I was just telling someone I believe God gave me boys to let go of perfectionism. All these things you mentioned about accepting their silliness and laughing with them is where I struggle. I’m not homeschooling, yet. My boys are just 2 and 4 but the plan is to start this fall. I needed to hear this message, I need to remember they will happen during “school” just like they already happen and to be ok with them.

Just turned 30. And just gave birth to my sixth son, my oldest being 8. I knew I wanted to homeschool before I even got married (never did I imagine I would be the only female in my family 😂) but it has been the biggest joy to be able to be the one to teach them and watch them grow. I, too, want to raise respectful, responsible, honorable, and godly men. It is both terrifying and yet so exciting to be the one (along with my amazing husband) who God has put that responsibility upon. I have such a long way to go with my patience, it is a daily struggle, but I am so grateful they are mine 🥰

Right on! I already homeschooled three boys and one girl and now I am homeschooling one boy. They are so different. One of boys hated sitting in a chair, sitting still wasn't even an option, so he did a lot of school on the floor while tapping his pencil and petting the dog. Lol. That kept him from irritating his sister with the constant noise of tapping on the desk. LOTS of movement is involved in homeschooling boys. They are such a blessing.

I have two silly boys, just as you mentioned their language, jokes and activity level is out there, only mom with boys could understand. Thank you for this video. I thought I was the only one the kids were not crazy about poetry and picture study. My boys love to be in nature but not so much just the picture, they feel that I am quizzing them when we do picture study, maybe is me not doing it right. Thank you for letting us know how it is for you; I sometimes feel that I'm doing something wrong, until I hear other mom of boys opening their heart ❤ like you just did.

I’m a boy mom 💙💙💙 I have 3 sweet boys 7, 4, 1. I learned from YOU to let go of all the “cute” stuff that I imagined in my head and really only I wanted to do in our homeschool and it truly brought SO much peace to our homeschool when I let go of those expectations. They’re boys!! They want to explore, get dirty, and smelly! And I’ve learned that they learn so much more doing that than sitting down all day doing lessons they don’t want to do 🥰

  • @JMNreels

Oh my goodness! I also have three boys. This sounds EXACTLY like our homeschool. It is loud, busy, lots of movement, and chaotic at times. We are at the river every single day and they need to be outside for hours which in turn helps with focus. They ( it sounds like yours also) are kind of like throw back kids, they work hard, play outside and they're happiest dirty with a pocket knife and a stick lol. Thanks for the video!

As a mama to 3 boys this is pretty spot on lol!!😆😂👍 And it’s all I know too as a parent, and I LOVE being a boy mom!☺️💙💙💙 I think one thing I’ve noticed at their ages is they like to PLAY a lot and just do their thing, whether that’s being outside, building with LEGOs, using their imagination, creating & building, drawing, books, (*cough: Minecraft), etc. With boys I feel like that need or want for a sense of control (for a lack of a better word) and freedom in what they do is ever present, and perhaps that’s true for anyone or any child. So with homeschooling I try to follow their lead or interests, take in their input, while also introducing my own input and guidance in what we do. I’m also big on letting them have and enjoy their childhood because it’s such an incredibly short time in a person’s life. They are definitely wild & free most of the time ha!🤪😅 But I too want them to be good human beings and all of my boys have some big hearts for sure.❤️ The hunger for food never ends, they’re barefoot 99.9% of the time no matter the weather, they’re constantly making messes or tearing holes in their pants, getting dirty, wrestling or laughing, playing or just doing their thing. I will say coming together and getting their interest in doing “school” , sitting down, or structure learning can be a struggle sometimes-but they are ALWAYS learning or doing in their own ways and choices. My boys are constantly doing their own little studies or projects or grabbing books or looking information up or collecting. I agree it’s important to put some focus on life skills or being good men, and I hope we always strive for that. Life with boys is fun and messy and lots of food lol, and it’s so interesting watching them grow and explore and be their individual selves. It’s definitely all a learning journey and quite the adventure together!😊

  • @jessicalantz4428

Yes to physical labor!!! My boys are 8 and 4 and they both seem to focus so much better after they've been doing manual labor...stacking wood, raking leaves, washing their bikes, shoveling snow, etc. My daughter gets annoyed; my boys get excited. Wired differently, for sure!

I apply much of this to my girls already but my only boy is about to be 2yrs old at the end of this month and I already see how different he will be from his sisters. I wonder how our homeschool will change once he joins. For now picture study and poetry is exciting in our school but I never paused to consider he may not be into it when he's school age. How do you monitor your boys video game usage. Im lost. My boys were in public school before this year and it was easier cause they would just get their games in the evenings and on weekends.

TV time and game time have to be earned here. My older boy only gets to play a video game after he's read a book! Lol! And he only gets an hour of screen time each day. So he's always building trains and being creative.

    • @bu2ful119

Screentime is only for educational purposes here. I homeschool my 5 and 6 year old. I.E. If we are learning about erosion we'll watch a short video about it after we read that section in the book.
I don't online school, I don't give screentime for a reward. I really only use it sparingly to supplement our curriculum. No video games. All that dopamine is not good for their little brains.

If I let my son wash dishes or vacuum, i have made his 4 year old world a brighter place. If I give him a hammer, a nail and a board, i win mom of the year lol.
