i did a week long “Life Experience Lesson” (earned field trip) in 5th grade and did this exact tour, visited Williamsburg, Bush (Busch? dont remember),Garden, Water Country, did the ghost walk, Jamestown, and much more, being from and growing up in los angeles i can definitely say that this trip made appreciate our history x10 fold. what an amazing and beautiful country we have, i wish to go back soon
Extremely old comment but, from a Virginian native, it's Busch. It's owned by Busch Beer, hence the name.
We visited Colonial Williamsburg 10 yrs ago in May and really enjoyed it. The gardens are also beautiful, and it was fun to eat in the old style pubs. One thing that we loved when we were there was a candlelight musical performance in one of the churches. We also visited everything on the Colonial Parkway.
Love Colonial Williamsburg. I have been there 10 times, and planning on going again in Oct. i don't go after Memorial day and summer due to the heat, but Spring and Fall are perfect for us. See new programs often and always come home with new things i learned. Take time for tea at the Williamsburg inn, it is so lovely there and a nice break. As a member, i visit the St. George Tucker house for members each day and see great programs there.
Awe, I grew up in Williamsburg... well Jamestown but it's all the same, I really miss it! amazing place to grow up:) I need to go back and visit soon!
I dont understand how he can say this is an easy day trip from DC! This is totally an overnight trip. 4 to 5 hours from DC plus time to explore requires a hotel room. I love this city and it deserves it's own travel review. Not just as a side trip from DC.
More like a day trip from Virginia Beach, Norfolk, or Richmond.
I live in Williamsburg (Not the colonial part) it feels weird seeing someone else talking about this area. I have a buddy who lives in Colonial Williamsburg, if you work there you can live in a colonial house.
I also live in Williamsburg. I live about two minutes away from DoG street.
I used to go down to Williamsburg from NY with my kids on Amtrak. Sooo easy and convenient. Been there 9x! With the historic area, Busch Gardens and Water Country, it makes a great vacation! P.S. I really don't like how they revamped the Lodge. We always stayed there. The lobby was a great space to relax, have a drink or play checkers. The remodel was a big mistake IMO.
as someone who was born and raised there I think you did a great job of covering the area. You could have mentioned there is a nice beach in Yorktown. It can get crowded but it is a great place to work on a tan or play in the water. Remember Virginia Beach isn't too far away .
I recommend the area during Christmas season!
I work there as one of the people that walk around in costume and I'm 12. I also work at Jamestown
+Jaiden Smith lucky you--you see living history every day
The Cheese Shoppe is the best!
Visited DC, Jamestown, Yorktown, Mt Vernon and Colonial Williamsburg last spring chaperoning my daughter's school trip. Didn't get to spend as much time at each place as I'd have liked (particularly Mt Vernon & Williamsburg). I'm taking my family on another trip to Colonial Williamsburg this spring. Looking forward to it. Love the AMC series TURN and seeing scenes shot in Colonial Williamsburg. The founding of our country is my favorite period in American history.
DO NOT come in the Summer unless you have to. I'm from the Richmond area. Summers are very hot and humid here. Spring and Fall are best. I will play devil's advocate and say Winter in W'burg is not terrible except for a few cold days. Way less crowded then. Christmas is very nice as well.
The idea of "just wait 15 minutes and the weather will change" is extremely true in this area. Oh, and don't forget the hurricanes, tornadoes, and severe weather we have during the summer time. It's best to visit here in September, and in the Fall. The winter time is brutally cold, and it is not a recommended time to come down here. The Spring is the start of the rainy season, so plan accordingly.
Williamsburg also has the second biggest Yankee Candle in the country as it’s the 2nd one to exist. It’s kinda cool has little food places inside it and really cool theming throughout the store
It closed like 2 years ago.
@@caseyalexander2244 Bruh what that’s tragic I moved away 3 years ago, guess it was probably a pretty expensive building to run
Marc mentions that Williamsburg can be pricey.. and it can. But the last time my daughter and I went... we were only going for a day and we took the less expensive pass (the sampler pack) which in 10/16 stands at $25.99 instead of $40.99 for the LARGE one-day package. It worked out for us. Check it out. Know that there are different levels of pricing. (Our last vacation, when the kids were younger and we spent a few days there... we took the LARGE packages. This time, with 2 adults, the smaller "sampler" was just fine.)
Great Video, i love Williamsburg! Greatings from Germany
Freedom Task Force Danke schoen!
Too many northern retirees live there now. Also, it's not possible to do a day trip from D.C. It's at least a 3 hour drive from there, plus some traffic. A day trip from D.C. to Richmond is even pushing it.
That’s what a day trip is.
Colonial Williamsburg is awesome! I was just in Richmond last weekend!
