Tell us your experience. How did you cope with the pain? I didn’t even mention people who have extremely fast labors. I can elaborate on that as well!

Well for me, I had a bit of a different labor. Both my kids I wasn’t progressing AT ALL. Had a emergency cesarean with my son due to no fluids left. My daughter was a repeat cesarean and again no progression. Sooo never felt contractions or Braxton-hicks, never dilated or thinned out my cervix. 😂

With my first and third, I had amniotic sacs made of asbestos (or so it seemed) and THEY WOULD NOT BREAK - it was like pushing down on a sack of cement. They had to go in and break the bag before I made any progress. With my second, the bag didn't break until his head emerged, and this set up a tsunami all over the bed.
Numbers 4 and 5 were a walk in the park by comparison.
Personally I don't remember saying anything except "Shut up!" to an intern who was gossiping about something else (this was with #3) and for the rest it was mostly "AAAAAAUUUUURRRRGH!"

I have the same issue with my sacs too. So annoying. I always ask for the 'knitting needle' bc I hate the mess when I push with it still intact. 😊

Haha! Hi, I had extremely fast labors! First one was 3 hours flat, second was 55 minutes. These were both home births with midwives that were five minutes late.... Everything was fine! I was extremely lucid, remember all the details of both still, and I can tell you I definitely said the "poop" thing. But mostly I remember saying to my husband "Catch the baby!" on both occasions just as they crowned. He's awesome! I never consciously pushed. In my case, the fetal ejection reflex was extremely strong and my body just did its thing. I was just along for the ride!

Both of mine, I was induced due to blood pressure and have had long labors "stalled" at 3 cm (27 hours and 40 hours). But then at some point, my body decides it's go time and transitions in less than 30 minutes. With my first- "my body is telling me to push" "we can check you but you were only at 3cm 20 minutes ago" "get the midwife then, because I need to push" *CNW comes in and is getting gloves on* "Hurry, I can't not push" *them looking over at me while still getting gloves on, "oh, it's really coming!" Baby was out before the midwife had her gloves completely on.
Second baby was a longer induction, again it was only about 30 minutes since I had been checked and was still 3cm- (resigned) "ok, maybe we can talk about an epidural now," nurse- "let's get you to the bed and dry off while we discuss it" *I had been laboring in the tub and went to stand up* "nevermind, I think it's time to push" *midwife comes in (knowing my history, didn't even worry about checking me)* "if you think you need to, then let's do this, trust your body" baby was out in less than a minute.
It's definitely hard to not see progress, bur I'm not upset about not being in transition longer... I really want to try to go into labor naturally if I have any more, but also think I might end up being that person who has their baby at home or in the car lol 😂

2nd baby, " I have to poop, so I think it is time."
3rd baby, on the way to the hospital (on Mother's Day) with almost no pain, and not even sure it isn't a false alarm like the day before. Out of nowhere transition hit. We left the car in the parking garage, in front of the doors, running. Yelled at the retired volunteers at the desk to park our car. Got in the elevator after a poky old lady in a wheelchair creeped out. Freaked out the lady that got on with us and the two little kids on the bottom floor when the elevator went down instead of up and just as the door opened I tried to stand up from the wheelchair to see if it would help and then screamed at the top of my lungs. When we got to the right floor, they took one look and ran ahead, opening the security doors. He was a footling breech and out in 8 minutes from my butt hitting the bed. Both of my docs were out of town, and the nurse told the staff doctor, "I've seen it done, I'll talk you through it." God protected us that day, I bled quite a bit, and his shoulder was caught and for a couple of days he couldn't move it. Also, he was very blue for a minute.
Side note that nurse, and the lady across the hall who heard the whole thing, later became friends. One in a homeschool group and the other in breastfeeding peer counselor training for WIC. It was hysterical when we figured out how we knew each other before.

