wow kind of legit what I'm going through I'm an undergrad in psychology and have a deep fascination for neuropsychology or neuroscience and I'm a senior when he says he never explored the idea of med school. I'm going through all of these similar emotions.
Great video, thanks for uploading this I studied psychology myself and ever since my final year (which was five years ago), I have been toying with the idea of graduate entry medicine and I am thinking it is a route I would like to go down. The only thing is I don’t have any relevant work experience yet so that is something I need to get and then it will also help me to see if this is something I really want to do I really enjoyed hearing the responses in this video :)
Im also a psychology graduate studying at the University of Leeds. I have also intercalated and done a Masters in Biomedical/Healthcare Ethics. Your story is very similar to mine :)
Thank youuuu! I love your channel so much, your videos are super informative. Content like this helps get me and others just that little bit closer to our dreams.
Hi. Thank you for this video. I find it at a time when i have decided to switch to a more medical career. I was researching medicine vs nursing. I too enjoyed the clinical and biological modules and now i want more of it. I am looking for universities in Southern Africa and UK that allow the switch from Psychology (2.1) to medicine.
I just graduated in psychology with a 2:1 I am taking a gap year.... my disertation was neurobased studying memory and honestly anything bio and neuro based is what I have advanced in it’s what I think I want to go into but .... I was intending to do a masters and maybe a phd after that, cause of the idea of doctoring in that field and possibly having my own clinic someday (I knwo... daydream) next year but a bit confused is better to go medical school to study medicine then phd. Based on opportunity what would you recommend. Honestly I’m a bit confused. It’s many years of study ☹️.... I couldn’t afford it and needed a mental break before applying for next year and figure out what I want to do
I think the reasonably advice to suggest is that if you want to run your own clinics, you'll need to be in a clinical role of some sort - which could be a PA, nurse or doctor etc. Ultimately the medical degree would allow you the maximum autonomy and decision making ability for patients. If you want a more academic/research focused career, the PhD is likely a better choice, it depends what your ultimate priority is
We do indeed get a summer! I'm free until the middle of September, using the time to relax and get as much project work done as I can now that I have a bit more time to make videos!
Amazing video! I'm currently in my final year of Psychology before moving onto my masters and was wondering how extensively you needed to study for the UCAT exams. Any help would be appreciated :)
Another great video, very informative! 😊Do you know of any Warwick med students that have previously completed a pharmacy (Mpharm) degree? Im in my second year now and i'm very keen to apply to Warwick in the future.
I was diagnosed of HIV in 2015, i have tried everything possible in life from one doctor to another, one hospital to another, series of tests different kinds of medication i had already lost hope until i meet Great DR Irosi online testimonies, a specialist in herbal medication from Africa, i contacted him true his email, And he told me what to do so I can get cured, of which I did and he prepared HIV herbal medication for me which i took for 14days and now i am completely cured i want to use this medium to express my gratitude to him for saving my life and curing me from HIV disease, for taking away all my pains and sorrows, I''m indeed grateful and i am so happy I''m now cured totally, I will continue to tell the good news of your great works to everyone, if you have HIV or other disease contact him true his Email via: (drirosisolutioncenter@gmail.com) Or WhatsApp him via +2348118829771 thank you my great DR Irosi for curing me keep up your great work.
Not that degree specifically I'm afraid, but there are people who have done pharmacy (MPharm) and medical pharmacology, which sound really similar to yours :) I have an interview with the pharmacist coming soon so keep your eyes peeled for that!
Hi Ed can I ask if you have my same impression by studying biomedical things? I'm enrolled in my final year in the applied cognitive psychology master and I'm contemporary studying also for being admitted to the faculty of medicine in Italy. I don't know but for me the feeling of studying psychology is much more complicate than biological facts. This because in the former case there is less material to know but you've got to go in the depth for the many interpretation and manifestation that a behavioural phenomenon could have in reality. Have you got the same impression in terms of learning?
Hi Chloe, good question! I'm fortunate to have a partner who's very understanding and knew of my ambition all along, and so was very supportive of me heading off for a year. She wasn't too far away (about 2 hours) so we made sure we saw each other once every 2 or 3 weeks and spoke daily via WhatsApp. She found it a little tough to acclimatise to begin with, but I made sure to introduce her to my colleagues and housemates as quickly as I could, and tried to keep her as involved as possible! We now live together which has helped, but it's definitely very doable (and probably healthy!) as it gives you something completely removed from the stress of being a medical student! Did that help answer your question?
Hello. Quick q when you're free.... I'm in the same situation as you. I'm doing a BSc Psychology at the University of Liverpool. Loving the Cognitive, Biological Psychology modules and Biology. Can I ask is medicine funded by the NHS regardless of us already completing a degree?
Hi Jordan, just to answer your question - the course is funded for 4 year graduate entry medicine (GEM) programmes, all apart from the first £3300 of your tuition fees in the first year only. 5 year programmes (usually labelled A100) are not funded as a second degree and must be paid for by some alternative means
A masters is not necessary for GEM, however some medical schools with a 2:1 standard requirement will accept a 2:2 with a masters (not sure if this applies to warwick, you can see individual requirements on Medentry and double-check on the unis' own entry requirements pages)
A BSc in psychology is science based but a BA isnt. It's not a 'life science' however. You can do a masters In neuroscience though which is considered a life science.
Hi bro. My name is Oscar . I fuckin admire you. I think you and me are the fuckin same. I'm starting Psychology degree next year, but my dream is to become a psychiatrist or something related to neurology ish, you know, cause I wanna find the cure to mental diseases and shit. I'm from Spain bro. I'm 21. What's your advise for me? Studying mental diseases it's my dream since I was kid, but I can't study medicine cause the mark is too high, it's impossible for me to reach that high mark
Im interested in psychology and psychiatry just cause of my health conditions. I dont much understand why people are interested in it for other reasons

