    This is excellent.
    I have an idea for you.
    On the backing side cut out an oval shaped hand hold with your router.
    That way when slinging the strap across the shoulder the hand hold will allow extra control of the load.
    Thanks that was cool.
    Look forward to seeing more videos.

    Based on my limited space of my wood shop, this will be a perfect solution for an out feed table at my table saw and an assembly table. this will replace my wobbly saw horses and scrap wood that I am currently using. I will eliminate the gas shocks and locks to reduce cost. Let gravity do the work. Thanks for the ideas. Keep them coming.

  • @Deathmaster213
    @Deathmaster213 3 года назад +14

    The modular locking multiple tables together idea sounds cool, you could turn them into temporary outfeed tables, 2x2 or 2x3 for sheet materials, or 1x3 for narrower materials etc. Being tall, my bugbear with any Workmate or trestles is that they're always too low. The abilty to change the height or extend the legs would be good.

    Love the concept mate Well done! Was really hoping the final product was exact height of your current bench in your workshop as a sort of outfeed, but I guess can be incorporated into any height in other versions.
    I've built my own version of the Ron Paulk style bench top (but without the holes in surface) and think part of your design is my perfect solution to a leg support system that lays flat!! Thank you Sir appreciate your design skills and knowledge

    I absolutely love this design. I think I’m going to make something very similar for my hearse. I cut the floor in half to install a rear folding seat out of a station wagon. And if I want to have a full length floor like before, I can just simply place a folding table like this to fill in the space between the partition and the folded back seat. Thank you so much for sharing this project.

    Great project!
    Might I suggest using aluminium as the edging, as it's light, strong and would allow you to incorporate thread into it which could be aligned to allow multiple tables to be bolted together easily. Also by reducing the depth of the edging you could more easily use clamps on the edges of the tables.
    I would also look at adding a grid of holes on the top surface so that dog clamps and other similar products could be used on it.
    The last thing you could do is have extendable feet incase of uneven flooring. They could be long bolts with rubber on the bottom that screw out or custom made ones at 4 points to maximize stability

    • @SenselessUsername
      @SenselessUsername 3 года назад +2

      Agreed --- but a cheaper way of fixing tables to each other, would be threaded inserts into half the legs and their "opposites" having a hole for a fitting bold. Like Paoson woodworking does with his modular workbenches.

    I am 75 years old and Japanese.
    The "Aritugi" technology of woodworking is well suited to the hot, humid, and earthquake-prone environment of Japan.
    The biggest advantage is that it minimizes the use of rust-prone nails and other materials, reduces damage to the wood, and dampens seismic shaking with unfastened joints.
    Furthermore, the entire building can be disassembled like Lego blocks, and only the damaged parts can be replaced and rebuilt as before.

    Love this one!! Allot of applications for legs like that as well, got the cogs turning… could maybe put a big of pvc pipe over the rod to so it rolls rather than dragging. Could use it at craft markets and have the backing as the front with your logo etc on… anyways I like it!

  • @richs5422
    @richs5422 3 года назад +2

    Excellent design. You might consider holes on the tops of the legs into which rounded pins on the underside of the top fit into. Or the sliding pin gate hardware thing mounted on the legs that goes partly into the top. The leg stretchers could perhaps be box aluminum bridle-jointed to each end. As others have pointed out, if the aspect ratio of the top is at least 2:1 the stretchers don't need to cross. This allows the gate legs to rotate all the way to the corners, but at the cost of some of the coolness of your design. However, 1 X 2" (25 X 50 mm) box with 1/8"(3mm) thick wall might be strong enough to only need one bar at the top to serve as brace and table apron. Expensive stuff, but it might be worth using some.

  • @penjon
    @penjon 3 года назад +1

    It's basically a gateleg table. The intersecting legs are interesting and might give it a bit of added strength and the trim and carrying strap are a nice touch.

    I think this is genius! You could easily use this design to make a 4x8 work table/station for a garage without having to commit to have one that’s stationary. I personally built an all in one table, based of yours and I love it! I’m lucky to have a large enough garage to have it and my cars fit but as mentioned before, a large scale version would be perfect for those who would like to have a large sturdy work table but be able to store it in the corner when not in use.

    I like this design, looks very strong and very stable.
    If you make the table top a little deeper and adjust the hinge placement, you can add trim to the back edge, and the legs and side panel will all fit inside the four pieces of trim on the top. That would also allow the top to rest on the back panel as well as the legs, increasing strength and stability.

    Excellent design and execution as ever. I really enjoy your ideas. Consideration: make the "feet" overhang the edge slightly on fold up; his way you don't have 5 points of ground contact (backing board off the ground). For foot covering edging you can either segment (feet fill the gap on closing - which would also give clamp clearance on opening) or just route out 3/8" for a 3/8" foot overhang if you want a cleaner looking edging. As to increasing height, perhaps adding 2 slots per "foot" with knob and insert in the extension pieces.

    try drilling holes in the legs and side panel to reduce the weight . the stresses on the table are vertically up and down so shouldn't make much difference to the load capacity of the table. the catches to keep it close turn them around so they don't protrude the top of the table

  • @wingsley
    @wingsley 3 года назад

    I like the basic concept. The overall configuration can actually go in several different directions from here. If you sanded and finished/painted it as-is, it would make a nice little portable desk and/or dining table to set up at a remote job-site (or your rural viewing platform on that hillside in the desert). On the other hand, if you wanted to use this as a job-site collapsible workbench, you could tinker around and see if you could use larger components to give the workbench greater overall height. You could also use the PARF Guide system to perforate the table-top with bench-dog-holes at regular intervals. You could also experiment with the bottoms of the legs to give the table epoxy "feet" to make it more skid-proof and more durable in a variety of indoor and outdoor work environments.

    If it needs to work outdoors you will want rubber touching the ground for the feet to avoid water soaking into the wood. So you might want to apply that to the design. It seems good otherwise. I have seen other portable tables which are tortion boxes with collapsable saw horses but this is a nice idea utilising the 90 degree rotation to make the legs work the way you did.
    The only other design I could think of would be a case which opens up 180 degrees by hinges to create the work surface (locking in place) and inside are cut outs that you can use to slot together as a torsion base like a # design that slots into the underside of the work surface securly. Maybe bolted to fix in place.

    I like it, but think it comes down to whether you want to build it or buy it. Right now, in the US, a sheet of construction grade plywood is $70 and with the rod, hinges, and other components, project total could easily be $100 or more. A nice folding workbench like the Keter can be found for about $120 to $130. I will say, this is a much better design than many tables I've seen. Strong, solid and folds up nicely.
