My favourite plant is my spider plant. Because my son grew it at school for Mother’s Day. It looked like a single blade of grass in a pot when he gave it to me. Now it’s massive.
The only thing I do to those I meet with less than ideal aquariums is just show them some pictures and videos of my five full planted deep substrate tanks. I dont tell them their tanks are less tham ideal, I just let them gently see that there is a easy and natural way to keep fish that is wonderful for the fish and the fishkeeper. I will say that the more plants the better, and a deep sand substrate with dirt capped underneath makes things so much easier to grow plants and make the fish happy. A deep sand substrate is also a great natural filter. Great looking tanks everyone and keep those fishy friends close.
It’s hard to pick a favorite. I love my little Hoya curtisii that’s grown from a little two leaf snippet liberated from Home Depot, my big Hoya kerrii that came from a surprise node on a single leaf from the clearance rack, my colorful phalaenopsis orchids, tiny dwarf orchids, my carnivorous plants that devour fungus flies inside and hornets outside, my flashy monstera Thai constellation and ficus Tineke, the indestructible pothos we got from my MIL’s funeral over 20 years ago, and the air plants that started it all.
QOTW: Fiddlewood. It technically grows 35' tall in its natural habitat, but I keep it in a huge pot & it absolutely explodes with scent in early winter that fills the house.
That wasn't even a turtle, it was a tortoise. They can't swim And very true about the lifespan! For anyone interested in getting a long lived pet like a tortoise or a parrot, I would personally recommend that instead of buying one, especially a juvenile, to instead rehome someone else's. There are probably a fair few out there in need of a good home for one reason or another, and this way you get to give them a good home for hopefully the remainder of their life
7:00 this happened to my water wisteria too. I had a bunch of dwarf sag for carpet and boom! the water wisteria just took over the whole tank. it wanted to be a carpet, midground, background and even floater all at once. QOTW: Pothos used to be my favorite houseplant, but that changed after I saw a Monstera start to grow in our front yard. It sprouted just a few months after my mother-in-law tossed a single stem out there!
One of the worst things I have ever done when it came to fish tank care was forgetting to unplug the heater. I left my room and when I came back my god it STANK. It melted my tank 😭😭😭😭😭
A heater is one of the few things that I feel comfortable spending a little more money on for getting one that has a thermostat and a tempature regulator. I have three of the AquaEl metal heaters and they have not failed yet. I have had a couple of cheaper heaters short out and heat the tank up to past 95 degrees before I noticed. I also keep a thermometer in each of my tanks too just to be able to easily check. Remember everyone that consistency is very important to all our tanks and that includes tempature no matter what it's set at.
Purple Passion, it has velvet looking leaves and loves grow lights. They say if you can keep a Purple Passion alive there is a lot of love in your home. Think somebody just made that up.
Don’t be afraid to seek help with your anxiety! Losing your home and pets to a fire is a scary life event. Also, my favorite house plant is a spider plant. They are hardy, pet safe, and grow so many babies.
QOTW: I really like Nerve plants. They're super dramatic so you can easily see when you've forgotten to water it. It pops back up to normal with 30 minutes after watering it.
QotW: Whatever I can get my hands on and convince it to grow! Orchids (finally figured out the trick to getting them to not die on me - Pull plant cup out of container, soak moss, let drain, put back into container, let moss dry out between waterings, approx 1 time per week, depending on humidity) I also have goldfish plant which have pretty dark green glossy leaves and little orange flowers that look like goldfish crackers. It starts out bushy but turns into a trailing plant Christmas/Easter cactus Money Tree that is several years old and most of the branches have died, but there's still a handful left alive and kicking Aloe a moss terarium I randomly put together from collecting a moss covered twig and some moss samples from a little hike out in the woods last spring. Dropped a citrus seed into it to see if it would grow and it did. Now its also sprouting some sort of fern in the last couple of months. the container is very small though so I may need to move it into something bigger or trim back at some point sooner rather than later. Right now, just letting it do its thing. Its basically sealed, have not had to water it at all in months Tradescantia (? - not sure on the name had to look it up) Its a plant that the leaves almost look more like flower petals, bright pinky-purple the more they get sunlight, and they propagate well. When I got it, it was this small bushy little plant that grew very leggy with time, and pushes out runners or stems underground. Still trying to figure out how to get it to grow nice and bushy and not stringy. Very pretty though! I also have a bunch of citrus seedlings, avacados and a date seed I managed to get to grow from grocery store fruits. (None of which are likely to produce edible fruit, but do make lovely houseplants) Herbs too, smell so good.
