Thanks for the review! Was surprised (but at the same time not) when I saw the price increase compared to the previous gen. It might be what you mentioned that they are limiting this to make sure it doesn't catch up too much to their flagship, because it seems like we've reached the stage where higher mid rangers are just that little bit lower compared to flagships (well, at least for Oppo because you know, the zoom lens aren't there anyways).

yeah. was expecting a price bump too since they seem to have put more effort into the design and build of the phone. The plus side is they could always push a software update out to fix the throttling. the chinese version (reno8 pro+) doesn't throttle the game this much, so clearly it is able to do better. oh well, it seems to be just genshin at least, and other games still runs fine since most games are not as demanding anyway. so it doesn't really affect most ppl (including their target audience for this phone). Also, it's a bit pricey now, but eventually when you get discounts and promotions, it'll be a pretty good option. especially as a used phone since it does come with 2 years warranty in singapore. so even buying it later will still be relatively safe. 😂

@@axhng haha yeah I recently saw their shopee sale where the x3 pro got cut to 970 bucks or something, I think they'll have good deals for older phones, like how I got my 10x zoom, and I think these deals are the ones that's really worth it since each year's upgrades are so little. Either go pre-order and get freebies, or wait a year or two for them to be on sale.

@@MebiManga yeah. that would be the better deal for sure. not to mention the dimensity 8100 is capable enough that it will probably still perform well enough for quite some time. running cooling and more battery efficient will also keep the battery health better, which means even used phones should age decently well. So even lower risks when buying used sets. 🤣

@@axhng that's good to hear, and when there's more options and competitions (mediatek vs snapdragon) the consumer wins :)

@@MebiManga for sure. though it's a shame that mediatek wasn't able to capitalise on qualcomm's fumble with the SD8G1 by pushing the D9000 harder. Now that SD8+G1 is out, it's pretty much business as usual again and mediatek is now an afterthought again for flagship phones. luckily they still have the D8100 carrying them for now since SD7G1 seems to be just as disappointing as SD8G1 🤣
if only Samsung and their Exynos division was able to keep up too. would have even more options. the dark days of snapdragon recently (SD888 and SD8G1) feels like it could be the result of complacency by qualcomm's monopoly. they were pretty much on top of the world after the SD865, so maybe samsung gave them a good deal, and they felt like they didn't have to go all out and went with the inferior samsung fab to save money, thinking they'll still have no competition (just speculations lol).

The OnePlus 10T has fps in the exact same spot. Too low on the screen .

Really goes to show how popular Genshin is these days if Oppo had to go out of their way just to throttle it. As a longtime player, I appreciate your performance testing.

Thanks! it seems to be just for the global version though for some reason. I've seen a Malaysian tech channel showing the gameplay footage with FPS counter, and seems to be the same as the unit i have. But the Chinese variant called the Reno8 Pro+ (same specs) seems to be able to hit 60FPS just fine. Maybe it's because a lot of Chinese reviewers will use Genshin as a benchmark to test performance, so they didn't limit performance there. I have a sneaking suspicion the global version of the OnePlus 10T might be the same too based on a few videos I've seen showing the FPS. Performance in Genshin seems weaker than the Chinese variant, OnePlus Ace Pro. :/ it's a puzzling decision considering that the hard cap on FPS mean that even for folks who are willing to play at slightly lower graphics to enjoy smooth 60FPS, can't do it on this phone at all. and the chipset is clearly capable enough since i've spent a lot of time playing the game at medium graphics with 60FPS smoothly on the OnePlus Ace/10R. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ can only hope they will change their mind on this eventually.

Love the design. Only if it had headphone jack and sd card slot I would buy it instantly.
