I think this will work good Ian. I did some splits but I used 4 frames of bees and brood so they fill the box real quick. It’s more money but I think feeding them the sucrose is worth it to get them to we’re they need to be.
We did this same technique last year in northern Illinois mid-august with 20 colonies. Since the colonies were broodless we applied the OA vapor. They overwintered fine.
@@decaturridgebees8761 quite large. The former main colony was a single deep with an excluder with a typical hive having at least 2 deep full supers that were removed. After the honey pull we did add a frame of open brood to story number 2 (newly added, drawn comb only) to pull up nurse bees before splitting in two. I don’t have room for more bees or we would have done the same thing this year.
If you had two more weeks of summer they would be a box of bees. My guess is that 50% or more will make it through the winter with your expert care. Good luck.
I'm curious if the queen in the splits is laying more brood than the queens in the 6s ? It's a fun experiment to watch, I hope that we haven't encouraged a wast of money. Would the splits benefit from being the last bees in the shed ? Giving them the most daylight that you can.
Ian you should change all frames in the nest for healthy bee , I know it’s hard on that many colonies. Your nest frames are very dark. Hello from Romania.
@@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog Hello Mr Steppler, what my fellow countryman suggests is that your frames are so old that your bees should be able to live on them, as they are filled with pesticides, varroa killing substances etc. In Romania, it's a capital sin to keep a frame longer than 4-5 years :D. P.S. I was sarcastic ;). Here in Romania we are amazed at the beekeeping across the ocean, out of this world. Keep on going and the best of health !
@@eem8039 It's like bees in the spring. Open feed away from the weaker ones. They will feed and leave the small hives alone so you can work on them. Thinking outside the box.
Its a catch 22 Right now its possible to really beat up on varoa if you have any and if you introduce capped brood you may give them varoa .with the brood
Proper treatments and some brood will do the trick if wintered indoors At least you will have a replacement queen . And yeah , my Romanian fellows overestimate the newly built comb Amitraz is a very unstable substance and the oxalic and formic acids are not a theeat so there are not too many residues in on that old comb Great job as always
I expect to see Saskatraz. Kona and Saskatraz, my favorite bought queens, lay like hell! Great job!!👍👍🐝🐝🐝
I think they will be good. Thanks for experimenting and showing the progress. Pushing the limits provides good education
again, the timely instruction is priceless.
Awesome Ian! Trying same thing, super exciting, thanks for the videos
Amazing, we are doing the same works near Moscow city) from love with Russia!
Great information, Ian. I’m trying this with a couple of my singles. Checking on them today. Good luck to you!

Hello Nice to meet you sir ❤❤❤❤ from cambodia 😍💪👍🔔
They will survive. Just don't work them to death later on with curing syrup. A nuc size colony doesn't need a full-size colony's food reserves.
Ian what is the white powder you put in hives.thank you.Hope to meet you at nahbe
I was wondeing that too...
Whats the powder my friend?
The stress is starting to get real, the leaves are giving a hint of how short the time is. Fingers still crossed....

Hallo. Wystarczyło posypać OA na ramki i varroa umierała? Pozdrawiam
No. It needs to be vaporized or liquefied.
How big were the colonies

I wonder if it would help to start feeding them now? I bet they will do fine if they get heavy.
Senior Ian una preguntita que polbo le pones por ensima .Un saludo de España.👍🐝🐻 un

What's the powder?
Probably Super DFM Strong Microbials
Relax. They will be fine. Tuck them into the warmest corner of your shed and get them out last.
:) lol
Can you keep feeding them in the shed with entrance feeders , to give them some more time.
cheers Ian!
If you have all your honey off, could you open feed away from your yards to reduce the robbing pressure on those colonies?
This will start a robbing frenzy that will destroy the whole yard
