These old Lincolns are great cars. First and second gen Town Cars are my favorite ones. These cars have probably the best ride of any car ever made after the downsizing in the late 1970s. Better than any Cadillac. Better than a Rolls Royce. Nothing rides like a Lincoln. These cars were also put together a lot better than the Fords and Mercuries of the time, being made in Wixom MI.

The 85 Town Cars have a fast idle mechanism like a carbureted car. When the engine is cold, pump the gas once before starting and it engages something that holds the throttle open slightly to make it idle faster. After about a minute you can blip the gas pedal and it will disengage and drop the idle down. I believe the fast idle speed is adjustable as well as how long it will stay engaged for.

If you are going to replace the speakers with non-originals, the Infinity Reference line is moderately priced and provide excellent sound and are very efficient with output level per watt. There are even component models for the front where the woofer mounts in the door and the tweeters in the dash, so that all stays factory like. You may want to add a bit of resistance in line with them - to up the ohm load to match the original factory speakers. I believe the original Ford Premium Sound speakers were 6 ohm, and the Infinity speakers are 3...I am not sure how low of a load the amplifier can handle, but adding some resistance will solve the problem.

My grandfather had a silver one probably a couple years newer. Then he traded that in for an early 90’s style in white. He’d grease up the rear leather seats so us kids would slide back and forth when he took a turn. He’d just laugh as we’d crash into the doors until grandma yelled at him 🤣

I got a 1988 Lincoln Town car Cartier, Been driving it daily for over ten years, all these cars need is routine maintenance, with the odd exception of maybe a fuel pump, or a ball joint, or a heater core, regular fluid changes, and ive never broken down yet. Gen 1 town Cars are Built to last a very long time!!! i do my own maintenance, it has the original engine and transmission, and has 265,000 miles and i still drive it anywhere and its still a daily driver !!! i never worry about breaking down. after being on the road over 30 years , it's a fact with proper maintenance these car's last., I Refuse to buy any new car, as im at home in a 1980's Lincoln, no car payment makes up for the extra fuel it might burn.

You can have Bluetooth added directly into the preamp of the original head unit...here's a video of a similar Ford unit being modified for this:
    ruclips.net/video/2-FUvPBoDts/видео.html
You can also add a CD changer, either wired direct in the same manner, or through an FM modulator, but direct into the preamp is ideal...just a matter of finding a changer that has its own controller and also has direct outputs vs solely FM modulated.
