    For all the anvil haters out there lighten up. I started with an anvil shaped object then came cross an old one with half the hardface snapped off. I now have better anvils and some are in pristine condition. But you know what, both my original aso and broken anvil are still in my winter home and still get used.
    We all start at some point and work up from there. Don't kick dirt into the eyes of those on the ladder beneath you. You may fall and someday be looking up at their feet.
    Hammer away my friend, hammer away.

      Thank you my friend. I'm thinking of buying a second anvil, a different modification. I will definitely leave this one until I have plans for it. There is history and utility in this anvil. I don’t perceive the comments of evil people) Thank you, good luck to you.

    Personally, I love an anvil with personality and history. I’m sure that surface is incredibly hard.

      Thanks for the commentary. Yes, the surface is hard. But the main mass itself is of medium hardness. I know the history of this anvil until 1920. Bought this anvil from a friend

    To make steel rivets you can use welding electrodes. I did not try to harden them. May be possible before you install it ?
    May be possible after instalation using a welder in points or mig? The electrodes are a little softer than the iron rivets but work.

      You can do it in the cold, but then the rivet will crack. Need to let go of the metal

      In this form, I bought it from a friend. The anvil stood under a tree for 20-30 years. I thought about restoring it, but I did not find a good metal platform for it.

      @@addforging well welding would be out. facing cut would need a deep cut dont know temp under it.
      could made epoxy dam on edges to hold long enough to pour lead. file test the lowest layer on right side video ? might be hard. how could you go about it ? local mens shed might have a mill or makers space. mag drill to a depth with anular cutter all over then zip of the rest with thin cut off wheels?

    • @addforging
      @addforging  Год назад +4

      You can cut off the top layer with a cutting disc. Then heat the anvil of the upper platform and weld the top with special electrodes in a continuous layer. After that, you need to mill the top new platform. This is all costly and time consuming. Maybe I'll shoot a video of the restoration.
