Suchi. I have passed my 12th grade and I am a NEET aspirant.
NEET UG
This year the NEET UG results have created a havoc and are a subject of immense concern for the Indian youths aspiring to be doctors and also for the Indian healthcare sector. Never in the history of medical entrance examinations has such hazard taken place. Here are some points of concerns :
In NEET UG 2024,
1. The result was declared 10 days prior to when it was expected to be declared. This has happened for the first time in so many years, given the fact this year even the number of aspirants were more. NTA claimed its efficiency has led to the prior release of results, however it's not digestible as the number of aspirants were more hence it makes sense if result declaration takes more time for accuracy.
2. Results were declared on the same day as election results declaration day which creates more suspicion as the news that was in limelight was election. No big mainstream media initiated the NEET results discussion which made aspirants furious.
3. The cutoff usually varies within a range of 10 , but the cutoff reached as high as 650 which is roughly 30 marks more as compared to last year. Last year aspirants scoring 610 (general category) were able to secure a decent medical government seat. But this year aspirants scoring 630,650,660,670,680 are in scared as they might not get a seat in any medical colleges. Why has the cutoff risen so much when the number of government seats have not increase as significantly.
4. NTA has denied all the accusations of using unfair means of conduct meanwhile the Patna police already filed an FIR of paper leak issue on 5 May 2024.
5. 67 students have scored a perfect score, 720/720 which is the first time in the Indian history of medical undergraduate examination. Yet, NTA doesn't question itself. Every year aspirant numbers increase, yet only 1 or 2 bag a perfect score. How can the numbers rise so much exponentially? Aspirants do not demand a re examination but a strong independent body investigation into this matter and clarify that everything has been done fairly as it seems malpractices have been done.
6. Allegations of unfair means become stronger as the list of toppers released by NTA has, 8 students roll numbers are in series who have bagged a perfect score, however 7 of them have not mentioned their surnames, and all belong to the same centre of examination in Haryana except 2 who are from Delhi and Rajasthan.
7. Some students have also scored 718 , and 719 . This is the first time in the history of medical examinations. When suspicion arose an NTA was questioned it just showed us a rule. This rule was not mentioned in the pdf issued by NTA where the rules of the examination were written. Even if it was a policy devised under conditions of emergency, NTA has not clarified transparently that how many marks have been awarded and on basis of what they have been given grace marks. They said they did it after seeing CCTV recordings, however again dodged the allegation and lacked any transparency, and has been ignoring this issue. How do we know how much grace marks were the students given. However, grace marking should not even be a concept as it completely devastates the purpose of competitive exam like NEET UG where the aspirants are judged on basis of speed, accuracy, time management and changing strategies as per the situation demands. And this particular issue can be resolved by training the invigilators about correct timings, correct methods to be followed by the invigilators as well as students in the examination hall.
Sir, it's a very severe matter to be concerned about since it is about the healthcare sector of India. What should students do to become doctors? People getting 600 don't get a medical seat whereas someone getting 400 gets one? What should the youth do, crush their dreams and never aspire to become doctors? What about the innocent lives who gave up their lives because of high pressure and discrepancies? What if what happened this year happens next year and the upcoming years? Should honest, hardworking,diligent students not aspire to become a help to the healthcare sector?Or will the students not capable but has opted other means be taken into medical healthcare sector?
There are not enough government medical seats to bring up qualitative aspirants to become doctors one day. Why conduct an exam if it's already decided who is getting who is going to go into the colleges. Sir, you have immensely developed India, please show some light in the field of education also. Sir, we beg you to take this matter as one of your priorities.
