I just bought the mahogany version of this today at my local music store. I didn't plan to buy anything but this guitar sold me with its beautiful tone and playability. I spent an hour playing it there and couldn't put it down. It's also a great price right now. I've never owned an acoustic this nice and feel it'll serve me well for many years to come. I can't play it as well as you but I feel like I sound better and am able to be more creative with it. Excellent playing and great video. Thanks.
Hey thank you for the input I have to order one also I'm glad you're happy with it it must be true it must be very nice happy holiday to you my friend enjoy it 💕
I am not gonna talk about martin. I wanna say your playing is amazing. It got into my heart ❤ I can fill it every note. You're awesome. I ordered dx2e burst yesterday. Kinda excited to arrive
I may have close to 20 acoustic guitars, Taylors, Martins, some real high-end models, but the X-series always impresses me. The models with a real wood top and HPL B/S are better than the HPL tops, but both sound so nice and balanced. Hard to believe how good they sound and play for the $$, but I've demo'd all of them so many times and recommend them for beginners and pros alike. You get a lot of sound for the money and don't have to worry when you toss it in a gig bag into the back of the car.
I do think many won't like because of hpl, I have a 2013 Martin dcpa 5 hpl and honestly it has a nice tone, thanks for your upload Jon and nice playing as always
Hey Jon, Love your videos, Bought a Takamine GD 93 Ce based on your video´s and couldn't be friends with it due to my larger hands.. But then I tested this Martin at the local guitar shop and man was I impressed! Returned the GD 93 and am super happy with my new Martin. Lessons learned: Try it locally and make sure it's comfortable to your hands..
It looks beautiful but best of all you play it beautifully. I have ordered one and I'm eager to receive it soon, Martin made all the right improvements on this version while still keeping the price affordable.
Once again i’m stunned by your touch and feeling when you play. You really sell these instruments in an honest and professional way. Great stuff 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🎶
Aside from the extremely tasteful playing here, the guitar has that really good martin dreadnaught bass as well as that scooped mid range sound and this highs are perfect for the amount of bass and mids. And the electronics sound really good as well, very realistic.
Thank you Jonathan for another wonderful Martin guitar review. This guitar sounds very good and your playing is superb. I would love for you to see if City Music would have a Martin O-X1E for you to do a demo of for us. It is the smallest Martin body and I think it just might have a place due to a unique sound. Your skills would make this the best video on RUclips for that guitar. Thanks again for all you share with us. Stay safe and well my friend.
Me too! Actually, I put this one at the top of my list, thinking of going to buy it, before seeing this video, as this is the best demo vid of playing it, that I've seen, and it helped convince me to put this guitar, at the top of my list to buy, and to buy it this week. You can hear all the tones, of the notes, on the strings clearly, and see that it's a fine instrument, and now, I know, for sure, that it's the one I want! Going to order it, now, this week. Jonathon K's demo is perfect, with really nice guitar playing, too, and a beautiful composition, but it highlights what a buyer wants to see, to know this guitar. High, mid and low ranges are covered, and strumming, and picking, etc., all clearly highlighted. I play it over and over, to notice how this guitar sounds. Great work!
Nice playing! And great video, very informative and useful. I'm completely in love with this guitar but I'm debating wether I should buy this or de DX1 series. Have you tried both and do you know the main differences? Do you think it is worth the $100 price increase from the DX1 to the DX2??
Hi sir, I know the guitar have a great sound and quality, but my question is other thing. What is the model of your mic? Thanks, God bless you dear friend
I have two Dx2e and a D13e. The D 13e seems to be well balanced through the pickup and the high E string rings loud when soloing over a looped Bass line. The Dx2e is fine when strumming but the treble E string is a bit subdued when soloing through the pick up. Though it can be heard I like a bit more oomph for impact. I loop a bass line on the Low E string and then solo over. I find that I have to turn up the volume a Quarter turn to be heard adequately, and then it speaks to me. Strangely though, both the Dx2 and the D13e have an MRT pickup, so i wouldn't expect a difference. Any comments?
I’m 16 and buying the Martin D-x2e, I have an epiphone and want a upgrade I do not know much about guitars but I was told this is good choice how will it age? And any other advice is great!
Totally agree, all-solid, American-made Martin would be pleasure playing and good investment, too, as it opens up soundwise over time. This particular Martin is good for campfire occasions, though, so you won't have to sweat over your precious expensive one. Looks good, too. Thanks for the review and beautiful playing!
Your opinion is reasonable, and well thought out. Gets a rec/like from me! There are different ways to approach this, different options. Save up for one exquisite model, a fine choice, or spend lower and get several different guitar sound options, with different tones that you can play.
Jonathan Koh thanks for your reply sir.. already bought one for me yesterday.. initially the string height was too high so had to take it down a lil bit.. sounds great..
Thanks for the review Jonathan, your playing is wonderful. Is this series at the affordable end of the Martin range? It does get you the Martin name but are they being embarrassed by the super value offerings such as those from Harley Benton? As an ordinary learner guitarist starting out I think I would get more guitar for less money from the HB range. I can understand a pro player wanting the cachet of the Martin name though.