With orchids, you should also remove that little sponge thing on their roots, it starts to rot. I have a tiny kumquat tree in a 35 cm pot that made a ton of fruits, used up all the nutrients in its soil, and almost died before I got citrus fertilizer.
QOTW: My tradescantia! Her name is the Despot. I declared her the evil overlord of all my other houseplants, talked to her in my first year of university, nearly killed her in my third year because I forgot about this little thing called "direct sunlight", then took the parts that were still alive and planted them separately. So now I have three cloned Despots and I keep 'em in two separate rooms so I don't mess up that badly again. Also because I think a power struggle for control of the evil empire is imminent.
Syngoniums are my favorite shaped leaf. We have a green one that has some white variations in some leafs that came from my husband's grandmother. I took a piece of it and put it in the top of a 3 gallon bowl and now it is crawling over half of the patio and growing out of a few pots. I have least killifish that breed in the roots.
Favorite plant is my grandmother’s Hoya. The vine, grown from a cutting, has glossy dark green leaves and occasionally clusters of white, waxy, incredibly fragrant blossoms. I remember how proud she was of it when I was a small child in the 1960s.
QOTW: I have 40+ houseplants so it’s hard to choose hehe, but I really love my angel wing begonia and my goldfish plant. Oh also my syngonium albo. I only go for low-maintenance plants these days because ever since I set up my fish tank they get rather neglected. 😂
how can any house plant be neglected when we have fish tanks, every water change is feed to my plants 😁 My oldest plant is my angel wing begonia and i love it, have converted many cuttings lately to grow out of a couple of my smaller 25lt tanks - just start them in jars first, the cuttings will drop their leaves at first but once roots start to form the leaves will grow back, my mother plant is aged at 70ish I've had her for 20years - they are all around the house now 😁
I love my snake plant. I put it in my frog's vivarium 3 years ago. After my frog passed in September I took the tank down. The snake plant was the only plant I had the resources to keep alive outside of a terrarium set up. It's doing great! When I got it the longest leaf was about 7 inches. In 3 years the longest leaf has doubled in size
I'm hooked on unusual plants.. Right now it's the Corkscrew Rush .. It's interesting and fun.. Likes ponds and water.. And I'm considering trying it in a tank..
I had a Tango Mandarin Orange tree in my house for a while. It was almost 9 years, but I had to move and it couldn't come with, so I sold it with the house. Not sure it is still alive. I lived in Utah at the time and it wouldn't survive outside so I had it on my balcony when it was warm enough outside and then indoors with grow lights during the colder months. It had a few seasons where I got a lot of little oranges out of it, they were so good.
QOTW. My favorite house plant is orchids. I used to think they were fussy but after I got one, I saw that they thrive on neglect. Forget to water them one week, no problem.
I don't know if it's a houseplant per say but elephant ear plants. They take in SO much carbon because they grow super huge and fast... There is a picture floating around the web of a man climbing inside a fully grown one though and they certainly do not stay house sized for very long in the right conditions... I just really love the umbrella leaf aesthetic though, looks like T0t0r0 would be chillin under them in the rain.
Pothos propagation is stupid easy. Take some cuttings, grab a few bottles or vases filled with water, and drop them in. Let them grow some roots and BAM! Endless supply of pothos. Pop them into your tank and let them grow like weeds. Easiest plants to prop ever. And now someone on TikTok is selling prop drops that apparently work really well. Tempted to order a bottle since my last purchase (a plant pest control product) worked freaking WONDERS on my mealybug problem. We shall see.
The 0 nitrate is probably what was bugging my plants in my 110L/29gallon. Recently I reintroduced my apisto's to the tank and had to move my african butterfly fish out off the 450L/120gal because he was stressed and wouldn't eat. With those 3 bigger fish my nitrates now sit between 10-20 ppm and the plants are already doing better.
i work at a petco that sells fresh and salt and coral. it has been nothing short of a miracle to keep 5000 gallons of animals alive and well. its nuts. our people are very knowledgeable but corporate keeps us from building proper husbandry, its actually kinda depressing sometimes but we do the best we can and the mortality rate is pretty low compared to when i started a year ago.
