Thank You very much Hiram Gutierez!!!! I'm a Mechanic but never had done an outomatic trans. myself.(manual only) After watching your videos my Transm. on my Acura Tl 2003 started Slipping and converter burnt. I'm rebuilding it now. Thanks to you!!!! ALL THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you thank you thank you! My transmission just ruined my day but having good information like this makes me feel like I have a chance at fixing it and avoiding getting screwed by a mechanic.
I'm new to the world of transmission rebuilding. Your Honda videos are the best information on these units iv'e seen. Thanks for posting and please KEEP MAKING MORE VIDEOS! If you start making full rebuild videos, let me know where i can buy. Thanks!
Thank you so much for taking the time to make videos and explain so much. When I was young I rebuilt lots of 350 turbos and they always worked. I have had such bad luck with newer tranmission so I have been paying a lot of money to to out source my transmissions. I decided I wanted to tackle my honda Odessy myself but was very nervous. Now after watching you videos I think I figure out a lot of my problems. I am going to buy some bench buddies. With all your tips I am going in confident.
Wish you could help me rebuild my accord 5speed automatic. Your a true genius and om glad there are technicians out there like you. Just wish you were in south florida
thanks so much for your video Hiram. there is no way i could have rebuilt the b7xa transmission without your help. you were correct the pistons were hanging up so i cleaned and honed them with nylon brushes till they moved freely. the clutches in my transmission did not have any wear on them. when i broke it down there was a greasy sludge all over the valve body. i think thats what was causing some of problems to.thanks again you saved me 1600.00 i rebuilt this thing for 400.00
Finally! I've been looking all over for an explanation for my 2005 Honda Pilot P0741 error code (TCC solenoid valve), burning trans fluid, slipping, and trans temperature sensor light.
Very informative video, you definitely know what your talking about, and its really nice to see how clean you have your rebuild area. I hope the rebuild I just bought was rebuilt similar to this process.

Just want to add little info. What would cause the reverse to not want to reverse up a hill? still works on flat ground. Will go so far then I have to shift from reverse to neutral back to reverse to start moving again. Fluid level is fine. No check engine light. Also the car is a 1999 honda accord 2.3l automatic with transmission maxa-2086617. The car has 320xxx miles on it. COuld you do a rebuild video of a transmission like it and show problem areas of that transmission? Thanks for any help your videos are great!!

That is well described. Sonnax suggests tapping into the loop charge with their kit. But I suppose line pressure could be a better approach. The also give a different spring for the tcc piston that is in the v.b. Do you have any experience with that?
Probably gonna be a stupid question, but does the valve falling all the way down into the bore test shown here apply to valve bodies of all transmissions, or just Honda transmissions?
I got a 99 Honda accord ex-L 4door 4cyl 2.3 has 4speed automatic . Its whinning like hell in reverse won't go anywhere and in drive its quick in gear but sometime shifts hard not all time. Is it a bad solenoid fix or a rebuild fix? What's the error ? Its got 203,500 miles
Hi, I'm having trouble with a B7TA I just rebuilt. Trans Delays into into 1st and gets worse when warm. Cleaned all valve bores with bench buddy's. verified sol C and Sol A good. Any ideas where I messed up? Trans came to me in a box.
Hi Hiram I'm take out my transmission aging from 98 accord v6 doing valve body clean and drill a hole lube to converter charge going to do all thing you show me in this video plz also show assembling thanks
First off your working, hands on knowledge of automatic transmissions is staggering. The channel could be called the transmission whisperer. Lol. Thanks for the information I’ve found your page to be invaluable. I have a quick question if you don’t mind.my wife has a 98 Isuzu oasis(Honda odyssey)Ive being cleaning the tranny up,the solenoid screens in particular. the center tube screen on the linear solenoid was completely blocked.i was able to drain the transmission easy enough but when I went to refill I couldn’t locate the fill bolt marked atf on the top of the tranny.i did unscrew a bolt but it looked more like valve of some kind and wasn’t labeled atf ,so I quickly put it back. I’ve heard a few Honda transmissions are filled from the dipstick. If they have a large rubber ring around the stick. I’ve looked and studied to no avail. I filled it from the dipstick and it does ok with a few minor issues. I plan to do three more flushes after driving it some more. I wish I could install an inline filter on the return line from the radiator but it seems there’s not enough room the way this model was configured. I want to say it’s a mdwa model Honda tranny I can check I found the sticker on the transmission. Thanks for any help or information. ✌️
Hi Hiram, Im having transmission problems on my 2002 honda accord automatic transmission(118,000 miles). My transmission slips on the 1st and 2nd gear but the 3rd and 4th gear shift smoothly. The dash does not have a check engine light or a flashing D4 light. Im thinking the transmission is done but just wanted to get another opinion.