This very morning, I was falling asleep, epidural was doing it’s thing and letting me finally rest, I was just 4.5 centimeters dilated my last check right before this when I suddenly felt pressure in bum, I knew it wasn’t poop. I called my nurse and she checked me again, I went 4-7cms in less than an hour. She walked out for 10 minutes came back and I was now 9 cm! Dr. broke my water, I quickly became 10, pushed for a total of 5 minutes and birthed my 3rd baby. The gender was a total surprise, (it’s a boy!). He weighed 9.5lbs at birth which was totally unexpected, everyone had estimated 7.5 lbs to 8lbs 12oz. Amazing thing was my tearing was very minimal. It honestly was an amazing personal experience for me of being induced, getting the epidural, by far my easiest birth, and post-partum hasn’t been without pain but I actually feel pretty amazing considering. My other 2 births were much harder and complicated but I genuinely enjoyed this last experience, so happy to have my baby out and be on the other side of pregnancy ❤

  • @RaeMama3
    @RaeMama3 5 месяцев назад +23

With my first I had a C-section, but I did labor for 26 hours. When my water broke and the contractions got intense I told my husband, "You better be happy with one because I am never doing this again"
4 years and 9 months later his sister was born 😂 My midwives convinced me it would be best to get an epidural just in case I needed to have a second C-section. My epidural was so heavy that I couldn't move my legs. When she was born I didn't feel a thing and it was wonderful! With my first I pushed for 3 hours before they decided to take him by C-section so when I was having my daughter the midwife kept saying you're close and I said please don't lie to me please (because I had heard that before) and my husband said it's true babe we can see her head.
With my 3rd there was no time for an epidural. My sweet husband said to me babe you're doing so amazing and I told him to shut up. I also dropped about 234 F-bombs and I kept saying I'm so stupid because I waited too long to go to the hospital.
3 very different experiences and now that I have survived them all I can look back fondly on each of them. Each has their own funny and beautiful parts ❤️

The first was a little pain meds in my IV in the hospital. I remember suddenly saying "OMG I'm pushing!" and i guess i was crowning? I think they brought in a mirror an d i was like - i dont want to look at that! (id' been focusing on a spot on teh wall)
2nd was very long labor and at home. My midwife wanted me to use a birth stool but it hurt to sit on it, and i ended up squatting above it. She said "Dont sit on your baby" and i was annoyed lol. SHe was very new to the profession and was supposed to have an older midwife with her but she was at another birth.
last one was super fast. I was making tiny pushes in the car on th way there, on my knees because i couldnt sit. When the midwife came in she tore the bag and then said "Ok now give me a big push' and i cant remember if I said it or was just thinking, are you sure? but i pushed and felt the ring of fire. But my last labor was 2 days and this was under 4 hours! i was still unsure (earlier I had said I dont think I'm in labor, but if I am i think its coming a lot faster than the last one - my 2nd husband was clueless and didnt pick up on that)

I had an epidural placed right before pushing and I never experienced any pressure or poop sensations. I did pass through transition which was super intense and I was screaming and cursing at everyone who tried to touch me. 😂 Anyway before I started pushing I said I am not pushing until my husband is here! I live in Mexico City and here they make the birth partners change into scrubs so needless to say the nurse had to go chase my husband down and hurry him to finish changing and get in the room. Glad I didn't start pushing because as soon as my husband arrived I pushed just two times and my daughter flew right out. I think I kind unintentionally labored down which made pushing much easier.

I couldnt feel a thing because of my epidural. I couldnt feel when to push. I hated it. I had to use a wheel chair for 12 hrs post birth because my left leg was paralyzed from the epidural. My second and last kid I got the epidural too late so it didn't work in time and boy did that ever hurt but I was up walking around 1 hour after giving birth and I could feel when I needed to push during labour. As soon as the baby was out I actually got up and went for a pee unassisted. No nasty epidural paralyzing my legs the second time around. And not having an epidural made my labour go way faster.

