thanks for the tutorial. I am attending weekly french lesson, my french teacher didn't tell us about words that ends with 'ion' or 'on' are feminine. Glad that you said it here!
Hi and thanks for your contribution to the francophone world. I am American and I have been studying French for several decades now. I would like to offer a suggestion for memorizing the gender of nouns. I have frequently encountered the recommendation that one should learn a noun by remembering not only the word but also its definite article. While this works for the majority of words it fails when the word begins with a vowel or a silent h, i.e., when the definite article resolves to l'. My solution which I wish to suggest is to memorize the word with either 'un' or 'une'. This works all the time.

I think it's maybe because it's such a tricky and complex language if you try to master it, that it's very interesting and make you think more, when you need to teach it. but it's not impossible, nor too easy ! :)

Really loved the way you teach French. I have been using an app to learn this lovely language but it is teaching me just the words and their pronunciation only. I couldn't understand the basic terminologies untill I watched your videos. I have barely watched your 3-4 videos and it has taught me more in concept of language than I learnt from that app. I am hopeful that I will be speaking French well like a native French speaker soon.

I was taught a method of associating a noun's gender. With French starting just 10 days ago, I associate each noun I learn. I never forget the gender. Ever. 100% on every quiz (using Duolingo for French...great program for learning from scratch).
...75% of French nouns ending in 'e' are feminine. There's still a LOT that are masculine. (In German, 90% ending in 'e' are feminine...die)
But anyway, I thought I'd share. You use two characters (Superman for masc. nouns, Queen Elizabeth for fem. nouns). Picture an image in your mind of the noun using one of the two characters. (or make up 2 characters you'd prefer - but Superman and Queen are very powerful)
Your mind never forgets an associated imagery! I was skeptical until it worked for me every time!
La maison (I learned le jardin...the garden... as I pictured Superman swooping in and with astonishing speed cleaning up the garden, no more weeds, leaves cleared, etc. I also pictured the Queen watching from inside her house waving in delight)
I picture Superman flying above a train as it's heading into the train station. Le train. In the train station, Queen Elizabeth is waiting in line and waving to Superman. La gare.
Superman is flying next to a plane (visualize as I'm seeing him through the plane window). L'avion (Un avion). As the plane lands in the airport, Superman is swooping in beside it. L'aeroport is masc. As he is flying in beside the plane in the airport, Superman flashes in his hand his passport which the control tower sees with their binoculars. Le passeport. Then Superman flicks his fingers and now also shows his plane ticket (billet d'avion is masc.)
So, believe me when I say. Visualize an image in your mind and....you just never forget it! It's how our mind works.
One more quick example. Voiture (car). Masc. or fem? It is feminine. La voiture. I picture Queen Elizabeth in the back seat of a small compact car with her chauffeur driving her (a silly image). (She has a banana, a watermelon slice, and leaves stuck in her crown...all 3 are feminine)
Sounds a bit out there, I know. But utilizing this technique will help you memorize the gender of every noun you learn. And again, 75% of nouns ending in 'e' means there are 25% of exceptions. That's a lot of nouns! It is a good approach, but by no means full proof. So when a noun gives you trouble remembering, put Superman or the Queen to work! LOL