Bert, the betta who currently resides in my living room, did laps for hours after I took him out of that tiny cup and put him in a 5.5 gallon tank. It makes me feel bad for Ernest B Fish, the betta I had in high school 50 years ago, when I was young and seriously uneducated and thought a little bowl was the ideal environment for him.
Just picked up a variegated sensation peace lily! They are popping up at Homedepot as well. Ontop of being a peace lily (you know, easy af) they have smooth leaves so look distinctly different from the more well known Domino type!
QOTW: I recently started looking into more bio active enclosures for my bearded dragon and soon to be fat tailed gecko. I really have a new appreciation for pothos since they are practically bulletproof and look very nice. Easily my favourite.
Honestly I love hearing pokemon reference from you 😂 Always loved fishkeeping and pokemon, and it's amazing to see someone who's into both instead of just one or the other (especially when it feels like I got some niche hobbies and interests) Some incredible tanks! edit: For that last one, can't even be bothered to fill it all the way up? QOTW: Peace lillies :) I have several for over a decade. Only ever water them when they start looking sad and droopy, haven't had any issues otherwise, even got a few flowers. Super hardy, super low maintenance, nice and simple too
That broken tank is so sad. I had plans to get a 28G lowboy. I had a 10G tank already that I just had on an ikea dresser. I couldn't find a stand for both that wasn't stupid expensive or way too big...So, I asked my dad to built me a 20"x20"x5' stand. So 20" tall, 20" deep, and 5 feet long to fit both tanks. I now have both tanks on said stand, and I have ZERO concern about it not holding up. It's sturdy AF. My dad expected the 28G tank to be a lot bigger than it is, and overbuilt it. Which is fine by me lol.
houseplant: Chlorophytum amaniense 'Fire Flash', Smilax Bridal Creeper (hanging plant), Coleus Black Dragon, and if you like coffee why not Coffea Arabica
I had a 55 gallon with 2 oscars and a pleco. They were all put in the tank at the same size at the same time. They did fine. We only fed the Oscar's small fish. Because they wouldn't eat anything else. Well the oscars got to the size of dinner plates and the pleco didnt stay hidden well enough n i walked out with the pleco tail sticking out of one of the Oscar's mouths. I tried to save him. But it was too late. We found a home for the oscars n then got rid of all of our tank stuff. Although after watching this channel, I really want a planted tank.
I have a couple of fave house plants. 😆 They are, in no particular order: orchids, Christmas cactuses, Jade plants, spider plants, and pothos. Yeah, my house was a jungle before I moved. 😆
I actually got a hate commenter on my first post in r/Aquariums. They were tuning me about how you can't keep a betta in a lid less tank and that I was a fish abuser because of it. First of all there wasn't even a fish in the tank, as it had just finished cycling, second of all precautions were already taken to prevent a betta from jumping out (water 2cm from the top and floaters). I'll never understand how people respond immediately with anger instead of a calm discussion. Ref. "Tuning" is south african slang that basically means calling someone out about what they are doing
Fellow South African here. You should have tuned the fish police to F off. I also have a betta with no lid. Have had him for two months now and not once has he jumped out. Remember opinions are like butt holes….everyone has them…
Wishing all a super wonderfully positive and productive week!! Not to bring politics in to our beloved fishy time, but please young folks, all folks get out there and make your voices heard if you're able to vote in the US. Edit; imagine a jungle planted tank with Triops and aquatic Isopods!! Ahhh, perfection in the most goofball way!! 😊 QotW; my newest fav houseplants are going retro. I have a Sansevieria 'Moonshine' which is cool because it's one of the dwarf type Snake Plants that stays small but the leaves are like this insane green silver and an Aeshynanthus sp. AKA Lipstick Plant that are pretty flipping awesome!! I'm on the search for one of those old Kitschy macrame hanging plant holders for the Lipstick Plant so I have the complete retro 70's look.
