Hey Chris I was getting a fish and probably gonna get a bowl but after researching and watching a lot of your videos I know have a 10 gallon planted betta tank
When I was a kid I was begging my mom for a dog and she decided to get me a betta instead, it was a beautiful galaxy type betta and I loved him. There was a bowl I put him in that we already had laying around from past fish. I DID EVERYTHING WRONG, didn’t dechlorinate, didn’t cycle, didn’t acclimate, no heater, no filter, and I gave him so much food( the bad brand). I really loved him but I didn’t know anything:( of course he died and I was heartbroken… I then found your channel and had a mental breakdown thinking about how much I tortured this poor betta. Later on I saved up money and got a new betta with all that you taught me I gave this little betta the life I wish I would’ve given to my past betta. She’s been with me for 4 years now and like to think of him as forgiveness to my other one💕 I just wish he could come back so I can show him how much I really loved him Anyways, thank you chris!
I have a petco near me that’s amazing, they take care of fish and take in surrenders, the people there do their best with what their given to take good care of the fish, I once watched an employee talk a young adult into getting a five gallon with a filter and heater for their betta instead of a 1 gall, and they don’t even sell bowls there! The employees basically give new guys, (and interested customers such as myself lol) a crash course on store based aquarium keeping, and how to do things as a keeper, it’s a beautiful thing and they understand when I choose to buy from local stores rather than them, it’s beautifully amazing and heartwarming
@@marleyweirHHS is it possible to have a more annoying, and less creative reply? So the person that sold the Betta didn't bother asking any questions about where it was going to live? I worked in a pet store years ago - everyone got questioned about housing and care and its easy to spot the liars. If the reply was unsatisfactory then we would refuse to sell livestock. The seller in this case needs to accept a degree of responsibility.
Some liars are easier to tell than others if you're bad at sort of thing, I remember asking someone questions and accidentally using leading questions that caused them to give me believable lies, I can definitely see that happening to an underpaid, understaffed, uneducated pet store employee just trying to do their best. I doubt the person who "sold" the bettafish was the actual owner. It was probably just a floor employee or a cashier.
After watching your videos I figured out that betas aren't supposed to be in bowls like I'd put my two previous ones. Now I have a betta fish named mayonnaise in a 10 gallon planted aquarium and I have a 35 gallon for a dojo loach and it is also planted
My coworker's kid won a goldfish from the fair. I commented wow those get really big and she was like nah they grow to the size of their tank. I nearly exploded not going into a tirade about how thats wrong
I just started breeding shrimp in my 25 gallon but everything that could go wrong went wrong there were worms in the tank ph and ammonia levels spiked for no reason so i did a water change treated the water for worms to die got some ottos to eat an leftover food and then last night while having dinner my dad spoted 5 baby shrimp. This was one of the most happiest moments in my fish keeping career.
That is every beginner shrimptank owners dream!!! I remember having a horrible day after going to class in the morning getting some shitty news from my doctor and then having to work nightshift, and when I got home in the evening and saw just two little baby shrimp, smaller than a grain of rice, just chillin on my watersprites. My entire day was just utterly made, it was an amazing feeling. I had been watching the berried mamas for months and when I saw them molt but not babies for two weeks, it was just just a wonderful moment to finally see them. Even one of the momma's was chillin with the two babies. I will never forget that moment.
Its just really exciting seeing little baby shrimp after everything you do make them breed now I am planning to buy more shrimp so that they cross breed and make a lot more variants of shrimp.
Aww I hope those babies all grow up big and strong for ya, though I'm curious what you mean by "worms" since planaria are little kinda arrow headed flatworms that will hurt your shrimp, but there's also some long, thin detritus worms that just eat leftovers and will get eaten by any fish you put in the tank. I'd say hopefully you didn't get planaria prior to treating but since you already did... Now I kinda hope they were so you didn't go full offense on a harmless species since it'd suck if you wasted time and resources. Idk though, I feel like people usually mean planaria though since some detritus worms are pretty small and hard to notice, though knowing you have those in a tank would actually be great in the future since if you have any fish fry... Free food ^^
@@discordiacreates6669 they were detritus but I freaked out even tho they were just harmless but I've heard horror stories about having planaria so I deep cleaned the tank and put in some dewormers and then I added 3 ottos which I got from a cousin(will get 3 more later) and now I am seeing a lot more shrimp babies.