I asked for a bedpan because I had the epidural so wasn’t able to safely walk to the bathroom- I was so so sure I had to poop and was just waiting on hands and knees with the bedpan- Nurse checked me and nope it was just a baby starting to come out 😂

Question: When a patient says they are ready for an epidural, yet they are so close to giving birth, do you still give them one??

This was back in 1981, with my second daughter. My doctor had just checked me, and I was at a 5, so he went down to do a hysterectomy. Immediately after that, I threw up and my wonderful nurse said that was SUCH a good sign! I ended up going from 5-10 in 30 minutes, and off we went to the delivery room. They told me not to push because the doctor wasn’t there yet! I told the nurse that she could deliver the baby and she said no, we had to wait for the doctor. After what seemed like forever, the doctor came in and said I could push. But it was SO painful and after a few pushes, I said, “How about I go back to the labor room and we can try this again tomorrow?” Unbelievable!!! I ended up pushing baby out pretty quickly and my tailbone got broken! Anyway, it was my shortest labor and easiest delivery! Now that baby girl has 4 kids of her own!! ❤

Did you mean an episiotomy? A hysterectomy removes the uterus, an episiotomy is a small cut…

I only had the undeniable urge once, to push at the very end, After a couple of hours of pushing. The doctor had just come into the room and was getting ready and they were telling me to wait and not push and I said nope can’t do that, It’s not my choice and I’m pushing so you better get ready.

I Said nothing except: I think I am pushing!“ and the midwife almost couldn‘t believe it and checked me and cervix was open. They tried to Transfer me to another bed but we did not make it because the Head came down with the next contraction which again nobody realized until I said: the baby is coming! And they got ready to catch it 🤣

    My 4 kids birth
My oldest was born during a tornado warning. 23 hour labor Tornado on the ground midwife too focused on tv because it was headed to hospital. He got stuck the nurse jumped on me I screamed a swear word loudly the midwife told me to “shut the f up”
I looked up at my nurse who was saying goodbye at shift change 4 hours prior to his delivery. I told her don’t leave me with this bitch alone. She stayed to help deliver my baby at 11:59pm
When I switched midwife’s for my second oldest it was the same nurse who got her midwife license. 7 hour labor on Christmas in a blizzard.
My third baby was 6 days of labor. He had a lot of problems and I almost died bleeding because my uterus refused to contract when he was out.
4th was 30 minutes from time picocin was introduced and she was out on the bed before the doctor got into the room. I was 6cm when I asked for the epidural not even 10 minutes later she was out. I kept screaming I have to poop and I gotta push. Nurse told me there is no way I was a 10 called me crazy went to check me and there was her head. She runs to get doctor and when they come back in she’s on the bed. I felt like I had whiplash

I bet pushing the baby out is less hurtful than the 7-10. Cos you got something to put the pressure against so to speak. Before the baby gets there...Oh...I don't wanna imagine. I don't want kids, never have. So😅 I'm good with only knowing enough to be able to feel for my cousins and friends when they get their babies 😊

Do you mean some of the things women say when pushing their baby out? As a nurse who a literal job it is to help women giving birth you would think you would simply use the word “women”, since women are the only ones who have to deal with labor.

Transition was the worst until he was far enough down that my butt hurt so bad I couldn't sit comfortably in the tub or find ANY position that made me comfortable, which was right before he started to crown, then pushing became harder than transition. I arrived at the birthing center 7cm dilated, 95% effaced, so already in transition and oh my gosh the amount of times I felt completely defeated and hopeless I would ever get the baby out was crazy. I had an AMAZING support team that wouldn't let me give up and constantly reminded me of my strength and now I'm a little over 72 hours post partum snuggling the most perfect baby boy 🩵

What happened to the word "woman" when discussing female-specific healthcare?

    • @MorganHill-v7z
      @MorganHill-v7z 4 месяца назад

I noticed that too. Instead of saying “things people say to me when about to push their baby out” it should just be “things women say when about to push their baby out” Childbirth is something only women can do and it is extremely hard and can be dangerous. It’s insulting to say others besides women can give birth. Sincerely, a teenage female.