No, HB is nothing. Where did you get this misinfo disinfo?? Martin workmanship is top end. Taylor also, which is owned by Martin. Guild is tops too, owned by Fender. HB is low end, by all experienced players, sellers, and luthiers. Harley Davidson? They make motorcycles, not guitars, lol... You must be employed by HB?
Hello from Louisiana Johnson I love everything you do that's why I call you magic fingers you can put me to sleep with some of your lead solos I love it keep doing it baby
Nice video Jon, and nice guitar but your 'soul' comes through on any guitar you play, and in my humble opinion that's what we hear on your videos regardless what guitar you are playing.
Congratulations for your videos... But what a mess!! I watched your video about Harley Benton CLD-41SE WN and ordered one that is still on the way... But I have just discovered this review... Money is half in HB, but if money is not a problem... Which one would you buy? I have enough time to change my choice... 😁 Does lower Martin worth it over top Harley Benton? Thank you very much for your opinion
Could hear something off? Hpl,not my cup of tea.nice playing, but so many quality guitars out there, that are all: either solid wood guitars, or solid tops with great quality laminated back and side's, of same or different woods, don't get sucked in by the Martin thing, they aren't the same as they used to be.
That guitar sounds surprisingly well. The front looks good too but the sides and back aren't my cup of tea. They look like vinyl imao. Sure, it is a Martin and quite affordable but this one is not for me. I miss the mellow warmness of a solid wood guitar that makes Martin legend. As always i enjoyed your playing - thanks for showing this and stay well ☮️
Luxe solid guitars are not necessary, when you can get this amazing sound to work, the sound of the top is the 95 per cent and with the time it has more balance, body too, to buy a 2000 eur a guitar it is a mental ilness.
Snobs will be snobs. Nothing wrong with buying an expensive, all wood, name brand guitar, for thousands, if you can afford it. But some people will only hang it, on their silly walls, and they'll never even play it, lol!! But they will brag, online, about how great it is, and how much better than an HPL lower end guitar. They are a JOKE! I respect real, practicing, pro musicians' opinions, who have a diversity of guitars, or just one that they love, whose opinions are informed. Not weird snobs, who want to bash all things under $3000, all wood, LOL!! I will buy this model, as the sound really catches me. Been planning for it, for months, but it went out of stock, so, now that it's back in stock, I'll grab one! It has a terrific balance in tone. I am not a snob, nor a fool. I know enough about sound, tonewoods, and how to play, etc, to know a good guitar. I don't need to bankrupt my finances, just to brag that I bought a $4000 Martin that might never even get played. I play every day, and it will be this one, along with my other ones. An all wood guitar is great, but usually pricey, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with an HPL Macassar Ebony guitar, like this one. The HPL is a combo of the wood and glue, and some belligeret online idiot said it wasn't wood, that's bull hockey. It may not be ALL WOOD, but it has wood, and is mostly wood. If anyone doesn't like that, fine, go ahead, and buy only $$$ of wood, and let us less prosperous folks, have our HPL affordable guitars, which we'll play daily, and enjoy fully, and won't just hang it on our pretentious walls (I am against doing that, as I think it destroys the necks, hanging guitars.) I already have 2 Guilds, with that same, as this model here, Ebony HPL (yes, it's mostly wood, it's ALL WOOD, fused with some glue & synthetic GOO, so what) design, that I LOVE. I'll add this guitar, too. The Ebony Macassar HPL Guilds I own (a 6, and 12 string, each) are all each sweet in tone, not dark, and vibrant, and loud and clear. They sound a bit different from this Martin, but are very good. I have one Mahogany Fender (acoustic), 12 string, and will add more mahogany acoustic guitars, as I love the Mahogany sound, it is great, and has a long tradition in guitar making. I got some $$, from a house sale, so I'm able to do this, for the only chance in my lifetime, so far, and it's a great investment, as they will last all my life, and can last beyond your lifespan! No problems, just the pleasures of making music. And, if I find I bought too many, I can resell those I don't play, because with a good brand name, like Guild or Martin, or Gibson, etc., you don't lose much value, in a resale.
Hi, nice Sound like all Martin but too much Money for me i habe ordered 2 Bonenuts for my Harley Benton 120 CE and CST24T and 2 Rollerstringtrees for my Stratand hope it helps. LG Detlev
excellent tone and great loudness...but the one i bought, the string height is too high and cant take it down much or else its buzzing..and as i stay in Inida, so no authentic Martin repair person i can find here... ALAS...!!!
Just find any guitar repair person, experienced, to do a simple neck adjustment. Doesn't have to be a Martin repair person. Should be a simple repair that will solve it, easily, forever. If you can't find someone local, try someone in "guitar set up," and repair, in your nearest larger city. It's really just a "set up adjustment", and shouldn't cost more than $60-120 in American dollars. This is a routine neck adjustment, for any guitar set up expert, in any city, in the world. Not hard to do, but us beginners at the task shouldn't even try it! Tell the guitar tech person to "make the action very low, but not where the strings buzz." That will be a perfect repair!

Nope, that’s not the one for you. Did you ever get started on that love song? 😉