@@epicrebel7965 ah rip the poor worms, but at least the ottos will be fat and happy if you didn't completely wipe them out ^^' though in my experience if you wanna keep detritus worms alive, don't put adult fish in the same tank at all and especially not ottos or corys since they're their number one killer, those fish are a bit overzealous for the wiggly snacks and eat the whole bag in one sitting if they're allowed to lol. Understandable though that you aren't taking any risks since I've heard most shrimp are pretty delicate, though I actually don't know if ottos are compatable with shrimp, maybe, but they may also eat their babies. Hopefully not though, but then again, I've seen the Chinese algae eater being sold as an otto before and I think Chinese algae eaters are actually carnivores? Not certain, flying foxes also sometimes get mixed up as young fish and I don't have any of any of those kinds of fish atm, just remember I've bought the wrong one for a guppy tank years ago and then found out they're aggressive ^^' rip. You probably got the right one though if they're from someone else who's had them for a while so they're probably fine, I just personally don't know as I still occasionally mix two of them up

I realized I am „that one person“ and „fun at every party“, when someone is happy about something (the last one, the shrimp breeding) and you start to explain why is it even not that great. It’s normal variations called Rili and don’t have anything to do with crossbreeding... you can not crossbreed, they turn nature color, you have to stay in their breeded lines... Aaaaaand nobody asked for that advice. Damn it🤣 Sidenote: my favorite own breed is „red blue rili“ light blue in color with red parts like dots, tail head legs or like that. Very cute. But not cross breeded, they just happen, sometimes red shrimp breed into blue ones and you can select them to try to keep that variation.
I was excited to go to my local fish shop beacause the owner is very knowledgeable and he helped me choose out his own fish. But sadly he passed away a couple days ago and I couldn’t work out why. I found out later that he was hiking with his family and suffered a medical episode and fell of a cliff. He fell 100m to his death. I still can’t believe this. He died on my birthday. Rip

If you grab some wood from the wild youll want to make sure its not a type of wood thats toxic to fish (you could make it safe but that would take about 3 months of soaking it). Wood from petstores shouldnt be an issue. Youll also want to boil it to prevent it from floating as much and to sterilize it of any pests or bacteria. Youll also want to get it from somewhere you know doesnt spray pesticides or herbicides.
Yes, in general they are. Some snails can act as a host for parasites, but that's rare and you should be fine with washing your hands afterwards. Usually domesticated snails (not introduced from the wild) won't cause any problems - neither for your fish nor you.
Getting my job last year at my lfs: Now you don’t HAVE to know anything about the fish to get hired Me: Watched every fft video twice so I can educate people on fish.
I think the problem with the big box shop isn't the breeder, but the tanks at the store. The employees will use the same net for every tank. They'll use their hands on dead fish, and just keep working. They don't quarantine the fish, nor do they treat the fish that are sick. They don't pay enough, and overwork their employees. I was in the store, as they were unboxing their shipment. I got a bag of six angelfish. Didn't lose one. But, the angels they already had, had ick. Yet, they were for sale. Their "observation tank" includes discus & African cichlids, with mollies, gourami, and cpds. So, yeah.
6:57 I saw a Betta fish a my LFS and fell in love unfortunately I didn't have a tank ready... Well let's just say that 5 gal in storage was up the next day. Few weeks later it was cycled and ready for a fish and he was STILL THERE! He's living his best life because I didn't impulse by him. :D
I would say the expert Karen, because I might hate them but I could learn something. The other situation is just hopeless frustration on my end... then again you didn't say we had to talk about fish keeping so maybe talking to the beginner about anything else would be best!
Karen is better. Both options will try to lecture you about the "right" way to care for your fish and I'd prefer the one who actually right. My aunt is like option 2 and tells me about how her bowl betta that she feeds once a week and had the shittiest water imaginable is actually better off than all of my tank fish who have waterchanges that aren't just unfiltered tap water. Her fish has finrot and barely moves
I won’t be stuck in the room, I’ll be locking people in it 😈 Btw, thanks for posting fft every Monday!!! While I like the beginning of the week because it is when my productivity is highest, after a long day of whatever it is I may be dealing with outside, it’s always reassuring to know that I will be able to relax a little by watching fft. If it wasn’t for fft, I feel like I’d look like a district attorney who has never slept since (pronoun) was 7 - too uptight, too grumpy, too whatever ridiculous stereotypes that apply to district attorneys. (I don’t mean to be mean to district attorneys, but apparently many people have bad ideas about them. They’re really nice people (most of them anyway) if you give them a chance to show who they really are, just like all pets!) Edit: Opps I made a lot of typos (fft -> ftr) 😅😅
I accidentally put yellow fire and cherry neocaridina mix and shrimp I was told was amano, but it was just dark brown neocaridina. Now half of my shrimps is diarrhea brown, and another half is period red.
