I was lucky enough to see the show 3 rows away from the stage at the Friday performance immediately following the Tony Awards that year. I went with my older sister who grew up loving the movie (and who had introduced it to me when I was growing up) and we had an absolute blast esp. seeing all the guys dancing up close - the Seize the Day number that night was unbelievable! Being so close meant I got one of the newspapers they threw here and, by the end of the number, the applause was insane and lasted for probably over a minute but felt like an eternity! Everyone in that cast was so freaking good and I still have fond memories despite it being close to 10 years since having seen it! :D
I cannot imagine how *INSANE* it must have been to see this live! Also, the guy at 3:19 hitting those perfect a la secondes ON A NEWSPAPER is absolutely sick with it!
Cameron Foster I know, I was more referring to the first half about it being faster than normal. Trust me, I’ve watched the full show more than I can count lol
I would kill to see the original broadway cast perform newsies on broadway. if this alone was as incredible as it was, i cant imagine what seeing it on a broadway stage would be like. i love newsies more than anything, i'm so lucky to be able to do it at my school.
This number alone makes Newsies the hardest musical to put on. This number: -Requires a lot of actors -Actors are all men of a specific age group -All actors need to be able to sing -All actors need to be able to dance -Dance number includes ballet -Dance number includes mild stunts -Due to costuming, you can’t pad out the numbers with girls, it’s too noticeable I wouldn’t be surprised if they auditioned the entire state of New York and then some to be able to fill out this cast. EDIT: scratch that I forgot that Starlight Express was a thing
The fact that this performance was right after the show won for best choreography makes it’s wholesome level over 5000 Also Jeremy Jordan DOES dance in the newspaper sequence…all the way in the back He’s doing his best and we love him Look for the blue shirt
I’ve seen a lot of shows on Broadway. This scene, by far, is my favorite. Seeing this live...the talent, the dancing...and the crowd went wild. So good! I could see this show over and over again, just for this scene.... not to say the entire show wasn’t top notch because it was.
Yes - Im digging Jeremy Jordan's stage presence and what a set of pipes to go alongside his great castmates with choreography. 2012 was a great year for Broadway. Its 2023 and im currently in a random broadway musical phase and Jeremy Jordan's Santa Fe - one of my favorites!!
One of the few broadway shows where the ensemble members are as well known as the principal roles!! Rightfully so cause they really DELIVER!!! No pun intended lol
Such amazing choreography. These guys are so talented. The jumps, the splits & the sliding on the floor through the legs of the other actors. Of course, you forget the dancing on the newspapers and the singing, too. I’m just sorry I missed all of this life. I’m glad I got to see it on the Tony Awards and now on RUclips. Thanks.
This is amazing, but, believe it or not, the London production is even more amazing. It has been restaged and re-choreographed for a new theatre which is not in-the-round but almost. It is an immersive experience for the audience, and, in nearly 60 years of going to musicals, I've never experienced anything like the thrill of 'Seize the Day'.
Realmente talentosos, mi coreografía favorita, un genio quien la creo, ver este número me pone la piel de gallina, es perfecto, todos son increíbles, giros, acrobacias, los saltos ahhh los fouettés de el final increíbles
It makes me a bit sad seeing some of the Tonys performances, because they have their time limit and so the backing is always a bit too fast for them to really fill out the notes
I grew up tap dancing, and we could do complicated pullback tricks/ combinations, triple time steps, rapid-fire taps...the audience always went wild over TRENCHES. Which take approximately zero talent. So funny to be applauded for a garbage move 😜
For my final concert in High School, we got to sing a medley from Newsies. We in the senior class then took a trip to New York where one of the things we did was watch Newsies on stage.
My new hobby is watching all the places the Newsies performed “seize the day” and watch them work through progressively smaller spaces. (As a person who condensed a performance with weapons from a gym floor size to a stage- I feel the pain)

As an ex-dancer I can appreciate how extraordinary they are, but my ex-football player friend dismisses it all as "cartwheels," which I have to admit I find kind of funny. It's like saying Tom Brady plays "fetch" for a living.

No one works harder than Jeremy Jordan running away from those dance numbers 🏃🏻♂️
This is so funny 😂
This made me laugh so loud! lmao
In this performance, he actually dances in the pape sequence at the very behind which surprised me XD
I’ve never noticed before, that’s going to bug me now!
LMAO no really!
And this why the musical won for best choreography that year!! Freaking amazing
totally deserved!!
@Naomi Edward lmao explain
This performance was immediately after they found out they won, which is so wholesome and I love it
Alex Wong was also in it

Why is it so fast?
Jack, the ultimate hype leader who can’t dance
Haha
Our jack isn't the best dancer anyway either. Guess it was just being authentic!
Tony Awards performances are sometimes abbreviated versions of the actual song because they’re on a time limit
Chloe Butler This is the full performance, in the actual musical, Jack doesn’t dance much either.
Cameron Foster I know, I was more referring to the first half about it being faster than normal. Trust me, I’ve watched the full show more than I can count lol

Chiamaka Aghamelu Me too. I went to go watch it and it was just gone. It’s the worst.
they did?? It's still on in my region.
I raved about it to friend and then it was gone. It's fina!s week and I have no newsies

It’s available on Disney + but nothing matched seeing it in person.
I saw it. It sucks except for the choreography. And I had to see it twice.
Doing choreography from broadway shows like fun and games until you try newsies #bye

God, you'd have to be so so so immensely talented to be in this ensemble.
my favorite thing about broadway is that if you look up any white male broadway actor they were either a newsie or dated one
Either way, they were associated with newsies
Or Mormon
Kind of makes me wonder how many Newsies dated other Newsies. Or what percentage of Newsies are gay, straight, or bi.
This might be my favorite comment ever
