag and I LOVE it
Tom Rarick is the man who does the writing. Roger is a great teacher but doesn't write for them.
@@railmenindoorpercussion1977 I actually did not know that, but hats off to them! I assume they still write for coats?

@1:55 lol yo Bluecoats(Drumline) is definitely underrated
the quad line grooves and just hypes so dame hard
literally the best
WOWWW, they tore it up. Great video!!
not even an *ounce*
of dirt
u sure?
Literally the first bass attack is not together...
Quads are pretty crisp though.
@@DatGuyWithNoName besides 2013 bluecoats, this is my favorite quad line
DatGuyWithNoName you sure we heard the same bass attack?
Kaamel Mathis bass 4 and 3 were a little late
I've watched this too many times to count...
And it's still not enough...
Best quad break of the season.
cant stop watching!!
Love this drumline
I thought the 07-09 tenor lines were tight but WHOA the 2012 coats tenors were nearly flawless. Hope you guys get scored a little better in 2013.
cmon, those bass runs, and tenors solos, and snare solos, and cleanliness, and vocals are awsome. You like put go watch pit.
I think this is probably the best feature I've heard in 3/4.
Best drum feature in any time signature
XD, ORNAW, the best in any time signature in my opinion is Blue Devils 2012. Sorry, bruh. But you can't beat their drumline! :D
lol that's because writing in 3/4 is hella more fun than 4/4
2nd best drumline in drum core hands down. Even in 2019 even though the last two shows were crap
Sebastian_ Morando *corps
BEST LOT VIDEO EVER
If I could only listen to one thing drumline related for the rest of my life it would be those bass unis.
i play the drums in band i wish i could play like that yall guys are amazing
These guy's deserved top 3 in percussion.
Wow, that is so clean
The center snare at 2:05 was cheesing when everyone was cheering. That must have been a great feeling.
I've seen this video 110,010 times?! Not enough
2:06 - the snare in the middle... that smile. That's why drum corps is amazing.

I'm learning the snare music for this.
William Latham it's been 3 years how did it go?
5 years now bud, you learn it yet?
William Latham six years now, how's it coming along?

I jizzed my pants at the tenor solo
so much energy!
You know what, I'm a BD fan at heart, but goddammit, this drum break kicked the shit outta BD this year!
I think that Bluecoats definitely had the most tasty beats this year.
the last visual was dope
So many perfect snare pings. It should be illegal.
congrats on 2nd place in drums!
At Semifinals, yes. Finals night, Bloo was 2nd.
This book sounds like it would be fun to listen to in person
yea thats right, no dislikes. clean beats ALL day

i love at the end when the tenors are like "come at me bro, what!"
Fuck. Those sweeps were so clean there....
Academically obnoxious!! Bravo!!! Love it!!!

That drill matched the gig so much..
I didn't originally notice this but watch Bass 1 around 1:47 in this do a 360-leap in the air behind everyone... haha that's awesome.
Just saw their full runthrough. I noticed that they said that after I posted this. Thanks for the correction though!
You know your drum feature is badass when you end the down beat with the left hand.
Joel Myers went to my school long before I ever went there but I had the same instructor.
They got 2nd place in drums for 2012. They got pretty darn close, that's for sure.
3rd in drums my ass! This was(in my opinion) the most memorable, technical, and sexiest book out there!
I met Tom a while back, he's actually a pretty cool and nice guy. :)
Bluecoats never let down!
Hey, B. It’s been a while.
daaamn them snares were mad crispy.
How on Earth was it possible for BD to even come close to these guys, let alone beat them?

If i was judge i would be scared shitless of Onye's and Rural's faces after the quad break.......
yeah i went to dci.org and saw lol
Here for the quad break
I could rustle my love-muscle to that tenor line any day of the week.