Hey Chris I know your probably busy but I’m really interested in buying a Betta and I knew you were the person to go to so in the near future could you please give a video of step by step instructions on how to set a tank up and I know you already did this but could you tell us where you find the product because I’m having trouble finding low budget and efficient equipment. And could you show like all the cleaning, feeding, filter, heater, and explaining ph levels and ammonia levels please. I know this is a huge thing of me to ask and I understand that you can’t do it but please help me thanks for reading this Chris! 😊
Ooooh that question was hard! Think I'd rather be stuck with the Karen at least I can learn something 😅 but I just can't deal with a person that is not willing to learn at all!
Honestly, I kinda hate the look of the first "tank," maybe if there were a lot of large enclosures along a wall, it could look cool, but with it only being narrow passageways, I hate the look, and definitely wouldn't even stock it with guppies.
The Karen. I might learn something new/ many amazing things (since she knows more than me in this scenario). Everything that makes the fish having a better life is good. My pride isn't a priority here.
QOTW definitely b. Also I have friend and we have a fish tank together (180L) , we’ve been cycling it for 3 weeks and this weekend we're putting fish in. Which it great, but he thinks he can put 40 fish in because his favourite fish keeper (md fish tanks) says it ok, it might be fine but I definitely don’t want to over stock it. What do I do?
I don’t understand people I knew basically nothing about fish when I married my wife and in a few weeks I knew enough to cycle her tank properly and keep everything a love the internet exist people
Idk what's with my betta. I had it 5 months ago from a pet shop and it had a discolored spot on its head. It lives in 40-something litre blackwater tank with 100lph filter, heater, 15-ish different plants, eats 5 different foods (2 types of pellets, gamarus, shrimp bits and bloodworms), weekly 50% water changes, dechlorinated, with conditioner (tetra balance?), but the spot seems to only grow in size. What could be wrong?
Might be too big of a food variety. Might want to look into the food spectrum. The “2 types of pellets” is a big red flag. One of those brands of pellets could be the problem. Can you tell me the brands and types of products here? Also 100lph is only 25gph. 10 gallon tanks (or 40 liters) requires a minimum of 40gph and recommends a minimum of 70gph.
I need help, i splurged on all these plants, anubias, java fern, duckweed, blue strictas, and my betta, cosmo, decided " Hm, I'm greedy and always hungry. " He ONLY picks off the new leaves, or the ones that are growing, so all my plants are pretty much dead.
That poor parrot cichlid his whole upper body if filled with ich. Also that shrimp breeding part lol "Cunt Pink" and "asshole green"lol QOTW:Totally the guy that is a beginner who isn't listening cuz I'll just play games with him and sneak tiny facts about fish.
Hi im a beginner and new follower. First of all bars are 🔥✌🏽. Also i stocked my 10 gl with a longtail male betta (Tobi) 6 neon tetra (the Freds) and a mystery snail (Gary). They’re doing great but all my plants and decor are plastic. I really want to switch to live plants with some hard scape. Should i make the change all at once or gradually? Any tips for the dealing with live pants? Also where should i buy my plants?
Little late but I feel like this QOTW has layers... On one hand I feel like it's not that hard to deal with the expert Karen type if they're actually an expert since I could learn some valuable knowledge from them and while I will disagree with their attitude, I can't disagree with their knowledge or likely direction, so I think we could work out a compromise to get through a whole day stuck together. On the other hand... A beginner with little to no knowledge and no desire or motivation to improve or better themself would be a waste of time and energy to deal with, but there's always the chance that they're knowledgable on a different subject we both agree on and we can talk about that instead, it just wouldn't work for either party if we're strictly stuck to the subject of aquaria Of course though... This is assuming we'd even get started talking in the first place because I don't really like speaking lmao, but yeah, I think I'd rather take my chances with the Karen type since both have the possibility of being angered and making for a terrible experience, but one is far less likely to anger since I'd have no problem letting them be, while the other we may have to have a vow of silence to stay outta any fights ^^' and I don't like fights
I want to make one of these fish tunnels with a system to clean it, (probably just a really long pipe cleaner), and set it going along two walls or out the door and into another room...for my Betta. I want my Betta to feel like an actual pet and come greet me when I get home, and follow me around the house 😭
@@formgeben I was thinking of a tunnel system connected to a main ten or twenty gallon tank where he could go chill, but have the option to follow around. I would also want the piping to be wide enough that he could easily turn around with feeling cramped.