amigo im allready subscribe to your channel i really like ur vids and how clear you explaine also i want to know wat is the the wrench number or serial number of that mac torque wrench i really like it plz if u can in box me i really apriciated ...thanks
Hello Hiram, the Acura Tl 2001/02 model not engaging when it get hot. The code i got was P0730 and P1750, is this repairable? please kindly assist. Thank you
my 98 V6 accord has 1st, reverse and 4th. can i just change the fluid and add some additives until i can afford a new one? no one around here will fix it for less than 2 grand and the used ones are insanely priced! i dont know what to do.
Thinking about rebuilding my 2001 Honda Odyssey transmission. The fluid is not burnt. The transmission does not slip. It shifts late from 3rd to 4th and slams into gear 2nd to 3rd after coasting. Any suggestions? Where can i find the right repair manual and rebuild kit?
Lost the reverse cpc valve spring.. trying to find a better quality picture online of how big it is.. I mean the instructions that came in the overhaul kit states the exact dimensions.. Do you know where to get one or have picture of one? I have tons of springs around the shop but am afraid it will be too heavy or too light.. Is that critical on the reverse cpc valve? Will it just shift firmer into reverse if it is a bit on the heavy side? Thanks' for your help. Love your videos man. This is the first honda transmission I've built, totally different from the rest. Having lot's of fun. lol Want to take my time and make sure everything is absolutely right, because I sure do not want to do this one twice!
Ok I just had my transmission rebuild at a we'll recommended shop in Mesa Az , before it was rebuild it would go into neutule when put in to drive, but not all the time ,just very random hot or cold, now still having same thing , have taken back to shop, they drove it for 3days and couldn't get it to do it ,get it back the next day it did it . Do you think it could be preser regulator hanging up ?its a 2004 Honda pilot all wheel drive with 130.000 miles on it
Good Evening Hiram I am having problems with my 99 acura tl transmission. When I put the car on drive it engages the gear and then I hits hard to take the gear but when i just put it in drive in the morning it doesn't do it I was wondering if i can put a video in youtube so you can see what i mean and give me a hint or something
***** would cleaning the trans fix all of this, or do you think its more then that? the drive will slip in 2nd gear, like the first gear is awesome, then when it tries to go into 2nd gear, it seems like it pops into neutral for a second and then you jerk forward once you get into 2nd gear. also reverse most of the time doesn't want to initiate, and 4th gear doesn't seem to want to engage ever. this use to be my buddys van and the transmission was rebuilt or replaced 30-50k miles ago, could this be something like a clogged screen or filter, not allowing adequate trans fluid pressure to the clutch packs? I guess its safe to say the solenoids are good because I don't have drive flashing. What to do? should i buy the Rebuild kit and dive into the transmission replacing everything, or should i open her up and just give her a thorough cleaning? what do you think is causing my issues? I have codes having to do with the torque converter, and another one that say the gear ratio is messed up or wrong. I cant remember the codes #s ... should i buy a new torque converter? thank you
Hiram i have a question. first of all thanks for all the vids, they help a lot. the question. i recently repaired an bx7a and instaled it. when i get fron park to drive velocimeter was on 0 and it dindnt shift. so i took the speed sensors out and the input speed sensor i suppose (the one right next to the oil filler hole) was completly broken, so i took the outlet speed sensor and put it were the other sensor was, my surprise was that the magnet at the end of the sensor (some kinda yellow "pin") was taller that i thought. did i fu*k it up? do i need to uninstall the trans and open it? does that sensor needs something down to make it shorter so it doesnt crash. need a lotta help duxe
I can see what your talking about and how it causes the problem. This would be my first transmission rebuild to the same transmission. How long will it last before I have to rebuild it again
Do you have a video for a 01 Honda Civic 1.7 Automatic complete rebuild? I am fixing to try to do my sons. So far I haven't seen a rebuild for one on here yet. I bought a master rebuild kit.
