A little more than a week ago I ordered an Martin D-X2E from Sweetwater and received it on Wednesday of last week. No regrets. Maybe I'm not as rich as some of the folks here, but it's the best sounding acoustic guitar I own. This past weekend I plugged it in to my Behringer HA-20R amp and I was blown away how good this guitar sounded.

I was in the Guitar Center in Las Vegas and checked the Martin D-1XE. Man was impressed. Such a nice tone that you wouldn't expect from a laminate guitar and the $549 price tag is great. I think I would probably spend $100 more and get the spruce top. Now I want one of these guitars.

Quinton, the refrain you were playing was wonderful, and $ 779 for a guitar you get something you can take along at the campfire and so on...But it will never be a CEO-7 and the price illustrate it nicely. Thanks for the efforts, both of you :)

Even the all HPL sounds amazing. I really the HPL has a really good sound. My DX1RAE is an incredible guitar for what I paid for it. It has a Morato fingerboard and bridge. My guitar was made in 2014 and Martin had told me after I got the guitar that there was a shortage of Richlite at the time. I have had the guitar since 2016 when I got it as an open box from Musicians Friend. Glad I got this particular one.

The Martin X series really impressed me. I have been in the market for a new acoustic and wanted to really pay less than a grand. If I had to go over and love the guitar I would do so. There are so many reviews out there on the inspired by Gibson line Epiphones, The New G- series Gibsons, The Epiphone masterbilts, The Taylors, and Martins. I didn't know about the Martin X series at all, I didn't think a Martin would be even below my budget. It turns out that the store I went to was out of everything I was looking into lol. At that point, I just went a different route and Just played some guitars off the wall. I started out with Taylors from $799 to $1399, Epiphone Texan, a Gibson G series songwriter. My favorite out of the bunch was the Gibson. I really didn't want to spend $1599 though, it was very good but I didn't fall in love with it. Then I noticed a Martin DCX2E on the wall, $699?? I said at first I will try it out, thinking it would sound like a piece of cheese lol. Well, It didn't lol. I was in shock with the first G chord, it rang with sustain and yes, I fell in love with it. Was it as good as the Gibson? in certain ways better as far as cleaner in sound. The Gibson had a slightly better bottom and playing neck but at more than twice the price? No.
I went home with the Martin and am so glad that I did. It just goes to show, You have to really play them to decide what works out best for you.

I did pretty much all that yesterday. My intention was to get a mid priced martin. Like you played loads and like you spied this x series, a pre owned example. Might as well try it, I thought, though its a bit cheap haha.
Glad I did. It sounded the best to me and felt just right...for me. The last time this happened was 20 years ago with a blueridge, after trying everything in the shop. At that time they were unknown. Just sounded beautiful. My daughter has it now.
Looking forward to getting to know this one. Plus I've never had a pick up on an acoustic before.

I have the original. And I love it. I don’t particularly like how they chose to replace it with a HPL top. Don’t see the point personally seems just to cut cost. I’d go with the newer dx2e will get better with age with the solid top. I mean $600 isn’t a super cheap guitar. Cmon Martin I love the hpl back and sides but atleast keep the solid top on all models.

You actually are getting wood in hpl construction from higher end companies like Martin. They very thinly layer koa or the mahogany ex.. in layers of HPL so it's not solid but it's not straight HPL either. It's layers of fine paper thin wood between HPL . It still helps produce a nice sound. I have seen this process done before. Ive worked in CNC for awhile so you find out a lot about manufacturing on the job.

Today at Guitar Center I was surprised to enjoy this. I expected with it being made of Medium Density Fiber board to sound dull. This was the brightest and loudest guitar in the acoustic room. I went to try a Gibson Generation guitar but Guitar Center didn't have any. The string spacing on this guitar is wide, this has a tall fretboard. Also thick, something full in your chord hand. I liked everything about it except that you'll be changing out 9 volt batteries when playing acoustic electric as opposed to LR Baggs wiring. Liked it a lot though. Nice weight, Martin Logos engraved on the headstock, I didn't mind the finish in person, looked i-aight. Wide neck, lots of volume

Wow - the DX2E is really more impressive than I thought. I'm glad Martin listened to complaints about that crap Richlite junk they were using on fretboards and bridges. Of course, I'm sure some of the higher priced all-wood guitars are still using them, but I hope they shied away from that. Nice to see these have actual wood fretboards and bridges. It's crazy that Taylor uses all ebony for bridges and fingerboards on all their instruments, yet Martin has to keep ducking the buck. The real wood is still nice to see though, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of those guitars to people beginning guitar or intermediate.

they still use richlite on all the road series and guitars that cost up to 2 grand lol. The reason why the DX2E is using Katalox, a Mexican Hardwood is because they are following the tradition making one guitar for all people that sounds just as good if not better then guitars that cost thousands. Following in tradition of the D1 and original DX1. Mexicans probably have some pride in making that one.

Calling HPL "laminate" should be forbidden, because it's confusing. It's not the usual laminate wood that you get to see in so many guitars. There's ZERO wood in HPL, only layers of kraft paper glued together under high pressure. Yes, it's a formica guitar. It has no soul, very low projection, and humidity related problems are frequent: HPL is very hard and will not react to humidity changes...but the solid wood top will ---> unsolvable fret buzz issues, and a lot of tops will even crack.
Get an all-wood guitar, even if it's not an all-solid wood guitar. It will always be better and more lively than these expensive pseudo Martins.

    • @kennybluet5527

Interesting point about solid top on HPL back and sides. I guess the expansion and contraction of the top could be a problem if the back and sides don't sync. Thanks for pointing that out . I disagree about these guitars having no soul. I've got a DX1AE and I love it. I'm a tone freak and mine sounds great. Especially when it's plugged in. Thanks for the input.

Martin HPL Guitars are practically 25$ plastic toys for the price of a good real guitar. Comparing to real guitars they don't really sound great, and ya it's because its practically plastic and overpriced, which kinda harms the brand. Once seeing Martin on a guitar, you knew that was a great high quality craftsmanship guitar. Well not anymore.

For heavens sake why buy these when you can get a handbuilt solid wood Faith Guitar which is infinitely superior

    • @sauravgupta7415

Because Martin's know how to brace a guitar and transform into $1000 instrument with artificial materials.
Faith guitars are only superior in technical details but sound like toy due to bad construction and bracing.

@@sauravgupta7415 I've owned a Gibson J 200 a J 15 and I have a Martin 000-15M so I reckon I am qualified to say my Faith guitars more than hold their own . The HPL martins are OK if you have to have the name on the headstock, but they are only average IMO.

It should be a simple presentation but you made if confusing. You should have a basic script and do it in an organized fashion. Do one type of guitar at a time. Also, the audio of the guitar was terrible and harsh. You can do much better than this.

No real wood backwards no real acoustic sound.

I have an all HPL Matin OM series guitar which is my favorite acoustic. It just feels so durable and once set up plays so easy. And the Stratabond necks are very strong. I only changed the strings to Elixirs to brighten the sound a little. And the finish is so easy to clean.
