Funny thing is: That was the exact purpose of this intro. The show aired at night in Japan so Satoshi Kon made the intro to wake people up and the ending to put them to sleep
the only anime i've ever been able to get my mom to watch. i showed her the first three episodes and then the next day she calls me and asks to see more of it and that she couldn't stop thinking about it. she still talks about it years later. such an incredibly special experience, i feel grateful to have lived on the same planet as satoshi kon for a while.
I think they were just laughing to avoid their problems in this case. Definitely not burdenless and the smiles aren't genuine. Exact opposite of the meaning of the show.
The start hits me hard as well as she is standing at the top of the building with her shoes off. (when i watched this back in the day i had no idea what a lot of japan tells were)
It is one of the eeriest openings to any film, show, or work of fiction that I have ever seen, especially the very first shot of Tsukiko standing at the top of the building holding her shoes as if ready to jump with that huge grin on her face.
Literally one of THE most underrated animes of all time ✨👍✨ i loved watching this over and over. The purpose of the whole anime was actually pretty deep lol
@@georgecastanza6712 I do not remember what happens in the anime and I probably will rewatch it today or something. But I do definitely agree that fear will change you. I was always afraid of my parents and eventually that fear transformed me so that I would not communicate my feelings enough or learn the importance of doing so. Eventually that leads to my parents only getting worse over time rather than realizing that I have not become the worse person they thought I was. This also was a huge barrier to socializing in general, which kept me trapped in many problems.
Dang, how are you referencing that a year ago? That was something people said like 7 years ago, but it is a timeless statement even if the source does not match that well for my mental image.
I watched this anime being in a terrible fever from a flu 5 yrs ago and it was definitely the most terrifying experience I’ve had with any piece of media. I don’t know if I remember it accurately though but I still feel icky when thinking about it
I remember watching this back in the day when it aired in the US. The opening always freaked me out. Especially the lady under water in 00:16 to 00:18. I'm actually watching it again. Still freaks me out.
This shit is the type of shit I see in my dreams (I wasn’t asleep and was actually standing in the middle of the road and see a car’s headlights and see my life flashing before my (I’ve apparently seen everyone in this op))
i remember staying the night at my grandparents house about 6 years ago and i remember this came on once and its been stuck in my head until i found this video
what trips me out the most about this opener is the off-putting symbolism with actions of the characters. -- standing on the ledge of a slippery building in nasty rain, standing in the middle of a street with pending traffic, or on a radio tower behind an atom bomb, standing in garbage or debris, or the tip top of a summit with minimal clothing, standing underwater, or through a passing flood, dropping from the sky or standing atop a table, the message is clear-- this is not normal behavior, but our characters all laugh and pretend that everything is fine, which cues little slugger to send them out of orbit-- explaining more uncanniness as the old man on the moon (symbolism for higher knowledge) provokes the unnormal behavior as nobody could survive without oxygen on the moon. the ending finally summarizes where it all began, with the main character's cartoon puppy creation which is another vital key to the story's plot. edit: that is the ending where the puppy brings it full circle; overlooked lil slugger as the last laugh in intro
i didnt fully get it, just that whatever the result after the = refered to a victim of the shounen bat, like the episode where the little kid from school named ichi was attacked, the old man wrote =1, which in japanese 1 is spelled ichi
La primera parte me da miedo porque parece que estan en la automoricion o desastre pero riendose. Con el tiempo le encontre otro significado y ya no me aterra

Hate it when that happens

Oh yeah, this is exactly what happened to me!
A very unsettling show that always has you feeling that something is off and doesn't slit right
i absolutely love it when shows do that
It's like there's nothing actually creepy about the plot but like..it just feels weird..
"doesn't slit right"

When the burdened becomes burdenless, the most genuine smile is the last thing they will ever make in this world
Where is this quote from?
genuinely deep thought

One my favourite anime OPs ever, it hits you right from the start with the uncanny and delirious tone of the show.
You hit the nail on the head
Exactly. At the start it just made me feel uncomfortable but as each episode passed it made more and more sense, it really fits the show perfectly
The start hits me hard as well as she is standing at the top of the building with her shoes off. (when i watched this back in the day i had no idea what a lot of japan tells were)

Susumu Hirasawa is a fucking GOD[one of the best on Japan and the entire world] when composing soundtracks, holy shit.
Soulless, these laughter’s are soulless. It’s so unnerving
There trying to laugh their problems, anxiety and paranoia away.
Such an amazing series, Satoshi Kon never disappoints. RIP.
Also yet another banger from master Hirasawa.
This anime is a masterpiece and I don't say that lightly
Wow, you got the whole squad laughin'!

Fr. It is trippy Satoshi
this opening video and song is basically 2020 on a nutshell.
It is a great video and song.
Such a beautiful song for such a sad anime
I can't believe it's gonna be 6 years since I watched this masterpiece already...
Am I the only one who finds this song calming?
No, I feel the same

Song calming but the visual maybe not so much.
This opening confused the hell outta me

Rain, flood, drowning, bomb, destroyed city, trash, destroyed home, nuke and the few safe places from tragedy. That’s what I saw.

It use to creep me out when I was a kid but now it makes me laugh
Laught at it, or with them?
It’s still a bit disconcerting
It should make you laugh. That's the point in the end. Laughing at Shonen Bat takes away his power.
It doesn't make me laugh but the surrealist aspect blows my mind
