    When I was a kid I made a wedge out of a small block of wood so I could slide it between the tire and the chain/seat stays... Had 1mm marks so you knew that it was even, then I used this trick, then I used chain tensioners so I could finely tune the back wheel and I loved them. Then I broke them... Now I'm just lazy and I use this trick again. LoL

    What about if your running a hubguard, it throws the alignment of the driver and sprocket off

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  6 лет назад +1

      The proper solution to this would be to dish the wheel to compensate. Basically tightening the spokes so the rim is offset to the necessary side and so the axle isn’t crooked in the dropouts when the wheel is centered.

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  6 лет назад +1

      If a front wheel isnt centered when the axle or both axle bolts are touching the very inside of the dropout, you either have bent forks, a bent axle, or an off dish front wheel.
      Generally it should sit centered on its own. Best way to make sure is to have the bike upside down while putting on the wheel.

  • @The1stHomosapien
    @The1stHomosapien 2 года назад +1

    but this way must be bending and putting pressures on the frame unevenly,
    hence why you should try to tighten both sides at the same time, yes its all very difficult ive been doing it for a long time. often you have to keep undoing the nuts and adjusting the hub bearing nuts too, its often infuriating. takes a lot of skill.

  • @XAVargasX0206
    @XAVargasX0206 2 года назад +1

    I just centered the wheel but keep hitting the brakes, not on the brake arms but where the side spring on specifically the left hand non drive side. It's the new 2022 kink switch. I don't think there is a way to adjust the brakes because it hits the side of the brake, not the arms. I could try moving it back but the chain is short as it is. Not sure what to do except rip the brakes out and just use it brakeless, and don't want to spend the money on taking it to a shop as I allready paid 600 dollars for it.

Also my wheel won't really pull back but the chain already looks kind of tight. I think that it's already at the back of my dropouts or something. Am I doing something wrong? @Brant_Moore hey so one last question. I realized that tightening one side pushes it the other way so to keep it center, is it ok to keep one looser than the other? Neither are necessarily loose, they both seem pretty solid now but overtime, is there a chance that the nut can fall out or something while riding? Is it important that both are completely tightened?

    • @Brant_Moore

      It sounds like the hub hardware is too tight on the hub

    • @bmxriderforlife1234
      @bmxriderforlife1234 5 лет назад +1

      could also be a missing spacer if you tinkered with it.
      could also just be the hub's slow demise, had a macniel cassette hub do this after awhile. broke multiple cone nuts. replaced them. rebuilt it once. replaced the spacer behind the driver, it was just toast. it kept dying mad fast. never figured out what was up with it. never replaced the axle.
      if it starts ghost pedaling(like it wants to act like a fixie or the pedals move when the wheel is spinning forwards as if you were pedaling) then its probably the hub slowly dying. try loosening the cone nut on the drive side a lil. if you have a replacement try that if loosening it a tad doesnt work.
      check and make sure any internal spacers for the driver arent missing or placed in the wrong direction. get some triflow and run it through the hub and then add a touch of light grease.
      if you can pop the bearings out and make sure those are still smooth. potentially pop the seals off clean them and relube them. that fixed my buddies odyssey v3 cassette hub when it started spinning mad slow. he just cleaned out the shell bearings and it started running much smoother again(he rides alot of dirt jumps and trails)
      chain tension can also cause some issues like that. not common but can happen. make sure your chain isnt stupid tight.

    Sometimes knowing how to do it and doing it are two very different things... I can get a beach bikes chain straight all day long but then a mountain bike climbs all over me like a mountain goat at the fair.

      This video was helpful though compared to all the others of people with 400 dollar mountain bikes that don't even have bolts.

    What if you have two drives??? Motor Assist.

      It will require some extra tinkering but the concept should be similar

    What about front wheel?

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  4 года назад

      Front wheel should be centered when it is all the way seated in the drop outs. If it’s not, your wheel is off dish and you need to have someone true it

    when i pedals i hear a noise like a click down below where my pedals are

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  5 лет назад

      Sounds like it could be a pedal bearing or a bottom bracket bearing. Or even something with the chain going onto the sprocket. Might be best to take it to your local bike shop and have them take a look.

    Not bad. But honestly, NOBODY has ever done one of these and addressed the real problem. Especially frustrated must be the kids that still have frames made of hi-ten. The dropouts get squished, or indented, making the wheel always want to go into that groove. I dont have a solution, but thats the problem. Harry Main probably did the worst one ever, going on and on how easy it is, when he has a new frame every 5 minutes. Hi-ten frames also can get a slightly warped rear too, that one may not notice.

    People need to see where your putting your hands man. Nice to start the Video angle but you need to have the camera on the side. This Video is pointless

    ummm no u don't want to add stress on your bearings by doing this. also your driver and chain will wear out in "unnatural" way since they are angled instead of being paralell with one another and don't even mention angled wheel rotation in relation to your bike as a whole. if the wheel doesn't stay centered after u tighten the nut on your "chain side" than it has to be laced in the right way. re-do the spokes so the wheel sits centered IN YOUR FRAME not the truing stand since it may vary.
    I see alot of dudes doing this tho...poor kids. making all kinds of rumors about bad hubs or wheels and whatnot.