You have save a lot of people money and time about this type of transmission problem. Your vidoe is kind od bad but you shure explain clearly what is going wrong without losing my attention.
i drill the small hole but i having D4 not engaging, i replace the Torque converter for a rebuilt one, it only engages on D2 and i switch back to D4 while driving it drives OK, but if i stop i need to start from D2, Can you help me please? do i need to adjust the pressure regulator or pressure control valves with the hex bit?, please i need and advice before i put my transmission down again and install a none drilled new converted charge valve body, i didn't have a problem with a previous B7TA that i rebuild few months ago, but this one, Great Videos you have by the way.
It's funny you mention the materials that the lockup timing valve and the lockup control valves are made out of ....and just based on that you would think the aluminum valve would be most likely to hang up versus the valve made out of steel.....yet every transmission i have done....it's always the regulator valve or lockup control valve....and sometimes both.....What do you get more of , burnt out converters or forward gear clutch pack failure?.....and how often do you get these transmissions that fail after being rebuilt? i see alot of failed rebuilt transmissions and the damage is sometimes worse than a factory transmission with 150k on it
+Dis Connected 2nd clutch on the 4 speed, 3rd clutch on the 5 speed. The friction scrapes of from wear sometimes clogging the filter. Also burned torque converter on V6 units. Very rare on the 4 cylinder units. The heavier the vehicle the most common. Like Odessy, Ridgeline and MDX. Some pressure switch failures and very few linear solenoids failure. What else have you seen?
Hey Mr. H. I have a 2008 Honda CR-V and so far the transmission has been running great. I just emptied out the tranny thru the plug , but not totally flushed it. Is that okay just dump what comes out and replace it with fresh fluid ? I have 192,000 miles and I only did that one time..what do you recommend .? Thanks bro" me encanta tu videos informal...
Is it easier to work on a manual or automatic on a personal preference? I have a V6 Mustang auto. I notice it vibrates during a specific speed range I think 40-50 unless you throttle a little more, but there is no slippage. Would this be a transmission problem?
i hve a v6 accord reverse works find wen i put it in drive it has a 3 second delay then takes gear and wen i drive it slips what do you think is the problem cuz all my sensors and good n i already changed the fluid
Hey Hiram! I just rebuilt my first BX7A d with the help of your videos and some other websites. I have a questions for you, I bought a new torque converter for the rebuild and after everything was back in and I test drove it, I am getting a p0740. I checked the ohms on the lock up/shift A solenoids and they are within the spec. I drill the bypass hole in the valve body as you instructed but when I was cleaning up my drill bits,I think I might have used a.060 drill bit instead of a.040.. The car has a delayed shift and the p0740 code. If I accidentally used the wrong bit what would be the results? I tried to check my line pressure but my gauge broke so I ordered a new one today. I will check pressure once I have the new one but don't help would be great, thanks!
I did install the oring, I noticed the group of the o rings in the kit and mass sure I installed it. If I drilled the hole to big will that be a problem? Thanks man, wrenchhead427@yahoo.com if you can reply to me.
No I clean valve body replace clutches I don't know it's working find and when I came home it's not going back and forward in the morning it's ok maybe I have to remove aging I here noise some time when change gears around 45km
Hi Hiram! I have a 2003 Honda Accord transmission that shifts very hard to reverse and doesn't get out of first gear. when taking it to a transmission rebuild shop what are things I need to look for?
Couldn't one theoretically just notch the mating surface instead of drilling, using the drill bit or a same diameter metal rod as a gauge to avoid hogging out too much material, or is there a likelihood of sludge/debris buildup in a notch over time?