I like Philodendron Hederaceum is very versitile and grows in very little light or even pretty much full sunlight. its alot like a pothos but i like how it looks more
Earwig trivia! In several language their name translates to being related to ear piercing, because their butt claws resemble an early ear piercing device
Favorite house plant is a Christmas cactus! Also help my friend wants to put another betta in a 2.5 gallon he was like i had one in there 8 years an I'm just thinking about that one like Chris said its surviving not thriving. Dang I'm bouta disown my friend fr
For the qotw it would be my snake plant, mainly because I haven’t managed to kill it yet. I also recently put pothos in my tank but I highly doubt it will ever be half that magnificent
Theres a semi local fish store near me that has one of those tanks at the end of the video. My kids really like sticking their head in it snd watching the fancy goldfish. Its set at kid height so my experience using it was both physically uncomfortable and overstimating to have 20 water puppies surrounding my head. 💀
Earwigs have the claws to get out thier wings everyone of them has wings but the cant just fly away. They need to use thier claw to get the wings out of thier exoskeleton and make them stay stabel its like a umbrella if the wings wont snap in all the way, if it trys to fly they just bounce back into its body.
I have a question for Fish for thought and possibly other people, what plants are good for axolotls. I’ve heard that axolotls bite and eat plants, and I’m too scared to buy plants for mine, and currently have a piece of smooth driftwood and a couple fake silk plants.
Unrelated fish topic just a share; went to austin this weekend and got 3 dcarlet badis for my 10 gallon so for so good have shrimp in yhere so seeing how yhat goes have heard some people could and some couldn't keep them together had planeria in there but got rid of them saw some scufs and some wrigly white larve looking things dont know what they are for sure have a few ideas but seems badis are eating stuff from ssand.
6:25 People should just stop using these kinds of heaters. Instead of paying $10 pay $20 and get yourself a Hygger 100W mini. It works better, has fine temp control, and has an auto shut off. It's more robust and doesn't explode. Just stop using the crappy tube heaters, people!
My favourite plant is my spider plant. Because my son grew it at school for Mother’s Day. It looked like a single blade of grass in a pot when he gave it to me. Now it’s massive.

Off ill from school with the dreaded Covid, nothing like an FTR to cheer me up. Glad your shrimp are still going 😊
Hope you feel better soon. Make sure to stay hydrated and drink tea with honey, it helps the throat. Mom approved. ✌️
Oh god! I hope you feel better soon. I got it twice somehow, I actually did not think it was around anymore.
Best wishes dude🎉
@@laurabustos6560some whiskey to warm ya up more 😁
how are people still getting Covid in 2024? aren't we all vaccinated 🤨
Fun Fact! Earwigs are called earwigs because they get all up in ears of corn, not human people ears
They can't swim
And very true about the lifespan!
You got incredibly lucky I had one burn me really bad when doing a water change years back remember always unplug before draining
Mine fukin exploded and my tank was left in to pieces (it was a glass heater)
A heater is one of the few things that I feel comfortable spending a little more money on for getting one that has a thermostat and a tempature regulator. I have three of the AquaEl metal heaters and they have not failed yet. I have had a couple of cheaper heaters short out and heat the tank up to past 95 degrees before I noticed. I also keep a thermometer in each of my tanks too just to be able to easily check. Remember everyone that consistency is very important to all our tanks and that includes tempature no matter what it's set at.
@danielingalls8980 awesome thank you
Wait what? You need yo unplug them?
Purple Passion, it has velvet looking leaves and loves grow lights. They say if you can keep a Purple Passion alive there is a lot of love in your home. Think somebody just made that up.
Don’t be afraid to seek help with your anxiety! Losing your home and pets to a fire is a scary life event. Also, my favorite house plant is a spider plant. They are hardy, pet safe, and grow so many babies.
I responded with hi out loud at the start of the video
QOTW: I really like Nerve plants. They're super dramatic so you can easily see when you've forgotten to water it. It pops back up to normal with 30 minutes after watering it.
Favorite houseplant: that climbing Philodendron with heart-shaped leaves :^)
QotW: Whatever I can get my hands on and convince it to grow!
