the ring retreival was so sensual I love it hahaha
I just watched this movie for the first time today and I felt like I almost passed out from that....
When he takes the ring with his teeth--that hits different for me now. He could've told her to keep it because they were meant to be. But, it's another red flag that she's not the one. I don't think I saw that angle before.
This sentence really stuck with me after watching this film “This too, shall pass”.

The scene between Paul Giamatti & Julia Roberts was small but I loved it.
It makes me feel so good how so many recognized the greatness of their 2 minutes together.

Clearly Julia is bad dumb actress for romance and its stupid jerk.

When you're meant to be a star it doesn't matter how small a role you have Paul is proof of that
I'd never heard of him at the time. His 2 minute scene blew my mind. I knew I was watching greatness.

I never thought about the conflicting underlying clues in this scene, of Michael's ring literally (and maybe symbolically?) not being a match for her vs Michael's slip of the tongue with "maybe I'll go back to NY with you, *we* can go somewhere if YOU want".
It's a terrible ship-tease of a scene. Really well done!
I do have to wonder how awkward the ring-retrieval part was for them to film, though... XD
But on a more serious note, I liked how his voice started out emotionally-gravely with "I'm so" and then caught and went soft and breathy on "glad you're here". It's the little, subtle things actors do, without drawing attention to them, that often do the most add depth and realism to their characters.
One of my favorite scenes between Paul and Julia. He showed great empathy here.🥰
Did you notice the cigarette ash feel in her hair and magically out wasn't there without her or Dermott removing it. Tell me I'm not the only one who noticed it.

I was blown away by Paul Giamatti in this scene. At the time I didn't know who he was.
Me too... he stole the scene. I knew I would be seeing him again. The moment might not have been as dramatic in the hands of a lesser actor.
He was fabulous.

I didn't know at that time either, never even heard his name that I remember of. I remember he played in Fred Claus, so i looked him up to see who he was in that movie and saw that he was Nick, so now I'm like "Wait that's Paul Giamatti?" Lol.

I understand why Michael chose Kimmy because she loves him more than he does. This is painstakingly hard to watch knowing they won't end up together, ugh I wish for anew Dermot and Julia movie where they got married.

i have always loved this film, my engaged sister used to watch it up until the time she she was married still married 20 odd years later. julia never looked more beautiful. and "THIS TOO SHALL PASS" you are hurting now but it will pass

The first time I saw this movie, I thought the stuck ring was gonna be a larger issue - how long could she hide the ring before everyone discovered it was stuck on her hand? Comes from a steady diet of bad television 🙂

Paul Giamatti Had a Cameo in this Movie as the Bellboy when she sees’s Julia Roberts Smoking in the Hallway of the Hotel Area when she shows the ring to Dermott Mulroney
I didn't know who he was at the time, but he blew me away in this little part.

I guess you just completely skipped over that line lmao.
And regardless, just because you show someone smoking doesn’t mean that you’re actively promoting it. There’s a big difference between depicting something and promoting something.
The smoking was a symbol to show how stressed Jules was. People smoke when they're stressed out. It's symbolic, not a promotion, relax.

He is doing subtle effective acting and was probably paid very little, bring much less well known then. She is just doing Julia Roberts, same in every movie.
