  • Asalam alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. I made this video as my attempt to support anyone who is very new to learning the prayer and struggling to learn each part using transliteration.
The idea is to play the video and practice the prayer by following along with the actions and movements as well as repeating the Arabic as we go along.
Personally, it took me years to become even slightly accurate in pronouncing all of the Arabic within the prayer.
There are some reverts that come to Islam via their own research and do not have access to a teacher or a local masjid and without that, it is very difficult to learn.
    Disclaimers
    1. If you have access to someone who can properly teach you how to pronounce the Arabic within the prayer, my advice is to learn from them and just use this tool to support you.
    2. I advise that you watch my previous video first (Beginners Guide to Islam Part 4: Learning the Prayer | Al-Salah)
    • Beginners Guide to Isl...
    3. I am not an expert in the Arabic language, nor am I a qualified teacher (I am simply trying to provide a video that I would personally have found extremely useful in my early years of reverting to Islam)
    4. I have purposely left out some Sunnah parts of the prayer, such as dua al istiftah and reciting more than Surah Al-Fatiha. If people find this video useful, I will release further videos to support with adding in some of the extra parts that are Sunnah.
A reminder of the conditions of the prayer
    - Intention
    - Facing the Qiblah (direction of prayer)
    - The timing (This is for the 5 obligatory prayers) (not for optional - although certain times when you don’t pray)
    - Covering the 'awrah (private area)
Male ‘awrah. This is the ‘awrah of one who has reached the age of ten and above, between the navel and the knee.
Female ‘awrah. This is the ‘awrah of an adult woman. All of her body is ‘awrah when praying, except for her hands and face. The scholars differed with regard to showing the feet.
    - Tahararah
Ghusl if you are in a state of major impurity and Wudu if you are in a state of minor impurity
    - No impurity (Najasa) on body, clothes or place or prayer

I feel so calm now praying along with you. I’m not Muslim yet officially, but I’ve been praying, reading Quran and watching videos online. Before I would pray on my language and not properly. Now, I just follow you along and knowing I’m doing it properly now, gives me peace while I’m praying. In sha Allah I will learn all words and meaning of them soon and I’ll be able to pray on my own.
Your guides are so easy to follow mashallah, may Allah reward you for your work and for every new Muslim who learns salat through you. So grateful for your videos.

I am trying my best to do my 5 daily prayers and I try to read the Quran everyday, I’m very early on my path with allah and these videos had truly made me feel more confident with my prayers. Peace be upon you all 💗

Mashallah, your pronunciation of Arabic letters is unbelievable, wallah that I know some of my acquaintances and friends
who lived a long life here in Saudi Arabia and they do not pronounce letters like you What is the secret, Masha Allah, how do I teach them the correct and clear pronunciation because they want to learn and how much time did it take you to learn it Mr. Mark

    • @thinkrevert

Hmm, something like this playlist is very useful:
      ruclips.net/p/PLiSzs1Hp5JygUqtZpZrsucowcIjQvzeU7
I think that it’s quite a complex question but if I had to give one “secret” it would be to listen to the Qur’an a lot, and the more familiar you get with the surah, repeat after the reciter.
For really technical reciting I like to listen to:
      ruclips.net/p/PL7BymzHy-waIWznYh_Vm6rCS7IZwGbJ29
Lastly, I started learning to read without a teacher about 8 years ago, I’m still working on my tajweed but I would say I only saw real improvement after I got a teacher around 6-8 months ago. So basically to give a short answer, if someone wants to learn seriously, I think that taking some time in the week to sit with a tutor, in person or online will give by far the best results. Hope this helps 🙂

You’re welcome, this is one prayer (4 units). This is just for very beginners, once you get more used to it, have a look at the other videos on my channel which help you get better and more fluent :)

Could you copy and paste all the words somewhere? To memorise all of this means spending at least an hour's worth or trying to find the lines in the video everyday 😅

I think I lost the file that I wrote this on, I’ll have a look. Although you may have to write it all out yourself if it helps.
Just so you know, people transliterate the Arabic in different ways, so what I wrote may be different from what you find on another website or video.
