- The cab ride video shows the journey of the freshly repainted Škoda 44 140 electric locomotive of the Bulgarian State Railways Passenger serivces (BDZ PP) with the afternoon regional service from Sofia to Lakatnik - train 20215. Interactive timetable below. 👇👇👇👇
The train heads north and passes through the beautiful Iskar Gorge (Искърско дефиле) - one of the few places in Bulgaria, where railways are actually faster than road transport. 😆 Not thanks to their maximum speed of 70 km/h, of course, but because the line travels much straighter than the road. So, expect a few tunnels here and there. 😄

It is also worthy of mentioning that the Iskar Gorge region is one of the few rural regions in Bulgaria that is very well populated, and contrary on what's happening in the rest of the country people are not migrating to bigger towns. Perhaps railways play an important role in that, as they are a very good transport solution for commuting for the people who work in the capital. And, as you'll notice in the cab ride, there are many people coming on and off the train along the journey.

Wonderful and enjoyable. Some beautiful countryside with its Mediterranean type vegetation!
Thank you for your kind comment. Indeed, the countryside in the Iskar Gorge is very beautiful, but also peaceful. Unlike other country regions in Bulgaria, it's well populated and people mostly rely on trains when commuting to the capital.
A beautifully scenic trip. The line seems to be well maintained, surprising because of the apparently light usage.
Thanks! The maximum speed of the line is 70 km/h which seems to be enough for trains to go faster than road traffic. This is why most people prefer to use the train to go to the countryside, which, unfortunately, isn't the case in the rest of the country.
