- Spent the early afternoon in Brookings at a swim meet then hurried home and RT'd out to a WPA I hadn't checked out yet this year. Turned out to be a good decision.
I had to laugh when you were trying to get the picture. I have the same exact thing with my 2 pointers. The older one will sit great, but either looks like he was beaten or won't look at the camera when I go to take a picture. The younger one will sit (kinda) but won't stay still when I get the birds in front of him. 😂
Nice one Lu! That was a good number of Roosters. Keep the videos coming!
@@KingsOutdoorLife thanks! It’s always fun to stumble into a bunch of them!
Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing. My Brittany does the same thing when taking pictures - turns away or looks down at the birds. I see I'm not the only one that has that happen to when taking pictures.
Nice hunt! Good to see Nila showing more interest in birds & ranging out more, she's coming along nicely!
@@paulehlers2225 thanks! Slowly, but surely Nila is showing her potential.
Nice hunt - thanks
Another great hunt Lucas, the pup is coming along for sure. So I have suggestion.. some time ago you did a vid on home out of state folks could figure out where to hunt. I like that you did that in an effort to try to take some of the guess work out of it. Maybe you could go thru that process and ID a spot that you haven’t hunted before, and go hunt it.. if you have the time.. anyway thanks again for your vids I really enjoy them. I mostly enjoy the dog work and it’s amazing to me that sage can find birds in those cattails heavy cover. Thanks again Lucas…
Good job Lucas. Love the dogs. Ha the joy of trying to get a pic.😊
@@dennisvandergriff7757 Sage has never been cooperative, but Nila at least will look at me, lol
Another great vid Lucas, I enjoy your vids very much and really enjoy watching sage and the new pup work. You did a vid sometime back to try and help out of state hunters figure things out. Was thinking if you go thru the process to find a few places to hunt ( that maybe you haven’t hunted before) and hunt them. Might be an interesting vid…If you have the time and energy to give it a go. Thanks again for posting these hunting vids, my days of hunting wild birds in CA if pretty much over. I am really amazed that Sage can find downed birds in those cattails, you really do have a special dog there. I am sure with experience Nila will raise to a Sage level bird dog one day. Thanks again Lucas…
@@bartribotta1118 I appreciate you taking the time to share your kind words. Good idea on the new parcel and approach to hunting it. I might have to give that a go!
Given time, Nila will get there. Sage didn’t really get dialed in until toward the end of her second season and become really good until she was 4 or so.
Great hunt! The picture attempt had me giggling.
@@BasicUpland1776 it is such a total ship show trying to get that puppy to settle down enough and then actually have Sage look at the camera. Lol
great video! almost got the double!
@@roberthikade9759 yeah, I would’ve been more bummed out if there hadn’t been so many other birds around. Thanks for watching!
That Saturday was good for us in the rain near Gregory.
@@16GaugeAdventures in the right situation, rain can be alright to hunt in.
😂😂😂
At the picture process , awesome video ❤
@@DuckbumSD at some point in time, a guy just has to laugh at the circus it becomes.
Entertaining dogs, thanks
Great video and good dog work as usual. Sage is obviously losing her hearing.. have you tried a buzz collar to extend her hunting time or is she coping with it naturally by checking in with you more often in the field?
@@markphinney3152 I haven’t tried anything. She does pretty good for the most part, even though she now gets ahead time to time as her conditioning improves.
THAT PLACE WAS INFESTED WITH PHEASANT!
@@Dslats It was incredible! Wish every spot was like that every time I went there!
AS USUAL A GREAT HUNT WITH SAGE AND NYLA.
Pa nay bro!! Love me some uncooperative dogs! A slong as they put roodies in the vest. Healthy ones.
@@lilbrowhydaw ya bro. Grabassery can be entertaining. Especially to others.
Yep! Man do I know how hard it can be wrangling multiple dogs for a photo op 🤣 one is always looking the other way, then when they finally start looking the other is mouthing the birds, all worth it though when a guy gets to enjoy those pics later in life!
@@timwagenmanuplandadventure8270 with that sequence, I enjoyed the process (or lack thereof) more than the actual pic.
I put a treat in my hand when I want a good pic. One always has to be camera shy!!
@@richardkrause2356 I’m going to keep that in mind!! Thanks
There always seems to be a point when it clicks for a young dog. Sometimes it is the second season.
@@Swygard with Sage out there leading the way, I’m not too concerned about Nilas progress. She’ll get there.
@ I have always had overlapping dogs. I run Goldens. It seems like the younger dogs do not want to encroach on the older dogs so they defer to them. The one time this did not happen is when my second dog or pup was a lab. The first golden I had was putting up roosters at six months. She did not have senior dog. Maybe some single hunts will hasten some response?
@ I’m confident it would. The plan is to hunt as we have been and after the season is over, I’ll take Nila out by herself to figure out the game. That’s what I did with Sage when she was young and it changed me from a waterfowler to a pheasant hunter really quick! I’ve always been big into pheasant hunting, but having my own dog changed my perception from fan to fanatic!
@ I am primarily a waterfowler since I left prime pheasant country. Good plan!
Great hunt and as always great looking habitat…need to get out West
Question…what software do you use for editing?
@@firstlast-us3fp Adobe Premiere Pro. It’s a monthly subscription, which is a bummer, but there is an editing software called Shot Cut that a buddy of mine uses. It’s free and does a good job.
My first 2 hunts of the year have been in misty, rainy, and wet conditions. It seems like the birds are running bad on me. In your opinion do you think that is related to the wet hunting conditions or something else like hunting pressure or temperature?
@@tannerhamelau1543 I would assume pressure. At the same time, pheasants seem to be in the lighter grass in misty conditions, which is difficult habitat to hunt as it makes it so easy for them to run compared to thicker cover.
Great hunt! I have a couple questions about ShotKam and your GoPro. First of all how long does your ShotKam live because mine has only been living for not even 1 hour and I have it on the mode where it’s only recording when it senses a shot? My second question is what go pro do you use and how long does each battery last? Thanks
@@Jackson_fish_Hunt so, my ShotKam was only lasting about 45 minutes, so I had a new battery put in for $50. Now it will go 3 or 4 hours. We’ll see how it does during the cold temps.
I use a GoPro Hero 10 and use the Enduro batteries. I’ll get about an hour in warm temps, maybe 40 minutes in cold weather. Good luck!
@ i appreciate it! Do you just have the go pro on past record or whatever where when you click it it records the last couple minutes? Or do you carry multiple batteries
What’s with dogs and cameras😂 mine won’t ever take a good pic without some treats.
@@leahvang9094 It takes a ton of pics to maybe get one that is possible, at least for me.
if I watch enough of these post I will figure out what public hunting areas you visit using the public hunting atlas.
@@tman8939 95% of my hunts are within 30 miles of Watertown. 😊
