You mentioned that Gottlieb used a pop bumper board with System 3. That's one way to implement a one-shot pop bumper but Bally and Stern were doing it in software on all their solid state pinballs, from 1976 through 1983 and probably after that too.

Ray and the voice behind the camera are awesome! I found myself mesmerized and engrossed watching you all (including John) describe the functionality and problems usually found in a Pop Bumper! I don't know if there is another channel like yours geared for the Coin Operated Game audience, but finding yours today was sheer joy!
I am certain I'll comment on some of your other shows as Pinball Machines have been both my passion as a player and source of income from 1969 to 1986. I opened the first pinball arcade in Ann Arbor Michigan with only 10 electromagnetic machines.
Pinball machines were illegal then, considered gambling devices from the Pre-flipper era. (Lot more to the story)...
I learned to repair all my games (opened several more arcades) and loved being a mechanic! However, as much as I thought I was a great electromechanical repair professional, knowing how to diagnose some problems just by listening, and writing articles for Playmeter magazine, my skill set and knowledge of pins is an entire level lower than you guys!! You are awesome!
Being retired from the coin-op business now, your information and banter back and forth is very entertaining to me! Many people may not understand, but they never spent over a decade in dark smokey rooms filled with rock and roll music, bells and chimes, trouble shooting these games.
If possible someday I would enjoy stopping by your shop / store and meeting your team!
I noticed that you may have shot your last program. Too Bad! The good news is that I can watch over 30 more! - Norm

Who is John? Thanks Norm. We appreciate your detailed comment! "Shot our last program?" How many times has that happened around here. If you just found us today, you've got plenty of material to gawk at to get caught up! Enjoy & thanks!

The Orbiter you discuss, with the radial slingshot. You mentioned that this was the only game with this "3rd type of jet". World Cup Soccer has something very similar, with a rubber soccer ball dome that spins when the goalie is moving. You can shoot from the left flipper and bounce off the left side of the ball, and it slingshots it at the goalie. Also, the ball save on the left drain lane will shoot up to the ball, shooting off and scoring a goal, if the conditions are right. It is a unique feature that is not seen often.

Have you seen the PBR GTB skirts that have the activator pin too long ? There is a post on pinside where a member mentions the pin is about 1/16" too long. This causes the pin to get on the flat edge around the spoon dish, thereby locking the pop bumper on, thusly locking on the pop bumper coil.
I have this happening right now, on Super Soccer EM. No adjustment of the spoon switch location would provide a position where the activator pin did not get atop the spoon flattened ring area.
15:50 in your video alludes to necessity of centering the pin in the spoon.
The skirt I have is a new part from PBR, two other pop bumpers work perfectly. This left one, no joy...
The pinside poster mentions nipping the tip of the skirt pin, then flame rounding it, then centering/adjusting.
My spoon switch dish is clean and polished, and re-centered.
Pin worst than Orbiter? 4 Aces.

I have a DE tales from the crypt... when i got it the bumpers were so out of adjustment that the skirt could jam inside the base. was stuck when i got it and stuck a few more times before i cured it,... so DE must have some protection too.

Even though it's not a true pinball machine but it does count.
Rapid fire doesn't have pop bumpers.

Williams made their pops and slings CPU controlled around '87/'88 (cyclone/banzai run era). Data East took a while longer..... 1990-ish.

I'm still confused ;-;. Hi. A year has passed since I needed help with my bumper fiasco. Can I get a link to a few bumpers I can get pre assembled? Ones that I can plug right into the power supply? I really need this. I failed at the pinball machine I was building, I want to try again. I'm determined to get those bumpers and a counter. I need help. I don't know circuits and wires very well, so explain like I have no idea what a pinball machine is.

I need to buy a couple, can you give me a link to buy some pre assembled ones? Or can you give me a list of things to buy to assemble a bumper? I'm working on a wooden pinball machine at my school, and I need a few bumpers. I'm new to all this so, explain it so that it isn't too complicated. I'm like 12, and I really want to make a good wooden pinball machine. Thank you, please help I'm confused :(

+GRC Pinball Official mostly, it's the electronics. I need to know how to hook it to a counter ( I also need a link to that ). I also need to know if I can just get it and attach it to my wood board, and if I need anything additional to make it work, and I don't know if I just need to put it there and leave it there as it does its work. It will be the only electrical part (other than the small LED lights around, which I will separately apply power to.) in the machine. All the flippers, side triangle bumpers will use rubber bands, so no electricity needed there. I won't have sound either. Thank you for sending the link!
P.S. I'm trying to explain it the best I can. :/ sorry if I confuse you, I've never done this stuff before, and this will be one of the only chances I'll get at making one mostly for free (because I'm going to build it at my middle school's wood shop class)