Orchids (finally figured out the trick to getting them to not die on me - Pull plant cup out of container, soak moss, let drain, put back into container, let moss dry out between waterings, approx 1 time per week, depending on humidity)
I also have goldfish plant which have pretty dark green glossy leaves and little orange flowers that look like goldfish crackers. It starts out bushy but turns into a trailing plant
Christmas/Easter cactus
Money Tree that is several years old and most of the branches have died, but there's still a handful left alive and kicking
Aloe
a moss terarium I randomly put together from collecting a moss covered twig and some moss samples from a little hike out in the woods last spring. Dropped a citrus seed into it to see if it would grow and it did. Now its also sprouting some sort of fern in the last couple of months. the container is very small though so I may need to move it into something bigger or trim back at some point sooner rather than later. Right now, just letting it do its thing. Its basically sealed, have not had to water it at all in months
Tradescantia (? - not sure on the name had to look it up) Its a plant that the leaves almost look more like flower petals, bright pinky-purple the more they get sunlight, and they propagate well. When I got it, it was this small bushy little plant that grew very leggy with time, and pushes out runners or stems underground. Still trying to figure out how to get it to grow nice and bushy and not stringy. Very pretty though!
I also have a bunch of citrus seedlings, avacados and a date seed I managed to get to grow from grocery store fruits. (None of which are likely to produce edible fruit, but do make lovely houseplants)
Herbs too, smell so good.
Happy Monday everyone! Great way to start my day…now I’m off to work on my tanks 😊
I woke up really confused this morning wondering why all of my dreams had fishtanks in them. Then it dawned on me, IT'S MONDAY!
@15.05 one of the rocks jumped =D
Syngoniums are my favorite shaped leaf. We have a green one that has some white variations in some leafs that came from my husband's grandmother. I took a piece of it and put it in the top of a 3 gallon bowl and now it is crawling over half of the patio and growing out of a few pots. I have least killifish that breed in the roots.
Keeping it simple w either air plants or this mystery “aloe plant” from Lowe’s had it for years looks very cool still no idea what kind it actually is
Favorite plant is my grandmother’s Hoya.
how can any house plant be neglected when we have fish tanks, every water change is feed to my plants 😁

Lol at the animal crossing music playing for the horseshoe crab looking thing. Very appropriate.
nobody would even notices that that tank was involved in a fire unless he tells us
14:20 the name actually comes from their wings (which are hidden most of the time) resembling ears
I'm hooked on unusual plants.. Right now it's the Corkscrew Rush .. It's interesting and fun.. Likes ponds and water.. And I'm considering trying it in a tank..

my favorite plant at the moment is my fuchsia plant. Easy to propagate, beautiful flowers, gives me tons of new tiny leaves, enjoys being drowned.
Oxalis is definitely my favorite house plant.
QOTW. My favorite house plant is orchids. I used to think they were fussy but after I got one, I saw that they thrive on neglect. Forget to water them one week, no problem.

I just really love the umbrella leaf aesthetic though, looks like T0t0r0 would be chillin under them in the rain.
Some of these planted tanks are fabulous. I need get more plants.
Paludariums and ripariums are so peak. Functionally, aesthetically, QOL-for-your-fish-ly, all of it.
Pothos propagation is stupid easy. Take some cuttings, grab a few bottles or vases filled with water, and drop them in. Let them grow some roots and BAM! Endless supply of pothos. Pop them into your tank and let them grow like weeds. Easiest plants to prop ever.

1:50 that’s crypt spirialis an alternative to vallisneria
I’m so exited I’m getting a few glass belly guppies and I really hope they get along w my neon tetras😭
17:46 there are those chairs that mechanics or gamers have. The "but can you do this" ones.
QOTW: peace lily! my mom got one back in 2019 when i was in hs and it’s still going strong! it’s literally my favorite plant to look at in the house

20 minute FTR les goooo. QOTW: My favorite houseplant is still pothos.
Tropical pitcher plant. I love feeding my plant house flies
20 minutes of ftr!?? praise be the heavens, christmas came early this year🫡
Earwigs got their name from the shape of their wings - they're shaped like a human ear!
I was told it’s because they commonly inhabit ears of corn
Good news every body!
I just got some pygmy cori-doras last week!!