I’m sure it probably is. I’ve seen many tanks with bettas and driftwood. If you really wanna be sure though I’d google it
driftwood is great but try sanding down the edges if they are too sharp or go with lumpy bogwood
@@amazingaquaticsandexotics3030 yes indeed!
Youll also want to get it from somewhere you know doesnt spray pesticides or herbicides.
are snails safe in fish tanks i saw somewhere that they have a toxin but im not too sure are they safe to touch? are they safe for fish?
Yes, in general they are. Some snails can act as a host for parasites, but that's rare and you should be fine with washing your hands afterwards. Usually domesticated snails (not introduced from the wild) won't cause any problems - neither for your fish nor you.
Snails are safe in fish tanks, as long as they are aquatic. They mostly are safe to touch, as long as they don't have parasites.
I would stick to snails from reputable LFS, not from the wild or questionable places
my last ftr of the summer!! hopefully i can keep tuning in weekly as i start school tomorow ❤️❤️
oh wow :) summer is already over, where did the time go
@@FishForThought right!!! i cant believe its already september. soon well be seeing autumn leaves and a whole lot of pumpkin spice lattes lol
Everybody's favorite color! Green Apple Splash.
Chris motivated me to make an awesome betta tank cos' there are so many fish abuser with garbage tank.... Thanks Chris, thanks... :D
Getting my job last year at my lfs:
Now you don’t HAVE to know anything about the fish to get hired
Me:
Watched every fft video twice so I can educate people on fish.
Two 5/5 in one video! This one was a banger
One of those tube tanks (amply sized)would be cool with a species of cave fish
I think the problem with the big box shop isn't the breeder, but the tanks at the store. The employees will use the same net for every tank. They'll use their hands on dead fish, and just keep working. They don't quarantine the fish, nor do they treat the fish that are sick. They don't pay enough, and overwork their employees. I was in the store, as they were unboxing their shipment. I got a bag of six angelfish. Didn't lose one. But, the angels they already had, had ick. Yet, they were for sale. Their "observation tank" includes discus & African cichlids, with mollies, gourami, and cpds. So, yeah.
Hi Chris. I love your videos and want you to keep up the amazing work.
ty so much :)
good on you :)
Hope that is upgraded to a 20 gallon or 40 gallon. I have mine in a 100 gallon lol..
Watching this while changing the water on my crayfish tank
I showed my grandma this, she thought it was so funny! Keep on doing good videos Chris! do it for my grandma XD!
I love it, so wholesome, say hi to your grandma for me!
That tank of Mardi42 is AWESOME. :-o
I was not ready for the Justin Trudeau joke. 😂
I love your videos so much! A new FTR was the perfect way to start off my birthday!!
Happy Birthday!!!
kids at chirs house: fishes 🐟 mommy
Repashy: duhh..dezz things again
I love the subliminal slaps!
Completely forgot it was monday until this came out, now going "Whoo, ftr!", but also going "Ugh I have school tomorrow"
bittersweet moment indeed xD
I would say the expert Karen, because I might hate them but I could learn something. The other situation is just hopeless frustration on my end... then again you didn't say we had to talk about fish keeping so maybe talking to the beginner about anything else would be best!
So I think the same about goldfish, on the tube wall but heating the water in the tubes unless the room is heated... cold water fish might be needed
whenever ppl ask me what im watching when ftr is on, i tell em im gettimg my weekly dose of sarcasm
The Stardew Valley Music
Karen is better. Both options will try to lecture you about the "right" way to care for your fish and I'd prefer the one who actually right.
My aunt is like option 2 and tells me about how her bowl betta that she feeds once a week and had the shittiest water imaginable is actually better off than all of my tank fish who have waterchanges that aren't just unfiltered tap water. Her fish has finrot and barely moves
Today i saw a fancy goldfish first time live....the one with strange head... it looked miserable and...didn't swim just floated there
Honestly the first tank would be sick with like live bearers or something this would be sick
Dojo loaches with the goldfish but make the goldfish black moores
10:07 meanwhile my shrimp after I put red rilley and yellow fire together: Windform only
Chris, could you post like 2 FTRs a week? I love them!!
aw man xD ty so much! I might go crazy with it though, but I'll post more clips of FTRs if I can manage to edit more!
OMG NEW EPISODE
Oh
My
Goodness
Well this was interesting
I won’t be stuck in the room, I’ll be locking people in it 😈
Btw, thanks for posting fft every Monday!!!
They’re really nice people (most of them anyway) if you give them a chance to show who they really are, just like all pets!)
