    In this video I'm showing you how I built pegboard tool storage for my garage workshop. I built it to slide out so I can access the tools, but it is space saving and out of the way when the drawers are back in place. This would also be a great solution for a craft room or garden tool storage!

    Down and dirty shop furniture is awesome! The intimate "garage" setting and clear explanation harken back to simpler times and is so appealing. We love the "big shop" and "commercial building" videos, but when our heroes look like us it is somehow very encouraging. Thanks for your knowledge-share and friendly manner.

      Thats right! There are more garage & basement, work shops out there, than bigger shop buildings. So I enjoy watching April's ideas for small area shops, work benches, storage, etc.

    April I really like this space saving and utilizing idea ... the only thing I would add to it myself is a cord of some sort or light chain in the back that connects to each drawer so that it cannot be pulled all the way out ... especially if you are going to have it up higher since you would not want to pull the drawer to far out and have it fall.

    Hi April, Ryan here. I'm a middle aged guy who's just over the past couple of years has gotten into doing some woodworking, and collecting tools for my shop. I just discovered your channel a couple of days ago, and after watching just a couple videos, I became an instant fan. I love you straight to the point style. You have a very clear and concise way of explaining everything, so there's no ambiguity in what you're doing, and what we're seeing. From what I'm seeing so far, I would rank you right up there with my long time top five faves for weekend-warrior woodworking channels. As I watch more and more of your videos, I'm hoping you're open to suggestions for new content. You have such an awesome style, so I'd love for you to maybe once in a while do some side my side project reviews. I've seen a lot of side by side tool shootout videos, but aside from some tool bench build shootouts, what I've never really seen is side by side build shootouts for other things like tool carts, shelves, storage cabinets, drawers, etc... and other necessary builds for setting up a shop. I realize a lot of this stuff can be subjective because everyone's needs can be different. However, when you boil it right down, we all need to solve a lot of the same problems in our shops, and it's nice to be shown some options and know what you're favorites might be. Not sure if that made sense or not.
    I'm just at the beginning stages of setting up my shop, because for the past number of years I've been using very substandard tools, like the cheapest HF table saw, miter saw, and things like that, and I've been pretty much relegated to making messes on our back patio. However, over the past couple of years Santa and the Birthday Fairy have been very generous to me, I;m becoming more serious about it, as well as moving the "operation" into the garage, where I can roll my largest tools out into the driveway, and then back into the garage when I'm done for the day. I have a three car garage, but I'm limited to the smallest bay because we park our two cars inside on the larger side of the garage. In any event, I'm pleased to have found your channel, and look forward to binge-watching over the coming weeks. In short, you, madam, have earned another subscriber. And to think, I just complained about other people who feel the need to go on and on about their life stories. Anyway, here's me wishing you and yours much health in these crazy times.

    I love this idea April. I'm about to start on a new shop project. I bought an antique cabinet with cast iron wheels I can wheel around the shop or bring outside on nice days and this storage cabinet of yours will be perfect on top of it. The cabinet has nice divided drawers and will hold some of my hardware and your cabinet will hold my most frequently used hand tools. Thank you for sharing, stay healthy and remember, God only gives us what we can handle.

    Oh April, thank you so much for helping me not feel like a dinosaur for still using pegboard! My shop space is completely textured and painted sheetrock garage. I have a big pegboard that my father used at the rice dryer so it has sentimental value for me. It still has chalk on it from back in the day. This is a great idea because I'm running out of wall space. 👍

    Hi April, the pegboard usage is a definite winner, and if I remade mine I would use ply with laser or hand drilled (pegboard) holes. I found 7mm ply was more than sufficiently rigid, but it was a little smaller, (briefcase size), so you could possibly also reduce weight by making the pegboard frame smaller. The pegboard approach creates so much versatility compared to my solid mounted fixtures and brackets etc. I've attached a link to my video, which was done as an assessment in my last year of my teaching degree; it’s way too long winded so just skip to the 7:20 mark and finish at 11:13. Other than my monotonous presentation, I would appreciate any feedback; good, bad or indifferent. Keep up design, builds and videos, I enjoy them. Regards, Jim

    • @chrissewell1608
      @chrissewell1608 2 года назад

      Although paste wax has been used for years, it tends to collect dust and debris. It works, but either gets nasty over time, or scrapes away and needs to be reapplied. I think there are better choices now.

    My personal thing is that I like to keep all my tools free of dust and, when I turn off the lights in my workshop, all looks reasonably neat and tidy. It’s just me. What I did in my new workshop is quite like you have done - except that I bought several full height tambour door office storage units - say 2m high x 400mm deep x 800mm wide (6’6” x 16” x 32”). I then built “trays” using 12mm plywood and, like you, banded them for rigidity. Because my vertical trays are that much larger then yours, I could not see that just manual sliding would work. So, I used normal heavy duty drawer slides set on edge. The trays now pull out very, very easily and go back just as nicely. I didn’t use pegboard but am making custom tools holders for both sides of the 5 trays.
    This might be useful to someone who has a tall, thin space for their tool storage

      Glad you enjoyed the video. Some may actually call me a pain. But thanks. :)

      @@AprilWilkerson I really do enjoy watching your videos. You always have something new, easy to build plans, & common sense ideas. I usually end up binge watching a few episodes, before I catch myself, and have to get back to my day job! Plus, you seem to be a genuinely nice, average person. (Okay... Above Average!) But, I think viewers feel they can relate to that.

    Having very little wall space this is a very good solution for me ! Now you just need to label every one of them so you know what is in what. :)
