🔒 Key Takeaway: Worried about tampering? Don’t be. It’s nearly impossible for someone to tamper with a Ledger device without it being immediately detected by the cryptographic integrity check. All those wild scenarios? Purely hypothetical. Stay secure and have fun watching the absurdity unfold! 😆
Great video; i figured this out on my own. The reason why folks are having these concerns is that content creators are making and have made videos about tampering of hard wallets and what to look out for.
Yes, but the genuine check is shown only AFTER we finished the setup (input password and generated the seed phrase). Why not do it before? Like when you connect a brand new device with Ledger Live and the first screen is a big genuine checked ticked logo.
Because the device is not functional until you have set it up. Your computer does not mount the device unless the pin is entered. And to enter a pin you must have set the device up. This is a security feature that prevents certain types of tampering attacks. If you are concerned, then set up the device, do the genuine check, and then reset the device. You can start from scratch knowing the device is genuine. But frankly this is overkill. This might be a concern of someone doing a restore that does not want to expose their seed phrase until they have seen the genuine check. But for first time users, the device is still empty when you get to the genuine check.
lol so funny, more worried about malware but as long as my send is correct i shouldn’t worry. Should be good because only my ledger and I can initiate a transfer from the block correct?
Search it its been done I'm not guessing have read accounts of people buying from third parties. Question. If it hasn't been done why are they telling you to always buy from the official website. Why check box to see if tampered. As for the authentication check I think that's the hook if fails Then bogus help line trick nubies clicking links. Anyways I'm a 58 year old DaD also not new to crypto have been badly burnt. So safety a major priority. Hears you next videos gnosis safe now known as safe 2 or 3 account verification. Have set up a contract but I'm having trouble does not ask me for second account needs some tweaking. Anyways thank you for your videos Goin with ledger stay because of you. 👊
a lot of excessive hyperbole in the middle section 🤔. Yes most concerns are out of turn, but you can’t blame people for being concerned. Also while it’s admittedly unlikely a whole batch would be tampered with, it’s not totally unlikely that ONE or TWO would have the seed phrase setup and written down, and anyone who isn’t in the know might easily assume it’s meant to be like that out of the box.
I disagree. I don’t think anyone would use a wallet that came with an existing seed phrase and I don’t think any experienced hacker would attempt such a lame attack. but I could be wrong. Stranger Things have happened. Yes I agree. There was a lot of excessive hyperbole. It was a rather self-indulgent rant, but I was trying to drive home the point that this type of attack would be extremely difficult and expensive. And this seems to be what most people are afraid of as opposed to really focusing on the things that are the real threats like mis-managing the seed phrase.
@ I get where you’re coming from, and to be clear it was fun to watch, I’ve been very much enjoying your videos and finding them informative. Hopefully you’re right and people wouldn’t use a supplied set of phrase words… 🤞🏻
@@frodev728 Before they send their crypto to it one would hope they’ve done a little bit of research and finds out seed phrases don’t come pre written. It’s in the slogan. Don’t trust verify.

That sounds like a challenge!

Yes I have seen a couple of thumbnails out there with surprised faces and stern warnings!
I think it's more for people who buy the ledger from best. Buy or some retail store instead of going to ledger the manufacturer.
Yes that thought occurred to me as well. Rogue minimum-wage employees on their lunch break with high end tampering skills

Brilliant a bit of dry humour as well
Most be that get “ hacked “ are not following best practices.
My point exactly!
Thanks for responding to my queries.
FBI, NSA, CIA. Tampering is no problem,

In short, hardware wallets are safe!!

Thanks crypto dad

yes the confirmation on the device is your ultimate check.