So cute
I'm in love with my blue agave 💖 It's the first plant I've kept in years and it's my baby
QOTW: I recently started looking into more bio active enclosures for my bearded dragon and soon to be fat tailed gecko. I really have a new appreciation for pothos since they are practically bulletproof and look very nice. Easily my favourite.

Although after watching this channel, I really want a planted tank.
I have a couple of fave house plants. 😆 They are, in no particular order: orchids, Christmas cactuses, Jade plants, spider plants, and pothos. Yeah, my house was a jungle before I moved. 😆
My favourite houseplant is colocasia black magic and I finally got one to grow in my aquarium
Qotw, my favorite house plant is pothos. So many different types, low maintenance, grows great in dirt or water.
" nice guys finish last"...damn im old lol
HELLO CHRIS!!
QOTA: Mine are money plants. I just like them. Idk if there are any new houseplants in trend but i love my money plant.
QOTW - I know it's common, but it's gotta be pathos, just because I can keep it alive. Heck, I got it growing underwater in one of my fish tanks.
Remember opinions are like butt holes….everyone has them…
2:30 from the breeder to the store to the bowl to the TANK
From the windows to the walls….
Got my morning coffee in my hand and its a Monday! Time for FTR!
9:00 Ozzy rainbows... I now aware... Are extremely vague term now .. dang I just got yellow rainbow from my local creek..
QotW; my newest fav houseplants are going retro.
I like Philodendron Hederaceum is very versitile and grows in very little light or even pretty much full sunlight. its alot like a pothos but i like how it looks more
i love this channel, you inspired me to get my own fish tank 💚💚💚
boosting that algorithm
Qotw: "It had better be Pothos," says the 100+ feet of pothos in my house....
FFT before work goes hard af 😤
I love your tanks as always *fish bump
Earwig trivia! In several language their name translates to being related to ear piercing, because their butt claws resemble an early ear piercing device
One thing I learned about being a fish tank owner
Plants don't grow fast enough
Favorite house plant is a Christmas cactus! Also help my friend wants to put another betta in a 2.5 gallon he was like i had one in there 8 years an I'm just thinking about that one like Chris said its surviving not thriving. Dang I'm bouta disown my friend fr
For the qotw it would be my snake plant, mainly because I haven’t managed to kill it yet. I also recently put pothos in my tank but I highly doubt it will ever be half that magnificent

I like snake plants and the classic pothos!
Earwigs are called that because their pincers can pinch onto your ear and they become earrings.
@17:38 that's for cats to enjoy not humans =)
MY favorite is my Philodendron Golden Dragon.
But i also enjoy my Epipremnum Albo.
And my Manjula Pothos
Tyme is my fav plant. It smells good.
Theres a semi local fish store near me that has one of those tanks at the end of the video. My kids really like sticking their head in it snd watching the fancy goldfish. Its set at kid height so my experience using it was both physically uncomfortable and overstimating to have 20 water puppies surrounding my head. 💀
I love Alocasia! just forget them and they bloom
Earwigs have ear shaped wings that fold up they are Beatles I hate them too but that is why they are called that
This video cured my tank's ich
My favorite houseplant is ether the ponytail palm or my hedgehog cactus
aquarium heaters by michael bay?
sounds thrilling
QOTW: My Bird's Nest Fern is my favorite house plant
I have a question for Fish for thought and possibly other people, what plants are good for axolotls. I’ve heard that axolotls bite and eat plants, and I’m too scared to buy plants for mine, and currently have a piece of smooth driftwood and a couple fake silk plants.
If i really have to choose.... It shall be Syngonium.
My favourite house plant is pothos
Peperomia caperata,.one of the crimson ones
Could be wrong but I think that’s a box turtle 15:39
you can't kill spider plants... but the cats eat them, so they're relegated to the breezeway...
My first "tank" was a KOI FISHBOWL 💀 now i have two aquariums One is a turtle aquarium and a betta fish one 😅
Omg twice in a row?!!!??
i thought he would whip out the (laptop on bucket) setup in the intro..
6:25 People should just stop using these kinds of heaters. Instead of paying $10 pay $20 and get yourself a Hygger 100W mini. It works better, has fine temp control, and has an auto shut off. It's more robust and doesn't explode. Just stop using the crappy tube heaters, people!