Hi hiram ....if my trany is working fine but jumps into neutral and after turning off the car and back on work perfect for a few second s or a few munites ...can that be the converter ..? Am thinking to do a rebuild on it ..my self ..anything i should look into ...its a 1998 civic d16y8
I have a '98 4cyl Accord. This thing has 208K miles and to be honest, I've NEVER done the 30Kmi Transmission fluid replacement not to mention flushing (3x fluid replacement). I'm beginning to have slip issues. I've heard that it can actually be MORE problematic to change fluid if it hasn't been properly maintained (Dislodge gunk and block the filter). Should I even attempt replacing the fluid or just have it taken in for diagnostics?
Here's my 2 cents on your comment. I changed the fluid on my 02 civic with 155K miles and the transmission gave out after driving about 500 miles. So leave it alone and save up for a new tranny.
your trans is hosed, the only thing moving you around is all the friction material that used to be on the clutches is now floating around in the trans. Once you dump the fluid, and resultant crap, the new fluid won't be contaminated and therefore the trans goes full neutral pretty soon their after.
MiamiZombie2012 yep, if you dont' change fluid regularly, then DON'T change it, probably won't last more than 150K. fluid changes are supposed to be 15-30K range.
How's it going! I just finished rebuilding a b7xa with the exact same kit you use. I'm having a issue where forward drives perfect but reverse wont move. When I shift it into reverse the rpms drop and if I hit the gas the engine has a load but it doesn't move at all. It feels like the lock pawl is engaged. I can rock the car back and forth like its in park while in reverse. I pulled the trans again and took all apart and I cant find anything. I put it back in and the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated! !
I drive a 2000 Honda Accord EX.. Hondas Achilles Heel is the transmission : Their aren't enough ports in the tranny to keep the clutches and other components well lubed and cool The reason for that is due to the fact that Honda makes the transmission according to their specs. I live in Texas, the heat here plays havoc on the transmissions. We have 9 months of Summer. With that being said the transmissions have a difficult time staying cool and lubed ,by the time the car reaches K200 miles , the transmission has pretty much had it. The inner components start to break down, the heat doesn't help matters. My Honda mechanic told me that there is a company based out of California who took the Honda transmission and completely redesigned it. They built more ports which would enable more transmission fluid in the chambers therefor allowing more tranny fluid to keep the clutches, gears and other components lubricated and cool .. Price tag $4K
can you share which place sells these reliable transmissions?? i have an odyssey that may need a new one soon. i love this van, but damnit honda why!?!?
bunkerbuster Honda more of racing manufacturer, they make excellent manual transmission, WORST automatic transmission in the industry. if you have automatic tranmission change fluid every 10-15K not with z-1, dw-1 trash!
My 2003 Honda Accord V6 transmission failed at 106000 miles, had it rebuilt and now it occasionally sounds like it grinds when going from park into reverse or reverse to drive. Company that rebuilt it says it will get better after all the after every thing breaks in. Is this true???? transmission did get a new converter. Thanks Chuck
Hola Sr. Hiram termine Con una 01 Honda odesey Ahora no me avanza Adelante o reversa siento como si la tuviera con el freno y el acelerador al mismo tiempo que pude haber armado mal.
I have a 03 Honda accord v6. Recently the transmission started to act up. It first started jurking thru 2nd and third hear and now it just stays at first year. I know this model has some sort of transmission problem....I have also replaced the transmission once due to 2nd gear overheating. From your experience what is the most common cause and can it be fixed at home?
Hi... I change both linier and lock up selinoids after getting codes on my 2000 Honda odyssey. Now it shifts fine...but now my transmission doesn't reverse. Do you know whats causing it?
a new Honda Accord so I'm keeping up with the tune ups , maintenance and taking good car of my car. It runs better than when it was new. My Honda mechanic said I would never have to replace the transmission for my car ever again I haven't done anything major to my car except little things like replacing lightbulbs, fuses and tune up once a year. My car is 14 years old and is in extremely good condition. I would never drive a domestic car except " Jeep " We have a 2011 Jeep Commander and we Love it. :-) If y'all want the name of the company let me know I'll forward the info. I know it's a bit pricey but it beats having to buy a new Honda Accord Honda Girl. :-)
I have a 2004 Acura CL-S with 90k miles on it and i saw that my fluid is dark like brunette color. It shifts it gears hard when i am going high speeds, or when i accelerate fast. I dont know if i should sell it or not. Whst do you think?
