Great video. I find it particularly valuable to hear your constructive criticism of the top-rated restaurants the two of you visit. Additionally, a good balance in this video with both of you eating/reviewing the food. I appreciate your perspective and down-to-earth positive vibe :)

Thanks so much! Are there any restaurants you’d like us to try? Yes haha we’ve been trying to split it up a little more but my on camera abilities still have a ways to go. Thanks, really appreciate it!

@@travelfuller Hmm, I have always wanted to try ZZ Clam Bar (but I see they are temporarily closed). In the same restaurant group, perhaps Carbone. On the steakhouse front, Wolfgang's or the Palm may be interesting. I question if each of these would be worth the money or the experience. Thank you for asking :)

@@ArtfulThinking. Unfortunately ZZ Clam Bar is gone for good and we were never able to try it. We've been meaning to get to Carbone, hopefully we can make a video on it soon! We've been to both Wolfgang's and the Palm before starting this channel but we definitely want to get back to both to make a video and to compare to the rest of the steakhouses we've gone to recently. Thanks for the suggestions!

The Boat House is a one of a kind NYC gem. That place is a vibe. I went there about 16 years ago. I don’t remember being rushed at all but I guess it’s changed. Maybe your review video will slow service down a bit in the future. Also checkout the Boat Basin on West 79th. Less fancy but fun and romantic too. Great video!

You captured the essence of the place. Out of town guests wanted to go there. I tried to talk them out of it.
We encountered the same thing you did. We asked for a table by the window. They refused and said all of the window tables were reserved. The place was empty and nobody ever came.
They rushed us. Just terrible. Unlike your experience, our food was awful. Inedible really. And $8.00 for bread, er, I mean "Bread Service."
This dump won't last long...and doesn't deserve to. Glad my friends treated me.

    • @travelfuller
      @travelfuller  6 месяцев назад +1

That's terrible! I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience. The table situation is ridiculous. We gave the price of the bread a bit of a pass because we had gone to Gage and Tollner the day before where their Parker House rolls are $12 for four. We've seen mixed reviews about the food which is why we were so surprised how much we enjoyed ours. Did you get any of the same things as us? I wonder if it's certain dishes that are better than others or if they are really inconsistent. And unfortunately, I don't see it improving. Locals most likely won't go more than once, but tourists will probably keep it in business

@@travelfuller I had the SPICY JUMBO LUMP CRAB & AVOCADO Cocktail, which was undercooked and had an awful sauce. The stuffed mushrooms tasted like a TGI Fridays frozen app. The Chicken Milanese was undercooked. My friend's burger was ordered medium-rare and delivered well-done.
It was not a good experience. From now on Central Park is for walking, lazing and playing softball. No Boathouse for me. Frankly the Upper East and Upper West, for the most part, are restaurant black holes.

Sadly it will operate for quite a long time. It's now owned by Legends, a huge hospitality conglomerate most famous for operating concessions at stadiums and arenas. (Jerry Jones is one of the owners.) They have a 10-year contract and spent millions to renovate. What's sad is the food at some of their stands at Yankee Stadium is better than what they serve - but as long as tourists are their main target, they don't care about service but only to maximize profits because tourists are largely a one time customer.

So I was here last weekend. My family has a place on E83rd, so it's about a 10 minute walk. I've honestly never got a table, I do bar service. The former lease holder was Dean Poll, the owner of Gallagher's (which is funny... I mentioned in your last post). His 2 brothers are acquaintances, and own multiple restaurants on Long Island.
Anyway, you need to go in here with a NYC attitude. It's definitely a tourist trap, yet I'll go all summer. I hate to say it, but I've been treated differently (better) once they realized I was a local guy. The views of the lake & park are second to none, and grabbing a spot at the 4 seat outdoor bar in the summer is the best!
I do recommend, but with a grain of salt. Better to start with a cocktail here on a beautiful summer night, then head to one of the many walk-able restaurants in the area. Thanks for the review!

Wow that’s so interesting! I never knew that but it explains why we liked it much more before. It’s a beautiful spot, especially when they open the outdoor area. We and the people originally seated next to us both mentioned to our server that we were locals and they just said, “that’s nice.” Haha so that didn’t work too well for us. But despite everything we probably will go back. The location is too good to pass up! Do you have any other recommendations on the UES?

@arelyjag13 I'll never go back. Update from my post... As I said, my family is on E83rd. I stopped in for a glass of wine recently while cutting through the park. I go to pay and throw a $20 on the bar, and they tell me "sorry, we don't take cash" I almost took my cash back, and walked out, but I don't have it in me to do that. I just left the cash and walked out after they argued with me for 2 minutes.

It's owned by a huge hospitality conglomerate Legends, who is famous for operating food concessions at stadiums and arenas (Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, is one of the main owners). They obviously value volume over quality, and I guess they don't really have much experience in fine dining service. Maximize profits. No wonder the New York Post just destroyed it in its review when it opens - and that why they know that tourists will be their bread and butter - and they only come to a place one time as it is, so what if the service sucks, they won't be back.
