  • Headed out to South Dakota for some late season pheasant hunting, spent a little time with my friend Mick and his black labs Rex and Finn. Started out cold but each day got a little nicer and we got into some birds too! Walked a lot of beautiful habitat, spent time with my shorthairs, and harvested some nice South Dakota roosters along the way!

I'm always amazed at your excellent dog work and shooting. I had a very good Ruger Red Label OU (one of my favorites) for years but sold it and picked up a Benelli Montefeltro. The fit must not be right because I missed a lot of birds with it. Sold it after a season and picked up a Winchester SX3 - by far the most reliable semi-auto I've ever owned. You guessed it, 5 years later I sold it for the same price I bought it and picked up the lighter Retay Masai Mara for almost the same price.

@@in.hindsight Thanks, I love my Montefeltro but it does have a few issues. I’m gonna take it to the gunsmith at the end of the season to hopefully have those few things worked out. May get something new this year but will keep the Montefeltro too.

When they catch one without a shot is always a plus 1 against missed birds lol

It sure has been a good season for you and the dogs! It must have been a breathtaking experience breaking through the ice; burr.

@@ronblackburn3683 kinda shocked me, it’s been so cold and all the ice I’ve been on has been very thick, must have been a bunch of busy little muskrats under that ice.

A few years ago while hunting semi early ice on the inside ring in the cattails on a central MN WPA, came across the crime scene of a hunter from a day or so prior who went through the ice. Could see the bee line he made for his truck. Definitely was cold as his gait was about as long as humanly possible between steps. Good season man. Might make SD one more time.

@@billdoms1579 thanks Bill, watched Mick years ago fall in up to his chest, it was right around 0 that evening, long, quick walk back out to the trucks, not fun. A few more weeks left in So Dak, hopefully the weather holds out like it has!

    Tim another banger.
Very surprised that rooster wasn’t stone dead because it looked like a hard hit.
Loved the break you took on the video and the footage from that vantage point was spectacular.
Great messages throughout especially from the Lord.
Keep them coming I’m sure that plenty more than me enjoy them as well.

Another great vid Tim ,Thanks for sharing.
I feel your pain with the falling in the swamp saga, I've done it twice, once up to my armpits on a 10 below day, my dog stood there on the ice now face to face with me at his level probably wondering what the heck i was doing down there, that was a cold walk to the truck and frozen pants when i got there

@@timadderson1994 I haven’t had any issues with my shorthairs in the snow, only crusted over snow which ends up being hard on their feet at times. A guy I know with goldens does though from time to time so I know it can be an issue.
