Howdy! I personally preferred the Grahams, but i've typed up both the recipes here with some hints and tips since making the video if you'd like to give them a try :) barrylewis.net/recipe/homemade-golden-grahams-cinnamon-toast-crunch/
New video series idea? 'Breakfast with Barry' please make a sorta healthy option of Frosties i love them but too sugary lol and yes Cheerios please make those too love those awesome channel you always cheer me up with the dad jokes lol
i'm all for making your own on these because it's taking money out of Nasty Nestlés coffers! And these do look lovely. I love things with cinnamon in so I'll have a go at these when I get a chance. I tried the home made baked beans recipe but it didn't go very well. I think maybe the beans I used were too big - they didn't look it, but after soaking them for nearly 48 hours (they genuinely started to sprout!), cooking them in the pan for what felt like for ever and putting them into a casserole dish - *twice* - for almost a full day each on the lowest setting I could, only a few of them had softened enough to make them edible. I added some maple syrup too, which added a bit extra to the sauce. It's a shame mine didn't work because the sauce I made tasted beautiful.
It's probably cheaper per serving since American Cereal can sell for exorbitant prices in the UK. A $3 box of lucky charms might be $20 in a UK import shop.
@@kevinmaher4609 And here in the US, you can get a box of one of those "clean" cereals (I forget the name off the top of my head) for $20. RUclipsrs had them for sponsors for a short while, not sure what happened to them... or maybe people weren't that dumb to pay that much for cereal.
You know what you've done, Barry? You've given me such a craving for golden grahams, I went out to my local grocer that I happen to know carries them and bought a box. 10/10 do not regret. And this weekend I will give your recipe a try and see what happens!
In america, I had a large selection of cereal to choose from as a kid. Cinnamon toast crunch and golden grams were great choices. I went for honeycombs, Life, Rice crispy treat cereal and for a extra big treat Cookiecrisps.
Once again a video which I am absolutely going to try. Everything I have made from your videos has been outstanding!! I’m sure this too will be a winner!!! Thanks!!!
Thanks Lisa, I think it helps I do the recipe write-up after the video so I can add some tips in if I made it again. The grahams just shaded it for me on this one for authenticity. Fun either way
Thank you for this video! They are something I always look forward to. Just a note, they changed the name from Cinnamon Grahams to Curiously Cinnamon:) they are my favourite too!
Both recipes looked great! For an occasional treat, hand rolling the dough seems fine, but if you "need" to have cereal for a houseful most mornings, I'd think using a pasta machine might be a good idea. And I would see if , once you've got your sheet of dough, just putting that on your baking sheet and then cutting the squares but not separating them until after they have been baked. Another excellent video, thank you for sharing this with us all!
Barry if you plan to do lots of these they have these accordion style pasta cutters. I don't think you have ever tested one of these. Could you do a rough cost per serving? Even if it's in BP or USD would be nice considering the cost of cereals today.
I wonder if you simply cut them before baking but not separate them and then break them up afterwards would it make a difference? Less prep time I’m thinking. Really interesting!!
This is awesome! I was really looking forward to this video. It looks so much easier than I anticipated. I would love to see you throw in some gluten free recipes sometime. I'd love to make some of the things you make, but I'm gluten intolerant 😢
One of my family members is being tested for that. And really loves breads, cakes, cookies, you name it. Being gluten intolerant though is a real health issue, and does very real damage. So gluten free recipes would be really great! I could then make something for that family member at the holidays!
@@respectrealperson290 I always recommend Gluten-Free on a Shoestring. She has a RUclips channel, but her blog is the best source for recipes. She has LOADS of recipes and copycat recipes. I’ve never been disappointed with anything from her site.
If you’ve got a Farmfoods near you, you’ll find Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cinnamon Toast Churros and also French Toast Crunch for sale for £3.99/each. My favourite is the Churros as they’re just like the churros you get at the international markets, or seaside stalls.
Personally I think you might have had an easier time if you had just scored the full dough with your knife, but baked it first before breaking it up, in a similar fashion that you would for crackers. The cereal sheet post baking would snap apart much easier than you struggling to cut the individual squares and place them on the baking tray one at a time. Also, if you do try this again, might I suggest a pizza cutter instead of using a knife? Could make your life a little easier.
I love Golden Grahams, but can only find Curiously Cinnamon lately. Golden Grahams actually has no cinnamon at all in the ingredients - might make it without and see if it’s close.
That's exactly the opposite of our cereal boxes here in the USA, the boxes keep getting bigger and bigger! I can only find "family size" at my local stores, and there are only two of us in my family so cereal always goes stale. I usually just buy the variety packs, but I have to order them online now!
I think one slight way to improve it, would be to roll out the dough with a pasta roller. Then it will be more even and consistent, as well as giving you more control over the thickness of your cereal dough
@Barry Lewis I'd like to try this one day! I love both those kinds of cereal, and my goal is to swap yucky preservatives for quality ingredients! However, I wonder, how would I make these as crunchy as the store bought versions?
Please do a collab with SortedFood 😁 It'll be interesting to see you with a more "structured" food team and see another normal home cook with their team 😁
Barry, one problem with doing these directly onto a silicone mat is that it's *really* easy to accidentally cut through the latter with a sharp knife while cutting up the food. I sliced two gashes into one of my BL mats cutting up pizza that I'd made on it.
Golden Grahams is one of my favorite cereals still. Didn't have them when I was a kid sadly. Lots of cornflakes.. and I'm somewhat allergic to corn! Barry I enjoyed seeing you make, and try the cereal recipes today! Thank you!!!

What a great idea making your own cereal. I'd love to see you making your own cheerios but the thought of making those million little tiny donut holes is making me nervous.

Curious what the final cost per serving this works out to compared to buying the real versions of the cereals

@aarron grigg Because if it's 20p for store bought but 50p for home made, financially it does not make sense doing it yourself over buying.
