Came here from a Devin Jovey video where you made a comment about using his 9 shot sequence. I wanted to see if you’d actually been able to apply it in a car audio video. I was an installer from way back, 89-95 and I’ve done sound deadening on 1,000 cars. But I just watched a 13 minute video about sound deadening in its entirety and my daily has the factory radio in it for podcasts etc. I watched this whole video because you are a natural storyteller and your editing is just great. This was a really entertaining video. Seems like you are putting in a ton of time and effort and I’m surprised you don’t have like 50k subs. But keep at it and I bet you will. Off to binge watch your other stuff!
I remember that one! (And thanks for reminding me that I need to actually put those lessons into practice!) And maaaaan! That's so amazing! I'm really happy to know the content could hold your attention, even being someone with exponentially more experience than me. I really appreciate the positive words and the encouragement man. These kinda comments are super motivating, and really help validate all the work I put into these. Thanks for checking out my stuff man!
ThaTank is a solid anachoic chamber on wheels! ! ! Killer edit!! 😄 a 20 year sound deadening job in just 10-15 minutes. You better take notes people 😄. Audio Gurus, and Senseis...keep going!! Layers... and fabric, and stuffing. Noise reduction and audio gainz ✊ !
i just finished sound deadening my XB. the best tools besides the roller was the trim tool and a Sharpie marker. the Sharpie was VITAL in all the hard to reach spots. I used Siless 120 mil deadener and siless hybrid, I went full overboard and the results were GREAT
People don’t know bout the trim tools and the sharpie! That’s how you know you really in the sound deadening trenches lol. I haven’t used the 120 OR the hybrid, but they seem really nice
Thanks man I really appreciate that feedback! We just getting started! And yea it's all part of the game, sometimes you get unexpectedly great results, and sometimes you just learn what NOT to do in the future lol. Thanks for watching!
I need to do this for my commuter. I can hear every rock in the road. I hate it so much I was searching for quiet used car models to buy to replace it. I don't care about mpg; I need low dB
I support that 1000%! My car also needed it badly from the factory. It was noisy and vibrating before I even added the sub! It ends up being a bit of work getting access to all the parts you need to hit, but I think the results are MORE than worth it long term
@@DaBadNewz I’m running Infinity 6x8 door speakers, 4” Sony front speakers to replace the air con vents, rear 6x9 Sonys in the rear parcel tray, 12” alpine sub in a custom box, 3 JVC amps and a dual battery setup. With a PS4 and monitor mounted to the roof. Just sound deadened the doors, roof and trunk. Got to do the floor now.. but it slaps
With the silver foil sound deadening stuff, can you paint it flat black? I have that stuff in my track car with no interior and I'd like to cover it with something to make it black (no carpet). Would that foam stuff be okay to step on or is it meant to only go under the carpet?
My homie Victor has actually painted some of his flat black! tbh I don't really think it's exactly the best for it (prone to cracking since the foil and butyl is still soft), but honestly not really that bad if it's out of the way. He pained the deadening on his a pillars and roof and it seems to be holding up pretty well (and that was without prep). They DO have some black stuff, but if you already have it installed that's not of much use. As far as walking on the foam, it's definitely not ideal...It will get "rashes" pretty easily. Even with the roller, if you happen to go a little sideways and not in the direction of the roll, it will leave some noticeable gashes in the foam. For something like a track car, it might not be too bad since it's not getting that daily wear and tear
@DaBadNewz do you know if they make any stick on material that's supposed to go on top of the foil sound deadening stuff? Like a really dense carpet? I'm not a car audio guy so I'm not too familiar with the products available these days like that black variety of sound deadening
tbh I'm not aware of any carpet type products, but there are various thicknesses and densities of foam and MLV (mass loaded vinyl) that usually go on top of deadening. But with stuff like the MLV, you're gonna very quickly get away from track car benefits (MLV is notoriously heavy). Sorry man! I'll definitely keep my eyes out for something like that
Spray foam works really good for one thing: filling in big air gaps (like INSIDE the actual metal of the frame/body), but be careful because it can get real messy!
@DaBadNewz you make interesting videos don't go deep into details of the making but you make your videos very interesting best of luck with your channel man 👍
I appreciate that feedback! I usually try for a little more detail than this one, but since we covered a lot, I didn’t wanna make the video 20+ minutes. Thanks again man!
