Have you read The Book of Doors? It came out around the same time as City of Stardust but got buried by City of Stardust’s hype, but it’s SO good. Reminded me of the experience of reading Ink Blood Sister Scribe.
I enjoy every video of yours. ❤ I'm happy you're enjoying hindu mythology retellings. You should try Palace of illusion and forest of enchantment by chitra Banerjee divakaruni.
Godness of the River one of my favorite books and the cover is beautiful and absolutely stunning and wonderful written 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️❤️💙💙❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸❤️❤️💙💙💙💙💙❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸💙📙📙📖📖📖📖📖📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📙📙📖📖📙📙📖📖📙📙📖
Can anyone clarify what book she mentions in the City of Stardust section? Is it the Wolf and War of Yarrew? I can't quite understand it and I don't know if the captions are correct.
With Goddess of the River, the second half is the more reimagined part of the novel. Ganga isn't around during the wars in the second half, so it makes sense that it may feel different.
I have The City of Stardust and still plan on reading it to see what I think of it. Georgia Summers does have a new book coming out this year (forget when exactly) called The Bookshop Below.. I shall be reading that one too!
I am always impressed when authors can write a compelling story in a shorter format. While 1000 page tomes and 10 book series have its merits, I find often find then exhausting
What would you consider a book like Carson of Venus which is 146 pages? Or any of Edgar Rice Burroughs books? Or maybe limitations have changed since then?
Erin Morgenstern is one where I feel you’re just along for the ride. You’re the audience and you’re being drawn this story and also inadvertently being pulling into it.
I got to read an ARC for Fireborne Blade and I thought it was a really fun and unique take on a lot of the classic dragon fantasy tropes. The only thing that brought my rating down to a 4 was that I did think it was a bit too short although I rarely read books under 600 pages so it might be a me problem 😅
The only issue I have for the fireborne blade is the price. I don't have access to a library and the digital version is almost as expensive as ninth house. 🤔
When you say that 3.77 is on the lower end, why do you feel that? I mean, I don't usually look at rating from platforms like good reads, but as I understand 3 stars is a good book, 4 is real good and 5 would be like an all time favourite. To me a 3.77 looks like a very good rating... it i s almost 4 stars
Yeah but compared to trashy books that have ridiculously high ratings (4.5+) I can see why she says it. The thing is Goodreads isn’t for quality but popularity
From what I’ve noticed (which is of course more anecdotal) adult fantasy works tend to be higher as a genre than a lot of others, and things below 3.80 can turn people away. Not always, but speaking very generally. And in reference to the other reply, there are a lot of books, especially within certain subgenres of fantasy, that skew incredibly high (Fourth Wing, ACOTAR, From Blood and Ash) so I wouldn’t want someone to see those books with over 4.0 ratings and think that 3.77 isn’t worth giving a try.
I think it's a good thing to point out that people can be tired of European and American retellings, but it is a symptom of racism in colonialism to "be done with retellings" by the time other cultures get invited to the table and are able to start getting their stories published. Love the spotlight on Goddess of the River and I can't wait to give it a read!
@@_dayliqht as @tali5065 said, I follow Hinduism and grew up with the story of Mahabharata. And given that those are religious texts for us, any diversion will end up making me feel uncomfortable.
Grace of kings is basically Chinese history though ripped off through and through. I don’t know Indian mythology but goddess of river seems super creative unlike that one
Just curious (not trying to make you defend your point, just genuinely wondering!) what makes something a ripoff of history vs alternate history/that time in history is the inspiration and setting?
@@ebnovels for me the amount of creativity the artist takes or effort to include their own twists and change things. But also maybe some Indian readers think this about Patel’s works idk. In general I don’t like retellings of anything tho. My hot take is theyre basically fanfiction that got published
This is how I felt! It gave me Golden Compass vibes in part 1, but then? City of Navel-Gazing. And for the cool premise, the almost zero world-building drove me crazy. Sigh.

For those tired of Greek and Roman mythology, Hindu mythology is a goldmine of stories!!
Asian mythology is honestly my favorite!
We just got the Fireborne Blade at my library and now I’m super excited to start it!

"I loved it."
🐶 WOOF 🐶
"Luna loved it too." 💀
Immediately added Goddess of the River to my tbr. Cannot wait to finish my current read so I can delve into it. Hey Luna 🐕!!!
Haha, Lisa Frank, caught that one. 😂👍
The dragon book sounds so interesting! Adding to tbr. Here’s hoping my library has an audio version

Adding the fireborne blade to my immediate tbr bc the reading slump has got me 🙈
Oh boy, I’m sorry! Hopefully this one will help-it’s short, at least 😆
Can anyone clarify what book she mentions in the City of Stardust section? Is it the Wolf and War of Yarrew? I can't quite understand it and I don't know if the captions are correct.
It's The Wolf of Oren-Yaro by K.S. Villoso
Based on what you mentioned in multiple videos, I think you will enjoy the Dragon Age games. They are older so you might have already played them.
I’ve only played them a bit! They’re definitely games I missed out on 😅
With Goddess of the River, the second half is the more reimagined part of the novel. Ganga isn't around during the wars in the second half, so it makes sense that it may feel different.
I also agree with the two books idea. It would have been fun to have a longer first half of the book actually.
I have The City of Stardust and still plan on reading it to see what I think of it.

It's not coming out until next year lol

Picked up The Fireborne Blade at my library but ran out of time. Will have to get it again and prioritize it.
Ah, I’ve been there before! Hopefully you enjoy it if you pick it up soon 😄
I really enjoyed the Firebourne Blade and am looking forward to the 2nd installment!
Yay! I’m glad you also liked it 😄

You need to try Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky!
I heard "Elden Ring", paused the video and immediately bought the ebook 😅

Ah, I hope it lives up to its description :D
You can also read sons of darkness. because the source material for both these books are the same.
I’ve only heard a little here and there about Sons of Darkness, so that’s good to know!
theres a sequel dropping called Dance of shadows in '25
