    Get the K&N off and put it in the nearest bin. The car produces more torque and power with the original air filter and housing from the factory. The K&N is much smaller in surface area so has huge holes, meaning it doesn't filter as well as a much bigger paper element. It blocks faster and performance degrades faster.
    The noise you hear is the restriction of air going in.
    Paper filters, housings and cold air intakes are designed after manufacturers spend millions on research and development. They are designed to pass way more air than the engine needs at full RPM.

    Really enjoyed the video and the ULEZ information. As the same thing for me has happened.
    I own a Mk1 2003 Focus RS and live within the ULEZ greater London expansion zone. The car is only a summer show car we dont use it much but the ULEZ rules are still £12.50 each time. The RS itself is a EURO 3 but i was told by the MoT garage i use that the engine meets EURO 4 requirements and i should contact TFL which i did and sent then the details of my engine and a letter from my MoT inspector.
    TFL contacted me say yes the car is ULEZ compliant and sent me the email confirmation, i then put my registration into many ULEZ checker sites (including the TFL) site and yes indeed the RS is showing ULEZ complaint.

    As an xdrive owner I definitely agree 4wd is worth it for everyday driving, even if you do lose a bit of BMWness, because you can use all that power out of junctions & roundabouts without clenching. The touring version also makes it a much more well-rounded car.
    I think the 3 is a little unrefined though-quite crashy, a bit too much wind & tyre noise, etc. I didn't buy a 5 because I told myself I didn't need all that space, but the extra refinement makes it worthwhile.

    I believe the pre lci F30 is only ulez compliant if the option ‘Blue performance’
    I’m willing to be proven wrong but I’m pretty certain in this instance. Look the vin up for this car and you will see that option listed.
    I think the option was only available after around 6 months of production and became standard on the very last pre lci 330d’s like this one.

    I daily a 67 reg 335D F30 X Drive. Drives like a dream except for the runflat tyres. Hard over bumps as a result and you feel every pothole or defect in the road. As much as I'd like to just swap to standard tyres I can't justify blowing nearly £1k on tyres (to replace all four corners) when there's plenty of tread left on them.
    I keep looking at a remap which would take it to not far off 400bhp, but I'm a bit put off. More than likely a coincidence but the last car I remapped ended up having the engine go bang a few years later and resulted in a massive hole in the top of the engine block. It was a Ford Ecoboost (ST 2) engine though which are notoriously problematic.
    I live and work and does most of my driving within ULEZ zones so it's a benefit my car's compliant. Quite powerful, spacious and fairly efficient too at around 37mpg on a normal spirited drive or in town and anywhere from 40-50mpg on a motorway run on cruise control.
    The gearbox service cost is quite accurate - 2 months ago I had my ZF 8 speed serviced at a garage in Sussex, I bought the kit myself from eBay for £269.99 and the garage charged me 1 hour's labour at a rate of £99.99 plus VAT (£119.98 total), worked out just shy of £400 but it's now done for another 60k miles.

    • @CarswithJay
      @CarswithJay  4 месяца назад

      Remap will be fine. But realistically why would you need the power? Its fast enough, if anything getting rid of dead spots would be better. Did you have a fiesta ST2? The 1.6 are strong motors on those. Ive seen many abused and abused over 100k miles with no issues what so ever. Although they were most likely stock cars.

    • @thefiestaguy8831
      @thefiestaguy8831 4 месяца назад

      My car does a bit of weird stutter, it's hard to explain. Basically when I move off at low speed and low RPM, after first starting the car, it feels as if the car is hesitating, it doesn't physically jolt but you feel as if the wheels are "skipping". Ever had that sensation you get from the wheels when they slip and you briefly lose traction? It's like that but the traction control light doesn't come on and it happens on dry roads, I've found if I go over modulations (dips) in the road it happens.
      A lot of people have had this issue, many people have said it's glowplug related, coil packs or the engine needing a blast.
      My car has covered 89,500 miles and i've done 30k miles since I bought it 15 months ago, the previous owner was a right cheapskate (and didn't even bother having TPMS sensors fitted to the runflat tyres, which is actually a legal requirement and meant the tyre light constantly flashed and the pressure sensor on the idrive never worked until I had them fitted, as a result i'm very doubtful it's ever had a walnut blast so that's next on my list, no doubt the engine's intakes are caked in carbon build up.
      Cheapest quote so far is £469.50 and one garage wanted to charge me £650.
      No - I had the Focus ST-2, it was a 2 litre turbo petrol engine car with 247 BHP front wheel drive. MK7 Focus. It had the ecoboost engine but it was the 2 litre variant as most of the issues happen with the 1 litre ecoboost. The engine went bang in that car almost exactly 2 years ago today, and I used a stop-gap cheap Nissan X trail from 2004 until December 2022 when I bought the 335D.
      To rub salt into the wounds, when the car went bang the police attended and called national highways england to clear up the oil spill, as my car had dumped it's oil across a dual carriageway. National Highways England then claimed against my insurance for their services, £250 claim for 30 minutes on scene. My insurers wouldn't pay out for the broken engine on my Focus as it didn't "catch fire" and "wasn't in an accident". I ended up selling the car to co-part for £4k when it was worth £10k-£13k at the time AND got a "fault" claim on my insurance as a result.
      To make it even worse, 3 months after getting my 335D, whilst parked up outside my house, and I was asleep in bed, a delivery driver struck my car, and drove off, without leaving details. He was never traced as no reg was captured on the CCTV we have. That was a £550 excess I had to pay which I am still trying to claim back to this today through a motoring law firm, and of course since the driver of the van was never identified that was yet another "fault" claim. 2 "at fault" claims in 13 months, neither of which were really truly "my fault". That has sent my insurance from £1,750 on the 335D to now £4,450 for the year, I have been driving for 11 years (Since Jan 2013), I completed pass plus in Feb 2013 and achieved "Exceeded" grade, I have no penalty points or previous bans/disqualifications, and yet am still ridiculously penalised, unsurprisingly i'm now a lot shorter on cash each month.@@CarswithJay

      @@CarswithJayI've got the same 330d as in this video. Looking online, it seems its not ULEZ compliant: The emissions profile of the BMW 3 Series Saloon F30 with the 330d Saloon variant is as follows: CO2 emissions of 129 g/km, CO emissions of 227 mg/km, NOx emissions of 154 mg/km, and THC + NOx emissions of 175 mg/km. It complies with Euro standard 5 and falls under ED band D.

    Any way of doing this with a 2.0tdi Audi from 2011?

      @CarswithJay  5 месяцев назад

      Dont think so pal. Its NOx is likely between 0.08 and 0.15. So not compliant.

    You really play down the performance of this car. They are seriously quick. They have devastating torque, much more than most M cars, 0 to 60 in under 6 seconds.

    It is not TwinScroll turbo… twin scroll is only on petrols. Diesels got Variable Vein turbos.

      To go a bit further than this for anyone who doesn’t know, 330d N57N engine has a single VGT/VNT (variable geometry/nozzle turbo).
      335d N57Z engine has the bi-turbo setup. Smaller turbo is similar to the 330d with a VGT/VNT. Larger 'second' turbo is a fixed vane design.

      That would be the ones with the n47 engine. The dual tip 320d uses the b47 engine which is better, so if anyone is looking to buy an older 320d that would be something to look out for

      CoC not required. You just need the vehicle NOx output. Most manufacturers charge for the CoC, where as emission data is free.