I love your videos. I haven't seen all of them and it amazes me when one pops up for a random spot like Williamsburg. This is great, but Williamsburg is a surprise considering all the exotic places you have visted!
I live in Virginia!
I went down there last year with my mother & sister. My mum got really lucky and landed us a friend's timeshare at the Historic Powhatan Resort, so we were practically up the street from the place. We had an amazing time, even on the day that it rained 4 times in one day. I've never been any place where rainwater steamed right off the streets just ten minutes after it stopped raining. And, yeah. It was HOT down there.
I'd still love to go again.
The Powhatan Resort is an awesome place.
Love this place. If you want a more scenic ride access rt. 5 off 295. This brings you in "the backdoor" to the city. You come in at James town and follow parkway to visitor center. Takes some research on this route. After eating at all the places in the little books you can buy, I find Cracker Barrel is the best. Not a lot for young kids. See the places you paid to see before hanging out in free ones. When in a building, do not get locked in on the host visually. Listen, but look around. These homes are full of the work of great craftsmen and decorators. I often find I spend a lot of time just studying the exterior of the buildings.
I only went to Busch Gardens, it was AMAZING! Definitely ride Verbolten. BEST RIDE EVER!
+Skylar Watson I had a good time there way back in the day. Will take the kids on the next visit
You should! ^^
I love living & selling real estate in Williamsburg Virginia!
Is ther a strip club ther?
Haha this feels weird because I live in Williamsburg
+RedSurprises and?
Well Williamsburg is a relatively small area and I was born and raised here. It just feels kinda weird about someone reviewing my hometown.
I was born and raised to!
+RedSurprises ...but your parents are from NY/NJ or DC/NOVA.
+Jaiden Smith Your parents are from NY/NJ?
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!!!
IgnacioAgramonte thank you!
Going in 3 weeks. Masks, hand sanitizer, water bottle. Doing research before going. We are staying at my cousins time share. We have an ancestor born in Williamsburg. Hoping there may be some record.
Great history lesson for the kids!
Hate: Don't come in July or August because it can be HOT HOT HOT
shelleyinthecity the heat... omg it was bad
How hot I live in Texas is it hotter there?
Miharu2020
If you like the hot weather in Texas, then you might not mind it.
Having grown up in Texas, and now live on the east coast. The heat in Williamsburg is not as bad as Texas. There is higher humidity, but lower high temperatures. Nights are cooler too.
its also insanely crowded
Note that nearby Busch Gardens is VERY expensive also!
Casey Vee hence why we have no pictures from inside as it was a bit too pricey for us :)
+woltersworld You didn't miss much. It has like five main roller coasters and that's about it. It has small recreated European venues, but they really aren't impressive at all...especially if you've been to Las Vegas.
saintgauden TRUE!! Last time I was there, they had a pretty good trained bird show, but that has been a while, don't know if they have it any longer. Basically, though, an overpriced ticket plus high priced parking did not justify going there.
+Casey Vee The amusement parks in Ohio are much better for the price. Of course, Busch Gardens bills itself as a theme park...like Disney World (but BG doesn't hold a candle to DW or DL).
I absolutely love williamsburg I like chewing on the licorice root !!!!
Fun fact: William & Mary students (such as myself) get to go to Colonial Williamsburg for free!
Don't forget about the Pottery Factory.
How long would be recommended if someone was wanting to go see Yorktown & colonial Williamsburg and Jamsetowne ? I thinking it's probably worth staying in williamsburg then doing a simple day trip from Washington DC
It's 3 hours from DC, and with traffic probably even more. No way it is a day trip, IMO. Definitely would need accommodations.
You can do Yorktown and Jamestown in the same day I suppose. Williamsburg is really a full two day deal.
I'm doing it this week. If you are able to walk with no problem, you could probably do it all in 4 days. I'm doing a week, with some recovery days built-in.
I did a week. But probably saw most of it in 4 days.
Having grown up in NC and always loved history and living history, I've never even heard of Colonial Williamsburg until I was notified of them selling out via CNN. If I had known in the past I would have definitely visited but there's zero advertising down here.
Echo Outdoors how can you have "always loved history" and never have heard of Colonial Williamsburg? This place was a MAJOR contributor to the birth of our nation, as many, if not most of our founding fathers lived, worked, or did business here. There's few places as influential in our history as Williamsburg.
Being so close in NC I'm surprised you never heard of CW.
How does a handicapped person see Williamsburg do they have mote scoters
Could you do Chile, especially the south, where al lakes and forest are.
benja condell I will get down there again one of these days, don't worry :)
thanks
Are you retired? And doing this as a hobbie? Or are all this travelling a full time job?
TheTraveler I do the traveling in my free time with my family. I wish I was retired...

Nice and energetic review but too many “cool” comments.
Poor people are unwelcome.

Tell us why.
