You are wonderful You always find very interesting subjects to paint. I look forward to the Patreon post with the Leucadendron that is perfect to sit with to your Protea.
Fabulous crow! I LOVE Soft press paper! It makes me go Ahhhh, when pulling my brush along it! I found it when it was new... late 90s or early 2000s. I do hope you get well soon! Thanks for the tutorial! I love lamp black! It a was and such wonderful texture. I didn't start using it until I bought some Lunar Black and I realized it was made from lamp black.
I absolutely love your paintings. I would say this beautiful bird is a Crow. 🙂 I just learned a couple neat ways to tell the difference between Crows and Ravens, if you don't have two together to differentiate the size ... a Crow's beak length is about the same diameter as their skull, whereas a Raven's is wider than their skull and Ravens have a mane of feathers, like a lion's mane. Crows do not have a mane. ❤
What a beautiful painting Louise Thank you for showing us how you mix your colour for black it really is an inspiration. Thank you for sharing with us x
You seem to have such a knack for deciding appropriate values and colors. Interpreting a subject is very difficult for me; I want to be too literal. The gate came out spectacularly well. Seeing how you handle this so skillfully makes me think a building/architectural piece would be a most welcome tutorial. Ravens are larger than crows. I live in the mountain of Western PA (gorgeous autumn foliage!) and we have very large crows here. But the raven I saw hiking the Grand Canyon in AZ could just about carry me away! How do you decide which few colors to use and how many to limit? For example, when do you decide between using violet vs. mixing it? We all have (too) many tubes of paint and it is so tempting to use too many and lose unity.
Your paintings are wonderful and never looks overworked. As soon I get a new job I will become a patron. I wish you a great weekend Halloween and thank you for this tutorial.
This was so much fun to watch. You make it look so easy, too. (I know it’s harder than it looks.) You also make me want to join your Patreon group, something I plan on doing once we get through a busy fall, and it’s too cold to be outside!
It’s a beautiful painting! I love mixing my own black, for every watercolour brand I have my own favourite recipe. I love your combination of Burnt Sienna and Winsor Violet for the rusty gate, I must try that. Happy Hallowe’en!! 🧡💜
He’s absolutely stunning, but that gate was a masterpiece 👌🏽 I have that same reference photo waiting for me to do in coloured pencils, and seeing it again has boosted my confidence to tackle it. 🖤💜💙
I love this painting. I love birds and crows/ravens are one of my favorites. They are just so majestic looking! I definitely want to try my hand at this painting minus the cob webs 😊. Is the reference photo part of the patreon subscription?
Hello Louise, thank you for this demo... You nearly never get a watermark when you rewet a painted zone... how do you do that ? Do you soften the limit of the wet zone ? Thank you...
Your crow is beautiful! Thank you for showing. Want to ask you something. The crow on the pole, you show on the start of the video. May I make a drawing from this crow? Because I don’t know if the foto is copyright free. I love the colours you are using.
Crow, beak has me confused, when I see crows, verses the Raven that has a hook, but seen some crows with a bit of tip hook of a beak. Wonder is this is due to age from birth to get out of their shell, and loose as they age. Have not heard history saying much about age. Snowy owls turn white when about 7 years old. Ravens are the ones I see more color in feathers. Most crows I have seen are DARK, mainly because they are somewhat out of direct sun, and the pigments, even a raven would not show. Yours is on a fence, in direct light.so their Midnight colors are more likely to show. Your crow does not have the BIB of feathers a Raven has.
Your crow is just majestic! Again beautifully painted, cheers 😊❤️💕🥰😘😍
You create magic with your art. Magnificent .......I am in AWE!
Beautiful Crow! Ravens are larger and their heads and beaks are larger. Get well soon!

those colours were a perfect choice to get the shine on these bird's feathers 😀
I love the iridescence on the feathers in your crow paintings! So much vibrancy in these pictures of "black" birds.
The gate was my favourite part. It was definitely worth the effort to make those rusty textures come to life.
Thanks Louise you are simply the best !
Wonderful composition! Love how you save the highlighted colours and make them shine with the dark. Really want to try a crow.

What a magnificent composition! The "gate" adds so much interest and your choice of colours was excellent (as always). Just love it Louise.
I love your Crow!
The rusty gate is wonderful!
Thank you, so much, Louise!
You're a fantastic inspiration!
Maravilhoso
You are so steady with your brushes. May I ask the names of you size 1 and 5 brushes? TY.
Beautiful - perfect for Halloween. I can’t find soft press paper. Could I ask, would you recommend NOT or Rough instead?
Stunning! How do you keep track of your drawing if the first wash hides the lines??
Thank you Johanna. I could see my pencil lines underneath the wash enough for me to keep working on it.
How do you copy the scetch from the referenced foto to the paper. It looks very detailed.

Would Payne’s Grey be an option instead of the Lamp Black? Thanks.
Your crow is beautiful! Thank you for showing.
