When I was in university in Toronto a bunch of us went to the Brunswick Tavern upstairs one night to see A blues legend-I can't recall who it was. Healy opened for him and blew everybody away. It was a very early performance in his carear. He exploded after that. He ended up at our house and partied most of the night with my buddies. He had a great club in Toronto where he played regularily. He was captivating. Life wasn't fair to him but he burned it down anyway. Very cool guy. What would he be doing now if he was still with us? It would be mind blowing.
It's funny U mentioned Stevie Ray Vaughan. Jeff and SRV toured and played a lot together. Cancer took his eyes at 1, Someone put a guitar in his lap at 2. He taught himself to play it like a "steel guitar". Cancer took hiss life 2 weeks before his 42nd birthday, 4 week weeks before his st studio album in 11 yrs was released....
I saw Jeff in a nightclub on a Wednesday night just down the road from where I lived in Toronto, Amazing. This was before he became better known. I went up and shook his hand afterwards. Amazing (I had 'special access' in those days at this particular club).
He was 'discovered' by Ronnie Hawkins playing guitar on the street outside the Colonial Tavern in Toronto and was invited on stage to play with them at maybe 14 years old. He was a prodigy but his real love was playing dixieland trumpet and other old jazz. His accomplishments in life should be an inspiation to anybody with a disability to not let it hold them back. His bandmates in this vid are some of the finest musicians in the world and look at how hard they are working to keep up. I once saw Jeff play and jam with SRV snd Jeff Beck on the same stage (Skydome) and they all kicked a$$. RIP Jeff Healey.
A great Canadian musician who left too soon at the age of 41, he was blind from cancer in his eyes and had a unique way to play guitar. Great guitarist, he covered some great songs, Angel Eyes, "I Think I Love You Too Much" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".
One of the greatest musicians to ever come out of my home country, Canada. In a first for the Juno Awards (Canada's Grammys), both he and Colin James won best new artist.
He was in Roadhouse. This performance, however, was not from that film. This was live, in front of a studio audience. No retakes. That being said....What an incredible performance!
I saw him a couple of times when he was doing the university pub circuit. Funny thing is we all knew how lucky we were to witness him before he inevitably got "discovered".
Great reaction!! LOVE this track, LOVE Mr. Jeff Healey (RIP - gone WAY too soon at 41 years, back in 2006)! Kudos to Omar Hakim for holding the fort, expertly might I add, and the one and only Dr. John on keys! Night Music was a music program, every Sunday night I believe. The man with the sax is David Sanborn. Marcus & Omar were part of the house band. Hosted by Jools Holland. Jeff and his regular band would go on to be the house band in Road House in 1989. My wife (then girlfriend) and I saw Jeff in our local roadhouse (Lulu's) back in 1999 - and it was a stellar performance!! Besides this track, he blew the roof off the place with his cover of Cream's Sunshine Of Your Love (25 years later and I remember it clear as day!). What a wonderful talent - taken from us FAR too soon!
Marcus not only backed Jeff as good as anyone could he was right there watching out for Jeff it looked like to me That impressed me as much as his playing
I live in Vancouver and have seen Mr. Healy a few times as he was just at the time in his young days would perform at The Yale Pub. In the years that have past I'd get off of work and go the Yale and Jeff would be there. Now be it, Jeff at the time didn't play with the likes of B.B. Ah yes I remember watching a documentary about the guy you are thinking of. Jason Becker, at least I think that's right.
Jeff was in the movie Roadhouse but this performance wasn't in the movie he covered the doors song Roadhouse Blues by the doors in the movie as well as a couple of his own originals. This performance was from a late night tv show. Jeff lost his eyes to a rare form of cancer when he was only 1 they had to remove his eyes in order to save his life. You should check out the video with Jeff Healy and Stevie Ray Vaughan doing the song Look At Little Sister together. We need to go back to the days when on Friday and Saturday nights TV would bring you shows like this . with big name bands putting on a show.
Jeff was self-taught from the age of around 3 or 4 when his parents gave him a guitar. And PS Jimi already created a child, with James Brown, and his name was Prince.✌
I'm glad I was able to see him perform live from the front row in 1993. Also got to enjoy Los Lobos, Albert Collins, Little Jimmy King that same day ..... 🖤

I've mentioned in the comment before that I am Canadian. And I love power trios. I found you through your Rush coverage. in the '80s I think it was 87 I was living in Toronto and a friend called me on a Wednesday night and said you could have come see this guy at the Nags Head North Tavern. It was Jeff Healey there were 25 people in the bar and it was freaking amazing I became a fan that day. I was just visiting Toronto and went back to my hometown in New Brunswick. Every time Jeff Healey would play in Halifax Nova Scotia 15 of my friends and I would drive down to see him. What an amazing artist and I miss him. You should check out when the Night comes falling from the Roadhouse soundtrack. Now I've never found a video of him doing All Along the Watchtower live but if you can find it you should check it out. Just a thought from a fan thanks for your shows

