    Not for nothing is this classic old pen still loved and sought after today. I own two P51s : a slate grey w/golden striated cap , aerometric filler with a swell steel nib. The other one is a rich, deep burgundy with gold filled cap, a Vacumatic filling system and a 14k gold stub nib ( a rarity). The vacumatic is certainly more fun to use, but naturally also more tricky to repair when broken. The aerometric is much more durable and easier to fix and replace. For most people, I think the aerometric model is a more practical choice. But then the gold nibs are much more common with the Vacumatics. A trade-off, to be sure. Luckily I own both models. If you find you love this pen, you could maybe look for a gold nib one next time. Because your pen has a steel nib. And the P51 nibs (esp. steel) invariably write a pretty thin, but consistent line. I wish the nib was a little more exposed and less needle-like.
    So, the small, almost needle-like hooded nib can be a challenge for many in terms of proper orientation and avoiding rotating while writing etc…But with practice, you get used to it. I much prefer the semi-hooded nib style on some other vintage pens , though.
    While I like other Parker pens more, the P51 will never leave my collection. I actually own just a few Parker pens.
    A vintage icon that came on the heels of the P51 is the Aurora 88 that I love much more.
    The pricing of the P51 has always been very elastic and unpredictable. Normally, though, restored ones in very good condition fall in the $125-$175). The rare colors and 14k Vacumatics are the pens that fetch crazy prices sometimes.
    Good, thorough review, as always. Enjoy it fully. Can’t wait to see the rest of your haul. I’ll be patient. 🙂

      Hello friend, my learning curve was increasing at the show! Last week, I came back and ordered a book on vintage pens. I believe in being an educated hobbyist.
      I appreciate your input as always, especially since you have these pens and will not part with them!
      That says a lot about the quality and value of them. I didn’t know they had one with a stub nib!!!! You know how I feel about line variation and I’m sure it writes beautifully!
      Thank you also for mentioning about the vacumatics with mostly gold mobs. Makes sense to me!
      I decided to send my pen to nibmeister Danny Fudge to look at the issue I was experiencing. With my magnifying glass, I saw the tines are misaligned slightly

      Stub nibs on vintage pens, especially Parker, are hardly common. I was pretty lucky to have found mine with a stub nib. A very pleasing nib, too. I even have a vintage Sheaffer with an original factory italic nib. Very sweet! The Parker 51 is known to also have an oblique nib occasionally. There are also the Parker 45, 65, 75 etc. pens to consider for the future. And, of course, the great, old Parker Duofold pens.
      Vintage Sheaffer (and Waterman) are very dear to my heart. But explore and enjoy the 51, for now. I was getting carried away - and taking you along with me there. 🙂

      @@sajjadhusain4146 That is very interesting, since my husband is looking for an oblique now in a vintage. I will tell him. For some reason, I was thinking that they were only the Medium/Fine hooded nibs. I will do more research on those nibs - I am curious about what they look like. They can't be hooded, right? I heard that the British Parker 51s are not hooded but a full #6-ish size nib?

    • @sajjadhusain4146
      @sajjadhusain4146 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@KitchenCounterCrafts ..To be sure, I believe a majority of the P51 pens have gold nibs. The steel nib ones are usually the ‘Special’ models. With lustralloy caps and ‘octanium’ steel nibs.
      The oblique/stub nibs are also all hooded nibs, not open. I don’t think, nor have seen or heard of any P51 with #6 size open nibs.

      I think you have a great point (pun intended 😂) about the nib’s performance. That’s the whole reason these pens are so great!!! I love mine. Since I got the nib tuned, it writes like a dream!!!

    @SuperJohnnykay 8 дней назад

    The Parker 51 has a longer aerometric fill with a plastic end. They had a 14 k gold nib with a smooth electroplating. Yours is a 51 special which was the steel nib.Parker had a fancy name for it octanium 8 metals making up the steel. Now the next question : is a gold nib better than a steel nib? It depends on whether you like feedback or not in your use.

    Parker 51 (or 61) everysharp symphony ( or skyline but intricate cap always needs refix) and sheaffer touchdown (tm not snrkel cause its too long) are best pens my opinion.

      @ndubstar 3 месяца назад

      @@KitchenCounterCrafts I actually do have them. I like the eversharp nibs especially, since they have a bit of character to the writing with them. Probably the symphony is really a good one, because they are easy to repair, basically just replace the sac. the skyline is very nice, but they have the same nibs basically, the skyline has a nuanced cap, which always seems loose inside and the cap top, so repair requires being carefull with that and regluing them etc. They also have ventura. parker 51 and 61 are similar, sheaffer touchdowns have a huge gold nib, and a pnumatic filler, which needs to have a gasket and the sac replaced.
