  • How to setup tr-8S trigger out to use one of the great feature of the Roland TR-08S: the triggers. Of course there is the dedicated trigger out, but also each of the 6 assignables audio out can be a used as a trigger out. It then provides up to 7 trigger sequences!!! That's GREAT! Check out the video for more on how to set it up.

    I’ve had my TR-8S for a few years now and NEVER knew those other assignable outputs could trigger synths too! I only thought it was the trigger out. My mind is sufficiently blown from the staggering amount of possibilities that opened up for me. Like for example If you start sidechaining some of those synths / the drum machine audio in unique ways, not to mention what would happen if I did bus processing on everything afterwards…. And to add further connectivity, using various degrees of midi connections between the systems where possible… it’s staggering how much untapped power I’ve been sitting on with my tr-8S😅🤯 I’m going to have to set aside a couple weeks just to reserve an entire bank of presets for these new patterns now…thanks for everything you do, good sir. Your work on this channel is truly one of the best and most helpful out there. Cheers

      Jengalese hi. I'm struggling with anything other than midi with the microfreak. Trig out from the tr8s seems to lack transport control (start stop) and I can't get the mf to behave like my monologue does (one step per trigger). And if I try and use the tips in this vid, (using an extra assigned trig from a different track on the tr8s.) Doesn't seem to give enough of a signal to work consistently. I still need to do some more fiddling I think. Still not sure the voltage out on the non dedicated trig out is what the mf or monologue needs. My assumption is that in this vid it works because it's all roland gear talking to roland gear. But you'd expect it to work with most stuff!!

    Can I use one cable and send the midi out from the tr to the sh midi in and then midi out to the se midi in?
    Or should I buy a midi splitter cable and send the midi from the tr to the sh and se equally?
    If I wanted to sync all of this to logic and receive the synth audio in logic what would be the best way?
    Thank you you’re a great teacher!!!

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  4 года назад +1

      The three devices you are talking about have MIDI and Audio over USB. If you comme them to a USN hub to your computer you will able to send and receive MIDI including sync. On top of that you will be able to record audio from each. A second option is if you want to sync all of them without the computer: using standard MIDI cables and a splitter you should take the MIDI output of the tr-8 into a splitter them to each devices. Less latency.

    Been watching you videos and your knowledge far exceeds my own, so taking the liberty to bother you with a question, which i've been unable to find for days on Google:
    I have extremely low audio when connecting TR-8S (FW: 1.13) via USB to MX-1 (FW: 1.05). Both factory reset. All other AIRA devices have 3x volume (TB-3 and SYSTEM-1), When I connect speaker directly to TR-8S audio is also 3x louder vs USB. Do you have any idea what could be wrong? I even tried using the USB cables which are successful with the two other AIRA devices, but no luck

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  4 года назад

      I have found also that USB audio is a lot lower than when using analog cable. I use the channel gain in the MX-1 to get the volume to a good one. It’s a digital signal, so boosting it will not really add any artifacts.

      In the TR-8S it is possible to assign any sound to any "track" so you could have 3 Kick, 2 snares and the rest your custom samples. All of is would be saved in a kit that can be recalled.

    How can I start my Roland tr 8s with my foot pedal instead my hand finger

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  10 месяцев назад

      I don’t think you can do that using only the TR-8s and a sustain pedal. You will need to send a MIDI start message

      What exactly do you mean by "trigger it". Playing MIDI Notes or Arpegiator MIDI sync or...?

    I still cant get the tr-8s to trigger anything, do you think its because im using a mono trigger cable?

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  5 лет назад +1

      The trigger NEED to be mono.

    I see no sync in on the tr8s. I am used to send my tempo out from my DFAM or Mother-32 into my korg volca beats and then use the volca beats out to sync with other synths...I see the TR8s has only MIDI IN or OUT and maybe it wouldn’t fit well with my setup...or is there a way to sync them properly?

    • @JonathanRCross

      Tr8s - Only midi in, or USB midi, no sync in as far as I'm aware.

    somehow it doesnt work when i connect my td3 and tr8s via trigger out to sync in

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  4 года назад

      In the TD3 manual they write about switches at the back of the device to select the clock source. Maybe it is not in gate sync mode?

    • @VinceWallace478

      Nu-Trix The Synth Guy thank you for the answer. Changing the clock source from internal to trigger via synth tool solved the problem for me ( had to set it to 1 pps or something like that)

    You're not using the rimshot but RC (Ride Cymbal) for the second trigger. ;-)

    • @Nu-trix

      Patch the output of the MicroFreak in the Tr8s external input ( left). In the tr-8s internal menus find the settings for external input and set it to mono. Turn up the estern alors input volume (beside the master volume)
