    THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS. A couple notes to people watching. He missed one critical screw around 5:38. You have to loosen a Phillips screw in the top right corner of fan buried UNDER the wires. There's another video "HP EliteBook 8540w fan and heatsink replacement removal" that shows what I am talking about. Hopefully its still around. I have 8540w too but my fan was slightly different than his and I couldn't figure out how to take it apart. Also, take your time putting on the smaller cable for keyboard. The little white connector falls off very easily or at least it did for me.

      Thanks man, that helped. I also have a bit different attachment than the one in this video, the one that you describe.

    Just upgraded my CPU and GPU thanks to you guys! One of the more tricky machines I've dealt with. You guys rock!

      what did you upgrade from and to. I am Attempting to do the same. I am trying to go from an i5 560m to an i7 640m or, if possible an i7 840qm. The 640m looks like a sure thing, but I'm not sure about the 840qm. I love this laptop so much, even as old as it is. You could drive a nail with this case if you had to, and even this i5 is really fast with Linux on it.

    Thanks for the video. I performed this operarion on my elitebook 8540p, but now it does not properly start up: the fan makes some loud noise and the computer shuts down on its own about 10 seconds into boot. Any suggestion on how to fix that ? Thanks !

      I found the solution: I just had to (properly) apply the thermal paste.

      @howfixit  5 лет назад +2

      No! You need to use thermal paste when you cleaning the laptop

    • @applepoop10
      @applepoop10 4 года назад

      Yes you can; and the CPU and graphics card will overheat very quickly and destroy itself. :)

    • @connorm955
      @connorm955 2 года назад

      Yeah but ONLY if you would rather use a thermal pad. Otherwise it'll fry.

    Es gibt einen kleinen Trick. Die Tastatur anheben und mit Druckluft durch die Kühlrippen von Hinten sauber pusten. Voila, und der Laptop wird nicht mehr heiß.