I have been working on these units a while. It seems the best rebuilds only go about 80k. It does not matter where you get them, Honda America (with the latest and greatest "tech updates", or a whiz bang rebuilder. They all suck. This is one design that really does not want to keep fixed. New parts get put in. Valve bodies get cleaned and new converters get installed an yet, they all seem to fail 68 to 88k miles with various problems. At least with the 7004r GM trash, the aftermarket came through with a host of fixes and you could build a bulletproof unit. But these honda units self destruct no matter what you do. Although I cannot tell you how many times I have to break out the long handle 3/8" to break loose the 10mm valve body bolts.
can you help me Hiram with one part that I have to replace at gearbox Honda oddysey 2001 B7TA, part missing is a/t clutch pressure control valve a/b assembly. I need one urgently, used. please let me know if you have one on stock. thx
Hi, I have a 2000 Honda accord with the transmission B7XA I rebuild my transmission with all new parts. All my line psi is 120-130. But when I try to drive in reverse it does not move and it does not go in 4 gear, when I put my tester on it gives me 30 psi and drops any ideas why?
senior Hiram i drill mine polish all the bore put up all new orings friction clutches and new steel plates now my tranny shudder when shifting at 2nd gear and 3rd gear at about 35 kph what causing this symtoms?
Odyssey 2000 transmission. I am unable to remove any of the valve caps. I can easily pop off the valve cap clip, but the valve cap only comes out until the innermost step of the valve cap makes contact with the valve body. It will not squeeze through. There is nothing for me to push on, and the valve cap can not be grabbed (unless there is some special tool that I am unaware of. Can anyone help?
Help please. I need to buy a remanufactured automatic transmission for a Honda accord the dealership wants 4200$ . Can you please recommend a company that you trust that sells fully remanufactured automatic
This is a very comprehensive instructional video. Your level of detail is beyond anything that I was able to find in any workshop manual. Thankyou!
Natural born teacher. Very hard to find.
Excellent job!

thank you thank you thank you! My transmission just ruined my day but having good information like this makes me feel like I have a chance at fixing it and avoiding getting screwed by a mechanic.
GOOD DETAILED INFO ON FIXING WHAT REALLY NEEDS FIXING RATHER THAN REPLACING GOOD PARTS IN AN UNNECESSARY REBUILD

Great job! Thank you for taking the time to do the video. It would appear the key is to take your time, keep things clean, and use the proper torque.
Great video. Perfectly explained. Thank you so much.
Great vid. I use the sonnax valve Part #98892-04k. Most of your transmission parts suppliers should have it in stock and its about 22$ permanent fix
Love your teaching videos ! Thank you
Este es un excelente video tutorial, muchas gracias amigo, esto es lo que yo estaba buscando.

will you recommend to install a new torque converter on a B7TA whole rebuild?

It's going hwy 120km no problems what you think sir please advise me thinks
*****
would cleaning the trans fix all of this, or do you think its more then that? the drive will slip in 2nd gear, like the first gear is awesome, then when it tries to go into 2nd gear, it seems like it pops into neutral for a second and then you jerk forward once you get into 2nd gear. also reverse most of the time doesn't want to initiate, and 4th gear doesn't seem to want to engage ever. this use to be my buddys van and the transmission was rebuilt or replaced 30-50k miles ago, could this be something like a clogged screen or filter, not allowing adequate trans fluid pressure to the clutch packs?
By the way where is your shop? I am near Nashville Tenn. Thanks again.
Thank you for your videos. What brand of overhaul kit do you recommend?
