The Americans going in, wanted a Saddam-Hussein type of leader to controll Afghanistan, so that ISIS/AlQaeda type terrorist wont develop in the region.
The Americans tried to create the ANA for this purpose, but Afghans didnt like it.
The CIA back in 2015 began negotiating with the Taliban to take regions from ISIS/Alqaeda, without any interference from the ANA.
The purpose of this, is that the Americans benefit if power is monopolized into one group. Afghanistan becomes much more predictable as a result.
Its why you had western presidents like Trump talk so positively about the Taliban afterwards.
The CIA does this with the Cartels aswell. Same exact strategy.
Its why the Taliban had no power vacuum like Libya or Iraq did.

Custom building parts are far more expensive than ordering the original.
My family worked in engineering and having a spare part of component reverse engineered and Custom built just for one customer is actually really expensive.
Plus, the Taliban would also need to contact the 🇺🇸 American or 🇪🇺 European specialists needed to actually teach them how to properly operate or maintain those components and the machinery.
The Taliban is already short on cash due to the 🇺🇸 US and 🇪🇺 EU sanctions so they'd be spending a lot just to get a spare part that they may not even properly know how to operate, maintain or install.
The previous 🇦🇫 Afghan government needed 🇺🇸 American and 🇪🇺 European contractors/specialists just to help maintain and operate their Afghan Air Force aircraft.
Do you really think that the Taliban can just pick up a phone and call back the 🇺🇸 American contractors/specialists and ask them to help train the Taliban engineers?

Oryx has an interesting article on this that goes about as in-depth as you might hope for. It’s actually not the first time this has happened. The Taliban did have some functional aircraft left over from the Russian occupation prior to the coalition invasion. You could probably count on the current inventory being about as consequential as the former though. An Air Force needs many complicated layers of mutually supporting elements in addition to a private sector to underwrite the cost and enhance the diversity of development. The iterative process is quite limited if the only source of aircraft are heavily used/discarded airframes from the previous generation of technology with no indigenous industry or export market.
You are right, these aircraft won't pose much of a threat. on the open field these guys are useless. Security is the name of the game these days so hopefully they won't boil over into another 9/11

They are intelligent and resourceful....many of them had been trained by the previous administration.
I doubt there’s many who were trained as engineers , pilots , aircraft mechanics. It takes a lot of years of training to be qualified just to fly a military airplane. They were most likely train to be foot soldiers.

Also, haven't had a chance to look at the Taliban's accounts recently. They may be able to afford maintenance for a small amount of it. Focusing on a core set of resources is better than trying to maintain everything regularly.