Would love to see an interview with someone coming from a completely non-science background i.e media, the arts or humanities etc
They are coming I swear! :D There's not that many in the year and most have disappeared for the holidays but will do them as soon as I can :)
Siobhan (RUclips: ViolinMD) went from an undergrad in Violin Performance (Professional Violinist) to Medicine.

Do more of these please !!! Non science people 😁
Trying my hardest I swear! Not that many non-science medics still here unfortunately but will have them on as soon as I can :D
Do they consider your gcses for medicine when you have a psychology degree?
phd vs medical school.... which weighs more in terms of doctor
Good content Ollie. Would love to hear this from a pharmacist! How are you spending your summer btw ? Do you guys get a summer?
We do indeed get a summer! I'm free until the middle of September, using the time to relax and get as much project work done as I can now that I have a bit more time to make videos!
Thank you❣️ you inspired us!
Thank you so much🌹This was incredibly useful!

I know a couple who did exactly that! Will do my best to get them on camera
PostGradMedic Thank you! 👌
Update: found a pharmacist who practised for a bit and then switched to medicine, hopefully coming soon!

Hi Ollie ,
Have you ever done a video of a person who has done an online degree and used that particular degree to get into medical school?
Hi Coral! I haven't but I don't see why an accredited online degree say Open University shouldn't be perfectly valid!
Thank you so much for your response!

Hi Ed/Ollie, how did you find balancing a long distance relationship and the intensive first year?

PostGradMedic thank you for doing this. It means a lot! Stay blessed 🙏🏼
Hey there!
Does the A-LEVELS really matter when you have already taken a undergraduate degree in BSc psychology?
It depends on the medical school - each has different feelings on this! For Warwick, no they don't matter.
Hi ollie, is a masters necessary for a GEM? Also, which examination did you take to get in? UCAT etc? Thanks!
A masters is not necessary for GEM, however some medical schools with a 2:1 standard requirement will accept a 2:2 with a masters (not sure if this applies to warwick, you can see individual requirements on Medentry and double-check on the unis' own entry requirements pages)
Can you do post graduate medicine from a paramedic to a doctor ?

You can, yes - only a BSc/BA is required
Great video Ollie! Amazing channel, I'm doing Psychology Bsc with Counseling at The Open University, would I be able to apply to go to Warrick?
Thanks so much Alex! Yep, if you get a degree at the end you certainly should be able to! Can always email them to ask if you want

Some medical schools, including Warwick, accept any undergraduate degree