Transmaxx
I can see what your talking about and how it causes the problem. This would be my first transmission rebuild to the same transmission. How long will it last before I have to rebuild it again
Thank you for sharing your knowledge : )
you are amazing - like a Doctor - thank you
Do you have a video for a 01 Honda Civic 1.7 Automatic complete rebuild?
After the first video I subscribed, can you do a video on a Honda B90a transmission?
Thanks bro" me encanta tu videos informal...
do you have any video on 92 Honda accord auto trans apx4 rebuilds
Is it easier to work on a manual or automatic on a personal preference? I have a V6 Mustang auto. I notice it vibrates during a specific speed range I think 40-50 unless you throttle a little more, but there is no slippage. Would this be a transmission problem?
engine & trany mounts ?¿?
i hve a v6 accord reverse works find wen i put it in drive it has a 3 second delay then takes gear and wen i drive it slips what do you think is the problem cuz all my sensors and good n i already changed the fluid
Diesel Ramcharger Probably true. I replaced tran fluid and all is fine....so far ;-)
where can i get the valve polishing kit mr hiram
I drive a 2000 Honda Accord EX..
Hondas Achilles Heel is the transmission :
Their aren't enough ports in the tranny to keep the clutches and other components well lubed and cool
The reason for that is due to the fact that Honda makes the transmission according to their specs.
Hey Hiram! Great video! Do you offer repair services in Houston? Would love to talk to you about doing some transmission work on my 2000 TL.
Hey bro I open my transmission aging and have two gears damage one on selector and one on clutch drum side big gears
great videos, God bless.
Thanks Chuck
i was wondering if u can help me, to tell me the "model" of the transmission , i have a 2001 honda accord v6 3.0l automatic thanks
hey hiram i really like your vids. I was wondering if you had any vids on accord baxa/maxa. as i will be attempting my first rebuild.
thany you
how much would it cost to rebuild my b7xa transmission?
What does it mean if it shifts fine when the transmission is cold, but neutralizes when it warms up?
Hola Sr. Hiram termine Con una 01 Honda odesey Ahora no me avanza Adelante o reversa siento como si la tuviera con el freno y el acelerador al mismo tiempo que pude haber armado mal.
How much would you charge to rebuild one of these? I have a 2003 Acura TL. P0730, P0740.
I have a 03 Honda accord v6. Recently the transmission started to act up. It first started jurking thru 2nd and third hear and now it just stays at first year.
I know this model has some sort of transmission problem....I have also replaced the transmission once due to 2nd gear overheating.
From your experience what is the most common cause and can it be fixed at home?
these transmissions are terrible
My Honda mechanic said I would never have to replace the transmission for my car ever again
I haven't done anything major to my car except little things like replacing lightbulbs, fuses and tune up once a year. My car is 14 years old and is in extremely good condition. I would never drive a domestic car except
" Jeep "
We have a 2011 Jeep Commander and we Love it. :-)
If y'all want the name of the company let me know I'll forward the info. I know it's a bit pricey but it beats having to buy a new Honda Accord
Honda Girl. :-)
I have a 2004 Acura CL-S with 90k miles on it and i saw that my fluid is dark like brunette color. It shifts it gears hard when i am going high speeds, or when i accelerate fast. I dont know if i should sell it or not. Whst do you think?
Get rid of it...
But when I try to drive in reverse it does not move and it does not go in 4 gear, when I put my tester on it gives me 30 psi and drops any ideas why?
how about on crv regulator, can you also drill it?
Yes
fallow up question senior Hiram, do you re-used the secondary separating plate even if it is dented a bit by check ball? or you replaced them?
senior Hiram i drill mine polish all the bore put up all new orings friction clutches and new steel plates now my tranny shudder when shifting at 2nd gear and 3rd gear at about 35 kph what causing this symtoms?
Odyssey 2000 transmission. I am unable to remove any of the valve caps. I can easily pop off the valve cap clip, but the valve cap only comes out until the innermost step of the valve cap makes contact with the valve body. It will not squeeze through. There is nothing for me to push on, and the valve cap can not be grabbed (unless there is some special tool that I am unaware of. Can anyone help?
b7ta compatible cars and trans?