Edit: Opps I made a lot of typos (fft -> ftr) 😅😅
aw I'm glad to help!
I accidentally put yellow fire and cherry neocaridina mix and shrimp I was told was amano, but it was just dark brown neocaridina. Now half of my shrimps is diarrhea brown, and another half is period red.
At the time I’m watching this, it is still 4 minutes before Tuesday
I can tell Chris isn't into shrimp - every colour and pattern has a name. 😉
I am not into shrimp THAT much xD I like shrimp in general though
Hey Chris I know your probably busy but I’m really interested in buying a Betta and I knew you were the person to go to so in the near future could you please give a video of step by step instructions on how to set a tank up and I know you already did this but could you tell us where you find the product because I’m having trouble finding low budget and efficient equipment. And could you show like all the cleaning, feeding, filter, heater, and explaining ph levels and ammonia levels please. I know this is a huge thing of me to ask and I understand that you can’t do it but please help me thanks for reading this Chris! 😊
What should I get? (for a 30 gallon tank). German blue ram or peacock gudgeon?
Neither. That would be great for one lucky betta fish.
lol i have too many blue dream shrimp. always moving around
"Asshole Green" could be a new Jolly Ranchers flavor.
Ooooh that question was hard! Think I'd rather be stuck with the Karen at least I can learn something 😅 but I just can't deal with a person that is not willing to learn at all!
The beginner. It would be so rewarding to teach them something.
but they literally don't wanna learn anything xD
40 neon/cardinal tetras or any 1-2 inch fish would be ok for a 47.5 gallon.
New 6,5 gal betta tank is ready.
I don’t understand people I knew basically nothing about fish when I married my wife and in a few weeks I knew enough to cycle her tank properly and keep everything a love the internet exist people
Thought I was watching Professor Lando until I saw the fish
I'm seeing a crocodile skull in the background of the 2nd tank. 😳
My week started with my school not having power.... and them still keeping us with no wifi, electricity, and AC
I got my first fish yesterday and they are glowlight tetras in a 20 gallon long.
that's amazing
Velho aquário é mt caro, ainda vai demorar bastante pra eu ter um, mas vai dar certo...
I swear Chris finds a way to every horrid fish tank every time 💀
Hello you beautiful human! The tank from @Yass90 is one of my favorites ever. So very pretty. I am in love 🥰
Hi, I’m the owner of this tank thank you very much for your comment I appreciate it 🥰
@@yasielsoto4469 You are so welcome!
Chris, will you be the godfather for my betta?
Heck yeah! FTR
I need help, i splurged on all these plants, anubias, java fern, duckweed, blue strictas, and my betta, cosmo, decided " Hm, I'm greedy and always hungry. " He ONLY picks off the new leaves, or the ones that are growing, so all my plants are pretty much dead.
Hey Chris I'm cycling a 20 gal tank. Nice video. QOTW: B
woohoo! exciting :) ty
That poor parrot cichlid his whole upper body if filled with ich. Also that shrimp breeding part lol "Cunt Pink" and "asshole green"lol
QOTW:Totally the guy that is a beginner who isn't listening cuz I'll just play games with him and sneak tiny facts about fish.
LETSGO ANOTHER FTR!
I guess it's best to switch them all at once, but with plants from the same store. Get them at a tank store or a specialized onlineshop.
@@formgeben thanks for the reply ill do that
I’d honestly rather be stuck with the Karen. I can at least learn from them. It would still suck though, lol
true xD
I would choose A
Little late but I feel like this QOTW has layers... A beginner with little to no knowledge and no desire or motivation to improve or better themself would be a waste of time and energy to deal with, but there's always the chance that they're knowledgable on a different subject we both agree on and we can talk about that instead, it just wouldn't work for either party if we're strictly stuck to the subject of aquaria
Of course though...
I have a 14g fish bowl… yes, be amazed! Lol
I want to make one of these fish tunnels with a system to clean it, (probably just a really long pipe cleaner), and set it going along two walls or out the door and into another room...for my Betta. I want my Betta to feel like an actual pet and come greet me when I get home, and follow me around the house 😭
From what I know about Bettas, he wouldn't be happy with this
@@formgeben I was thinking of a tunnel system connected to a main ten or twenty gallon tank where he could go chill, but have the option to follow around. I would also want the piping to be wide enough that he could easily turn around with feeling cramped.
@@ellybanelly3656 Let's see what Chris thinks about that 😀
@@formgeben ?? Bro why you being so antagonistic?
0:55 this would have been so nice is theirs was two 75 gallons under it (add it that their are less goldfish)
yes
