I'm a 65 year old man, grew up to the likes of this song. I only stumbled across this version a few years ago. I cannot convey the amount of joy I get from the reactions.
Thanks for your sincere, heartfelt, and emotional reaction. This is one of the most iconic songs of the 60's and has remained a classic through all the ensuing decades. Your reaction has brought joy to those, like me, who experienced it as youngsters like you.
@@jamiesexius7602 Absolutely! I graduated from high school in 1969 and slow danced to this song. I can’t stop watching reaction videos. Yours touches me the most! ❤️🙏💔🕊️❤️🩹🙏❤️🙌🏼❤️🔥 You are a sweetheart with an enormous heart and soul. I love the way the Lord created you. You are lovely.
Dear Jam Jam Reactions, imagine that from 1992 to 2018 I was able to listen to this piece live and, along with the audience, soak up the energy of this work and admire the voice of Gary Brooker. There were different concerts, many versions great or ordinary, but always standing and breathless. I would also add that the 2006 version is simply brilliant. Brooker's vocals are knockout and show, as sci-fi writer Douglas Adams once said about Brooker's voice, that people underestimate what a gem they have.
indeed, I know the song also from back then, even though it has not tremendously impacted on me - but (now as I have had also a thorough musical education (even harpsichord) - I am really struck by this performance; his voice is way better too than back in the 1960s and this version is beyond superb (mostly it is the other way around). And even me, beyond 60 years old, I get tears every time I hear it... true art never leaves you untouched or indifferent
The soundtrack of my youth - I turned 16 in 1967. It is Denmark - and it still happens every summer at the parks in the cities or at a castle as here. Nothing "happens" - and the audience has food and wine and furniture from their gardens - - sad that it isn't a possibility where you live.
He was a very young man when he wrote this song as I was. I've enjoyed his band my whole life. Powerful Masterful Performer's!! Great reaction little lady ;~} ☺️
This song was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The original is longer and was a huge hit in the 60's. I have always loved this song and Gary Broker's voice aged like fine wine. Unfortunately Gary died in Feb 2022 from cancer. RIP
This is an epic song from what is the soundtrack of my life.... Symphonic rock was part of the Progressive Rock movement from the late 60's that came and went until the 1980's. The Moody Blues also are worth a listen. Knights in White Satin was their magnum opus.
I first heard this song in the late 60's, and it was very moving back then. This version is superb, and it's so good to see that it still has that same impact on your generation. Thanks for sharing your reaction with us.
Beautiful reaction to a remade classic from the late 60s! The band is called Procul Harum (Pro-cull Hair-rum) and the guy singing is Gary Brooker who sadly passed away in February 2022. The Denmark National Symphony Orchestra brought this song to an entirely different level!
How awesome it must be to be able with just your voice touch people so profoundly. I've never really been able to sing that well that I enjoy singing and I would just love to think that my voice could profoundly affect someone that way. And I have yet to really figure out why this song touches such an emotional string with so many people.
Possibly the best reaction video on RUclips. Brooker and his bandmate who put the lyrics to the music are heart and soul inside of me for this achievement of theirs, as seems to be the case with you. Simply unforgettable.
We appreciate you for being so real and sharing your experience with us. I saw them twice in the 70s and the shows were magical. Gary Brooker had such a unique and powerful voice and I was sad the day he passed away. Music during the 60s 70s and 80s took you on a journey thru the music and brought you back feeling so much better. The talent back then was true talent not some computer generated track with no real soul. I miss those days tremendously. Music is just not the same these days. Thanks again for posting, you have a beautiful soul and I wish you the best.
Watching...its when his voice comes on...the reactions are incredible!!! Welcome to Procal Haram....Gary Brooker...pure awe pure talent. This was one of the first albums I bought when I was 10 or 11.
I still remember being transported to places I'd never been before when I first heard this song in 1967 as a school boy. Have not stopped listening to Procol Harum ever since and have all their albums and dvd's. I have seen them live 8 times (5 with orchestra) and it would have been more if not for Gary's passing last February. It was good to see you appreciate what you had seen for the first time and reminded me of the first hearing I had so vert long ago.
I’m so amazed that so many (American) reactors haven’t heard this song before, even my 19 yo daughter know this very well. Gary’s voice was a part of my soul during childhood and early teens, RIP Gary.😢
You've got to take into account the younger American reactors parents were, more than likely, born in the late seventies/early eighties and didn't listen to "classic rock" as it's called.
This American heard A Whiter Shade Of Pale In 1967. After the initial buzz of AWSOP it was mainly American concerts and album sales that enabled the band to survive when they were virtually ignored in their home country.
AwSoP is brutaly beautiful.Played by a criminal underrated Band.Sir Gary Brooker(the singer)was 60 years in 2006.Amazing!Your reaction is brutaly genuin.I love you,I heard you say.I love you for that.If you like,go to PH:"A Salty Dog" from the same Concert as above.Excuse my English(I`m from Denmark). Thanks!

The Danish National Orchestra should be applauded hear, they are at the top of their game, check out the good the bad and the ugly, Garry Broker never lost his voice with age, the whole performance was perfect, thanks for your reaction

the lyrics contain a considerable amount of period context. in this case psycodelic way. Mixed emotions than one used to feel on the occasion of a first meeting between a boy and a girl. nervousness expectations, shame, desire to be reciprocated. I don't know if it's still like that today... but at that time it was exactly how we felt. the music brings all these sensations back to those who lived and was young in that time. Thx Procol thx Johan sebastian bach! Because without the "air G string" this one would not be possible to exist.
This is what great music is supposed to do. To move you in ways you can barely desctibe. BTW, now go read the Canterbury tales and here about the Miller as he told his tale....
stephen - was it originally written for the organ and then adapted to to strings or vice versa or as one piece , i looked up its history but it wasn't clear as to which came first
Original organist Matthew Fisher was inspired by Bach’s Sleepers Awake but his melody is original. This was confirmed by a British judge who was also a trained classical musician when Matthew sued Gary for a share of the compositional royalties. A Court of Appeals agreed and so did the House of Lords.
The tune is based on an organ suite composed by Johan Sebastian Bach in the 1660s. The orchestra opens with Bach's composition. Gary Brooker's (RIP 2022!) vocal was superb. Both the original (Bach) and PH's adaptation are, individually and together, one of the most beautiful tunes ever composed! Be sure to watch PH's original 1967 version here ruclips.net/video/ym8sVFBgJMc/видео.html
If you listen to the Bach piece, there is very little similar--the descending chord progression. The melody is completely original. Also the opening orchestral overture is an arrangement by Gary Brooker. It is not classical, just sounds that way.

I have watched this a hundred times -- it is amazing -- very glad you're showing it; i find it extremely emotional & cry every time i hear it. What you said is so true that things have changed & we are unable to do simple things that we were once able to enjoy -- i know this all too well because i grew up in the early '50's & have seen tremendous changes -- unfortunately, more bad than good & miss tremendously the freedoms we have lost due to those not-so-good changes. On a more upbeat note, how about some Chuck Berry w-Etta James at ruclips.net/video/6U4x9mQ5K0s/видео.html doing "Rock and Roll Music (1986)." Terrific performance. Thank you so much.
Also this band was very dedicated to God. The pale horse represents death and the white horse represents The Word of God, which is Jesus and Jesus conquered death. It should be called Toll the Rick. Your reaction was beautiful.
I am 80 years old and I still cry EVERY time I hear this song. I am not sure why…
