A video that I had been searching for long!
Drive in a Gasoline engine bus with manual transmission.
Thanks to the Railroad crossings, lot of stop and go moments as well.
You have captured the engine sound well.

I love hearing that old Clark 5 speed sing to you in each gear. When I was in high school we had fords with 370s that had that transmission. I appreciate how you shift it right and not try to blow the engine up in each gear like some of our drivers did. We had had one or two drivers that had ungoverned buses who would only upshift after they completely run out of every single rpm the engine had. I think they tried to destroy them.

thanks for sharing! your video took me back lol...I started driving the school bus my senior yr of high school before laws changed. I was given a 1979 Chevy BlueBird Bus #59 for I believe 2 yrs. The best driving thing but she would not make a sharp turn to save your life. They finally took it off the road and gave me a 1987 Chevy BlueBird Bus #67...your video reminded me of 67 with the square box hood, manual transmission , and gas engine. I drove her for for 15 or 16 yrs...they made me turn it in. The bus shop had replaced buses but I didnt want any of the new ones and I'd beg to please let me keep 67...I'd buy me another yr or so lol...finally I had no choice...I got mad when i rode by the bus yard and they had her backed up along the fence wayyy in the back.

I love these kind of school buses. We don't see much buses with the "A" pillar in the middle anymore. There was a video where a child got her backpack stuck in the door and the bus had an air-operated door. The dealers say it's to help the driver keep the eyes on the road. But I find that to be rubbish. It taught school bus drivers to be lazy to not check to make sure the door is clear before closing it. Plus with this bus, this is one of the very few left on the road with a manual transmission. The first school bus I rode was a Vistaramic Carpenter and the door was manually operated, and it sat on a Ford B600 chassis. It had the Lincoln Y-6 engine with a 3-speed automatic attached to it. Except back then, almost all of your manual transmissions were the "compound" type meaning you had a "deep under" gear in 1st. The much newer Safe-t liner C-2 has the Freightliner M2 truck windshield and hood.

I quite enjoyed driving videos, because of the shifting and the stop and go action. I've always like school buses with standard transmission, although in this case I don't get to hear the classic Firstgear Wine. Anyway, this is a really cool video and from one ham to another, keep up the great work and 73 de VA3WXA.

I’ve said it before childhood memories. School Field Trips and regular rides to school daily

Nothing quite like the sound of a gasoline engine truck V8.

Did you use a GoPro to film this? I'm debating to get one, and the picture in this video is real nice.

when you approach a railroad crossing
why do you have to put on the emergency lights and open your doors for a few then close them and turn off the lights and proceed I was just curious?

I've seen some bus drivers leave the doors open while they cross the railroad tracks and then close them.

It's the law for buses to stop at all railroad crossing, some states are different on the procedure in Minnesota you put your 4 ways on approaching the crossing, then you stop open drivers window and service door listen for trains, shut service door and crawl across without shifting gears till your across the tracks
