  • In this video, Jarryd demonstrates a fundamental drill for improving shoulder mobility.
Dislocates are an extremely simple drill that you can work into your warm-up / warm-down routine to improve shoulder mobility and prevent an accumulation of muscle tightness.

I'm getting a few questions about completing this exercise with pre-existing shoulder injuries.
If you have underlying shoulder issues, I strongly recommend that you get screened by a competent practitioner before implementing dislocates.
For soft tissue injuries, scarring in the connective tissue significantly increases the risk of injury, and you should look into ART and dry needling to get ontop of this.
    As always, apply common sense.
    Good luck 👍

How I wish I knew this before I have injured my arms from drawing a bow often.

@@RogueArcheryTV You cleared up so many doubts whether if i'm doing something right. And made me realized my area of weaknesses
Posture: My core wasn't engage and remained engaged through out. I'm too upright and string hits my chest.
Bow arm: was using my bow arm shoulder to raise the bow.
Bow arm: I was drawing the bow with my arm instead of shoulder and back which lead to fatigue and wanting to release the arrow sooner than I would like.
Bow shoulder: Mobility was lacking need to stretch more with the arm to wall exercise...to name a few.
Without professional help, improper form and techniques gave me an injury in the draw hand shoulder (overbowed, overpractice with improper techniques). With just 10 mins of the exercise with the stick to stretch and warm up i already feel better.
Question: Does the knuckles of hand on the string have to be vertical? looks like mine is flaring away from my body. Do you think the under the chin anchor point can be carry over in hunting applications? Thanks again man for making these vids. God bless.

You pointed this out below but it probably should be a cautionary note in your video that this exercise can really bolix up someone with shoulder injuries if they try it. Yeah they should be smart enuf to know better but I can speak from experience not everyone does. I have long past torn rotator cuffs and have dealt with them just fine through PT and shoulder strengthening, I tho't this would be a good way to loosen things up but it ended up not turning out well. Ii will live but for those that are no longer 25 yrs old and have refused to admit it this is a caution note- go slow and with moderation and a wait period to see how the shoulder will react the next day....before going on... better safe than sorry.

Thanks for sharing your experience, and I'm sorry to hear about your shoulder injury. My hope is that it's nothing too major.
Of course you're right that pre-existing injuries can be aggravated by such an exercise if not properly screened before hand.
Can I ask if you used the theraband first or the broomstick?

@@RogueArcheryTV Thanks for getting back-- I used only the thera band and frankly did not feel much discomfort when I did it - obviously I was a bit tight. It was several days later that the impingement from minor swelling started. My fault and responsibility, I think this will pass with a little icing etc and time--I like the exercise over all and just need to caution oldies like myself that time has taken its toll and go slow. This is a great and very useful channel and I appreciate your work.

      It can seem like it!
This is actually normal healthy shoulder mobility. The problem is that in our current modern lifestyles, we don't move the way that humans were meant to!
When it comes to mobility, if you don't use it, you lose it!
