This is, by far, the coolest Boutique Roland has ever released, thanks to the knowledge of Studio Electronics. I have mine for 2 days now and I know one thing for sure: I will never need a Moog! This little beast has its very own character and I love it already. Thanks for this. To echo what some others have already said- yours is the most helpful video I have found yet on the SE-02 sequencer. I bought mine used from Guitar Center. I could not figure out how to get the sequencer to work. After watching what you did and trying mine once again it seemed not to be working. I am very happy to report that a factory data reset did the trick.

Thanks for the helpful vid Nutrix syntheguy. Learning my SE-02 sequencer. I know the upgrade 1.1 features but it’s good to learn the basics. Love the SE-02. Sounds good with the triple VCOs, easy the store your own patch memories, has a great built in digital delay and a really powerful sequencer.
It's the only boutique without even step rec mode....The Korg Volca Key sequencer the more time passes, the more it's phenomenal to look at, and rec live... the TR08 has live tap rec... sigh... if only there was a firmware update to fix this clunkyness.... it's the only Major downside to an almost perfect Synth. tnx for the content Nu-Trix: unvaluable contribution!!

Can you make a video on showing how to sync the Se 02 arpeggiator to the tempo of the Song? There's not one video on RUclips. Not even the manufacturer has made one. you would think they would show you how to do that. how to sync the SE-02 to your D.A.W? How do you make the se-02 slave to a master clock or to your D.A.W? i guess your just suppose to know how to do this?
I do not have the se-02 anymore. But you should find in the menu the slave to MIDI clock option. I think by default it will follow any clock coming in.
I have the se 02 for a copple of days. I connect it with fantom g8. Its a nice upgrade for live looping in combination with the fantom. There nice deep sounds included, only deel the sounds in my opinion dont sound like the chord. When you are compare with a preset on the fantom. Its looks like the sounds are layered or that kind. Also when i have done the chord memory setup, or i do something wrong probebly but still must find out. But overal the sounds are great and good playable. The interface looks hard to learn but if now how the interface its confidentiel. Only view disapointments, 1 polyfoon, why dont at least 2 polyfoon and make a drumunit in one device. Maybe in the future. No normal usb stick, no sample support, no layer function for more sounds. Hopefully a nice upgrade with some of these with extra sound banks. Note: when you have record a song track you can use this patch and record it again to have a sample, at least on my fantom. This is handsome when you are in song mode or you want to play more notes at once on the keys. Thnx for the support 😘 greetings uit Holland
So. The 'Manual/play" button can HOLD the sequence, only if you have 'key trigger' or 'key trn' (transpose) turned OFF. I want to have key transpose ON, so the only way I can HOLD my sequence is to jam a folded credit card between the keys. Seriously?? Is there any workaround, or other way to have a HOLD button? (like the one on the JU06a)

Valdis Krebs, that is a hard one. I do love the SH because it is fast to use and hard to make a bad sound but I love the analog pulse width sound of the se-2.
Hi Nu-Trix There are firmware updates and no videos for updating on RUclips. I want to update my SE02 but the Roland instructions aren’t clear enough for me 😪. The NAMM winter 2018 show they have new updates and software coming out, to add some new features. Can you please help me and other people. 🇨🇦. A video showing the steps would amazing thank you 🙏
I will look into it. I’m not sure how close it can be sound wise. The TB-303 has a -18 dB filter and the se-02 has -12 or -24 if I remember well. I’ll try to simulate a tb.

Hi, thanks for making the vid; I appreciate it. I have the same question as Daniel; I want the 'song' to loop continuously, but it seems it doesn't. the reason is that I want a 32 beat pattern but a pattern is only 16 beats so I think I need to chain two 16 beat patterns. I know that I could set the timing of one pattern to 1/8 instead of 1/16 to double the length but this also doubles the gate time which I don't want. Do you happen to know of a work around for this?
I'm confused by what the features are when I'm switched to sequencer and press both the note and gate buttons. It shows destination Int, E=t, bot. Then Sync Int, Nid, USB,Trg. and Ypg =trigger on, off and trn. I was trying to set my tr09 to trigger out. Thanks.
From the manual : DESTINATION : Specifies the output destination of the song. Int: Internal, : External device, bot: Both internal and external device SYNC : Specifies the clock to which the song is synchronized. Int: Internal, Nid: MIDI IN, USb: USB MIDI, trg: TRIGGER IN TEMPO : Specifies the song’s playback tempo when Sync is set to “Int.” 40-300 KEY TRIGGER : Specifies whether the song is controlled by key trigger. OFF: Not controlled, On: Controlled, trn: Controlled by key trigger or note number * This works only when using the K-25m.
Hey thanks. I was able to get my tr09 to show the four dashes, but I'm not able to set the trigger pattern, i.e: pulse on 1-16 steps. I set the TR09 to auto. I'm using a Roland connectivity cable. Should I be using a patch cable? My TR-09 also doesn't have PAN. Has anyone else not been able to set trigger pattern until they download the update?

Hi Ni trix If I set the se02 to sync over usb it works but if I change sequence it goes back to internal.How do you set it to sync over usb permanent. Very annoying having to set it every time I change sequence

Hey, first of all: thanks for this really helpful video! I have some issues with my SE-02. When I try to loop a bar in Ableton, the SE-02 automatically changes to song mode after the bar gets triggered again. Do you have any idea, how to solve this?

When I select "No Input" in the Ableton "MIDI From" selection, I do not have any issues BUT I also do not have the possibility to record CC values. If I select the SE-02 as MIDI Input device it's possible to record CC values but it switches to song mode after the first loop.

I dont think it works like that. I wish it was functional that way.

If I’m not mistaken they announced the updates and the editor but it’s not yet available. I’ll check when it’s actually suppose to be available.

Live and per step. The SE-02 has the most powerful sequencer of the Boutique series.

When not connected to the Mac, the se-02 behave normally?
Have you verify the firmware version of you se -02?

It clearly states in the manual "only one parameter value is saved per step". Has that changed since the latest firmware?

For the one of the Ableton Live scene is sending a patch change MIDI message? Even if it is for a another synth, the SE-02 could be responding to it.