Awesome video and good work i think it looks good i just recently went crazy with the sound deadening and added 120 square feet to the entire trunk and under the back seat the rest of the car is to come soon i want it completely covered for the best possible output and i have looked at that closed cell foam before I didn't realize it was peel and stick and does it make a noticeable difference with the deadening material if so I will put a layer throughout the car i am probably going to need a roof brace as well this current build will be around 8k but to be honest if im not floating towels im not going to be happy im trying to move some air with the cleanest mids and highs possible I want the same thing your home boy wants a stadium concert in wheels with enough bass to take home the trophy 🏆
I definitely feel that! I think we all want that rolling concert! And yea man I think the closed cell foam makes a difference, although it's not quite as noticeable as the deadening, since the foam is used to fight road noise and the higher frequencies. We did the foam and the deadening together so it made it kinda easy cuz we already had everything taken apart. And yea with 8k you might want some bracing or even a wood roof. I think that's gonna be my next step for my roof (but not for a while)
@@DaBadNewz yeah I want to do a wood roof with a layer of deadening material on top with a Y brace running from the transmission hump in the center back floor running to the roof at the front end and back end might be overkill but I want to get the best possible performance out of it you already know what I am talking about you have these guys with a bunch of money throw a big system in the car and don't do anything as far as deadening, bracing etc and it sounds like a tin can getting ready to take flight I definitely don't want that when people listen to my shit I want to hear one thing and one thing only ( damn bro that sounds good) I am waiting for the enclosure to arrive from down 4 sound and I'm going to get some Jim's machine works braces and put one inside the box and another going from the top of the box to the bottom of the rear deck to attempt to keep the rattle to a minimum and the wind force at its peak and next year after I have hit some shows and learned some things I'm going to order a second TYRANT 15 and build in the back seat area and double the SCIB bank going for the 150 this year and 155 next year lol 😂 the endless pursuit to get louder
damn you already got the whole plan mapped out too! I'm over here piecing mine together as I go...seems like it would be smarter to take your approach. But yea with that bracing, you should be able to stiffen up the car enough to basically eliminate any rattles. I think I need to brace the inside of my box a lil better...when I hit the LOW lows I can see the box flex just a tiny bit. We gonna get there!
@@DaBadNewz honestly every single thing I'm doing is stuff I learned from watching RUclips videos I have at least 2 dozen different playlists with different parts of the build in each playlist doing it one sections at a time so far it's working great and I'm seeing positive results
@derrickchoate8298 hey man honestly, that’s the best way! I basically did the same thing with doing the research for the next step or 2. But I’m always trying to learn better techniques (or what to avoid)
Very good work bud. As REAR VIEW MIRRORS go... they rattle in yer FACE... so... SPRAY FOAM. Pull the mirror, drill some access holes in the plastic and filler UP with spray foam... Eliminates any RATTLE inside the MIRROR... once remounted ya can wrap a HAIR TIE around the BASE to stop that rattle and a RUBBER BUSHING between the mirror MOUNT and the WINDOW seals the DEAL... NO MORE rattle in yer FACE no matter the BASS.... Keep up the GOOD WORK...Da BAD NEWS. I swapped out my FRONT SPEAKERS in my Kia thanks to YOUR video on them... PROPS from the OLD GUY.... BDBD/2024
His actually doesn’t rattle all that bad, it just slowly looks down lol. But that definitely seems like a good tip for going the extra mile! And thanks man! I really appreciate feedback like that, and I hope those new speakers do you right!
Not on the inside, but I’ve seen boxes online that were wrapped on the outside. If you put it inside it’s gonna eat some of your airspace (not much obviously, but it wont do that at all on the outside). If you do it, definitely let me know how it turns out! That would be an interesting experiment.
i've seen people use different kinds of foam in subwoofer enclosures (usually wavy foam "eggcrate foam". I know people use foam behind mid bass and midrange speakers to absorb the back waves to keep all the acoustic energy from being lost within door panels and what not. I imagine it's the same idea in a subwoofer enclosure but i'm not entirely sure
@AndruKalAndru yea definitely true, I think people mostly use Polyfil for that. Much different than closed cell foam we added on top of the deadening, (the “looser” foam is better for helping the bass do it’s thing). That’s the only real additive material I’ve seen IN a sub box (other than epoxy for rigidity and smoothness), but there’s always room for trying new shit and just seeing what works! Thanks for your insight!

Focus on flat surfaces. The bends arent going to vibrate as its much stiffer/stronger.
Yea we know, this is overkill on purpose (and not even a portion of just how overkill he has gone over the years!