Funny you should mention Stevie Ray Vaughn at the end. You should check out Jeff Healey playing with SRV on "Look At Little Sister". You can see the mutual respect between these two guitar legends.
He had a cancer that took his eye sight as a wee lad. For some reason I think you're from Texas, for nothing other than your use of "y'all". 😉No matter, but the vid with J.H. jamming on stage with Texan, S.R.V is pretty great.
Hey Red, are you from New Orleans? You say "y'all" and you know Dr. John. Just wondering. Btw, Jeff does a cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" that kicks ass. It was my introduction to him. Incredible musician.
Okay Red I am a little jealous. You are being introduced to some crazy amazing music today. Now it's Jeff Healey with some of the best musicians: Omar Hakim on drums, Marcus Miller on bass and Dr. John on keyboards and JH on guitar. I am so jealous that you are hearing this for the first time. Enjoy this magic. Mark
Hey red it's me again, I saw that you were reacting to Jeff healey. I'm so glad you are being introduced to so many good musicians. You obviously have a great following of people who have good taste in music.
As great as he was you should see his performances with Stevie Ray Vaugan when they play together it blows the roof off the building. They have them on several you tube channels.
Hey my sexy red head neighbor when you do Dan Vasc Amarican Trilogy this song was Dans Dads favorite Elvis song and Dan struggled to sing this he sheds a tear at the very end his Dan had passed shortly before he sang this we will be waiting my friend see you soon
I have related this elsewhere on RUclips, however I can't help but repeat it, truth it being and damn lucky as I was ... Mid/late '80s, Victoria BC, early evening on a warm summer Thursday: Me and some of the boys headed out to a local dance club / pick up bar that usually had a DJ. (🤭 Hey, I was young, well, late 20s, and there would likely be pretty girls there! 😂). When we arrived, we were perplexed to discover there was a lineup to get in, with posters advertising a live performer (not usual) debuting that night, with praises by the likes of B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan. So, what the hell, we waited in line. Once we got in we sat at a table right by the dance floor, about 15 feet from a two foot raised stage. After ordering our beer, the band came out, obviously guiding a blind guy. My buddies and I kinda looked at each other quizzically. 🤔 They sat him down in a chair onstage, handed him an electric guitar, which he placed on his lap 😯 ... then, when they started to play ... my world changed. Forever. It was Jeff Healey and his band, before their first album came out: I had never heard of him/them before, but he, specifically, had my attention now. He proceeded to play the cleanest, most amazing, unbelievable guitar licks I'd ever heard. He played blues, he played rock, he played country, he even played a bit of what sounded like flamenco. He played Hendrix better than Hendrix, he played with his teeth, he played while literally jumping around blind like a mad man. He seemed to be having a religious experience onstage. Despite it being a dance club, NOBODY danced that night. Every person, patrons and staff alike, stood around, hypnotized, with their mouths agape, staring, hardly believing what they were seeing and hearing. I went back Friday and Saturday, and again three nights the following week, as they were playing a two week gig there. Their first album came out shortly thereafter, and then he was in a movie with Patrick Swayze, and then ... well, I sadly never got to see Jeff Healey perform live again. But I still feel blessed, and I shall never forget how amazing the experience was that first night I saw him play! 😊 Rock on, Redheaded Neighbor! ✊️(I had to fight the natural/national urge to spell it "Neighbour". 🇨🇦😋)
This video isn't from the movie. I think it's from a late night show. Jeff Healey, however, is in the original Road House movie as a guitarist in a band (his original band, I think) in the bar, The Double Deuce. More misinformation and lack of information. (Jeff Healey has been blind since 2 years of age.) from a subscriber, but whatever. Jeff Healey, nonetheless in the performance you were intended to be shown. Never mind being blind. His playing is jaw-dropping!! I wish this was his original band because the rhythm section section here is way better than the guys he plays with. They're not bad, but they're not these guys!
Hey RHN, that's awesome that you found Jeff Healey. He was a killer guitar player. I saw an interview along time ago... he was driving a tour bus in the interview, it was hilarious. Not at regular speed, but still pretty funny. Yes please check out more of him. Have a excellent evening!!!!

I saw that you were reacting to Jeff healey. I'm so glad you are being introduced to so many good musicians. You obviously have a great following of people who have good taste in music.
@@marklawrence9599 he is so good
Would watch Sanborn’s show late night early 90s. Miller on bass and Omar Hakim on drums!
As great as he was you should see his performances with Stevie Ray Vaugan when they play together it blows the roof off the building. They have them on several you tube channels.
@@nethanelmasters5170 great suggestion awesome performance srv and Jeff 👍👍

Rock on, Redheaded Neighbor!
