      Looks like 58 has quite a bit of damage also. I wonder if it happened on this trip. Possibly hit some MOW equipment or something.

    I had signals to drop in my face lot of times. After I got the train stopped, got permission from the dispatcher to,pass the signal, and carried on. I told the dispatcher the signal dropped in my face. He called out the signal maintainer and that was that. I have been stopped by the positive train control and there was not a signal around.

      As far as I know, Australian "PTC" is all electro-mechanical. All signals have a box with a metal "shoe" on the side and if the signal is at danger/stop, the "shoe" is raised. This "shoe" will hit a mechanical trip lever on the engine if the "shoe" is in the raised position and tripping the lever will mechanically release the air from the brake system, putting the train into emergency stop.
      Drivers generally carry a heavy lump of wood in the cabin with them to reset the trip lever with, since it can't be done by hand. They do occasionally need to travel past a signal at stop, with permission from the signal box, so they need to be able to reset the trip themselves in order to avoid long delays.

    So I guess I know which train was in emergency but don't have a clue as to why. What happened? The description says "after this happens" but nothing happened.

      If it was a key train (think Unstoppable), the conductor has to get down and walk both sides of the train to inspect. Gotta make sure nothing derailed.

    ~ Sounds like UP is playing games because they're pissed off with having to share trackage rights with CPKC.?. 🤔

    • @Chug_z
      @Chug_z 10 месяцев назад +2

      UP has generally been a pissy company… about everything. Plus they should’ve expected KCS’s tracks to pick up in Activity by a lot because of the merger with CP… and them having constant loads headed to and from Canada, US and Mexico with freight traffic, more than ever. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    If a railway company uses a foreign locomotive from another railway company do they pay a fee?

      @Chug_z 10 месяцев назад +2

      Canadian Pacific isn’t “foreign” power anymore. They’re officially a mixed US/Canada company that operates out of Kansas City Missouri.

    • @danielworthy2492
      @danielworthy2492 10 месяцев назад +1

      No foreign power applies to power that is not owned by its subsidiaries. UP uses foreign power like KCS/CP, NS,CSX vise versa

    • @eldorfthe_wise129
      @eldorfthe_wise129 10 месяцев назад +5

      @@donthateonme30 No, the light change was not expected to happen. You contact the dispatcher. They can see the board, can see there was no obvious reason for the light to change, checked to board ahead of the train and gave the engineer the ok to proceed (and you'll note it was at "be very cautious speed").
      Remember: the engineer can only go by the lights. The dispatcher has the overview of everything going on. If the dispatcher said "request to proceed past red denied" you wait. If the dispatcher said "request to proceed past red approved" then you proceed with extreme caution.
      I'm still wondering what caused the unexpected light change, though. Anyone every find out what caused it?

      If people are always using the family" cliche then they should stay out of logistics, and any other occupation that involves travel.
