    Nice review. I appreciate that you show the important things for the everyday use. One note: the cover to the zip pocket is to protect from the rain, so that if it rains the water does not pass through the zip. It is a bit annoying to open maybe but that's why it exists (minute 7:35).Overall, the normal Kånken plus the extension for the bottle is a better choise in my opinion: althoug is a bit weird that you have to buy extra things for bottle, but the overall price is just less than the Outlong. Thanks for this review! Well done

    I have this bag and the og kanken 17” along with other kanken bags (hip pack, hip pack plus, totepack, totepack mini and mini sling) and i absolutely love all of them. This one is specifically useful because of the external bottle pockets and shoe pocket at the bottom.

    I've looked at Kankens a lot over the years and always been troubled by the shoulder straps and umbrella pockets on the sides.
    this looks great, but, £150 in the UK seems a bit much.

      you can get shoulder pads if you don't like the flat ones, or the larger ones come with thicker straps. you can also get water bottle add-ons. re. price they're almost always on sale somewhere because of how ubiquitous they are

    Great review! The only thing I'd add is that these things are dirt magnets. Cannot overstate how filthy they get, nor how quickly. If you even look at these things too hard they get covered in dirt. Lovely bags, but I like them more in theory than in practice. Doughnut makes a version that's similar and a little more convenient if people are looking for an alternative. I have one of each and I find myself using the Doughnut way more.

    Man, everyone is complaining that kankens arent comfortable. Maybe they just arent made for you. Kanken straps are the moat comfortable backpack straps ive ever used, due to my incredibly small frame. Its nice to finally have something that isnt catered to people over 5'8

      This!!! It’s super comfortable if it fits you right. And its durability is just undeniable.

      I too technically have asmall frame at 5'2". Not everything is made for everyone and I usually have an incredible time shopping for stuff that firs right, I love these bags. Seriously comfortable to me. I've had a 13 inch kanken for 4 years and used it as my daily work backpack a lot of that time. Loved it so much I bought my daughter one for her 1st school bag. I'm never getting rid of this bag, ridiculously durable and easy to care for.

      YESSSS so tired of bags made for 5'10" men that get sized down and marketed as 'women's'

    I have a classic Kanken with my 15 inch laptop. I flip up the whole upper half of the bag to pull out my laptop - like when you flip a bag inside out - but just for the upper part. (Similar to what you did for the bottom bag - flip up the fabric. ) In this way i can easily get my laptop without removing other items from the bag.

    I've got a Kanken 17". As a larger guy, it sits very high on my back and the straps are very close together so I found it very uncomfortable after carrying for about 20 minutes. The strap attachment is the same on this one. I like the pockets and squared off form, but it was painful to carry. It's now my kid's school bag and he loves it. Still looking for a bag for me.

      If you haven't, check out the Doughnuts. They have the same square shape but are a lot more comfortable. I'm 6'3" and have no issues with their larger-sized ones. I basically wear my kanken like a sling over just one shoulder because it doesn't fit otherwise.

      Well, in all fairness, the Fjållråven Kånken was and is designed for schoolchildren in mind so it is specifically for younger people.

    • @autumnrose_tv

      I gave the 15” kanken, the kanken sling and the classic doughnut macaroon. The doughnut is a similar design with more compartments and I do prefer it over my kanken when I’m not carrying a laptop. That being said, the laptop compartment isn’t in the main compartment of the doughnut, which is why I use my kanken when travelling. I know that the lack of an external laptop pocket can be a dealbreaker for some

  • @maritsavatou
    @maritsavatou 5 месяцев назад +5

    I believe Fjallraven mentions that these bags aren't for laptops due to lack of padding and you shouldn'tuse them as laptop bags. There are specifically designed Kånkens for laptops

  • @pilarcas2342
    @pilarcas2342 6 месяцев назад +1

    I have a Kanken 15" laptop precisely because of the laptop compartment. I am delighted with it and I use it every day for work and short trips. The Outlong seems a bit unpractical and expensive despite the new features. I think I will stick to what I have.

    I'm not sure why this pack got an 8.0 review on the pack hacker site. Based on the video I thought, "ok this pack doesn't seem that great, I'll stick with my Jansport Right Pack", which seems like a better pack for a lot of reasons, the sticky zippers, hard to access laptop compartment and difficult to adjust straps being the top ones. All these things are less of a problem on that bag, not to mention the price and materials are much better.

  • @Balthazar2242

    Great video, interesting review! I found myself going through the whole video with "Yeah but that's not..." and "Oh you're not supposed to..." and "Yeah there's a reason for that..." 😅
    1. The cover for the zipper is for water protection. You're supposed to fold it back. With time the fabric softens and you don't have to do it anymore.
    2. The "rough" padding is there to make it catch on your clothes fabric so it doesn't move around as much, and as before, it softens with time.
    3. When you're adjusting your Kånken backpack, you tighten with it OFF. That's why it's easier to loosen it when you're wearing it. And as for the loose straps, most people just do a loop/knot and your problem is solved 🤷‍♀️
    4. And as other people have pointed out, this bag IS NOT A LAPTOP BAG. For you to complain that it's hard for you to get you laptop in or out and that there's no padding is just childish. If you want this bag and want to travel with your laptop, take the consequences. As you mentioned, it would be great for this model to have a laptop function in the future, but this model is very new and that might take a while, so in the meantime, don't complain 😊
    And last, 5. This is just funny, but it hurts my ears to hear you pronounce "Fjällräven" and "Kånken" 😂 It's really cute and I'm happy that Swedish products finds their way out of Scandinavia, the pronunciation is just something we will have to live with! ❤

    Its a great example of ethnocentrism when one assumes the side pockets of an original kanken are for water bottles🧐🌎.

    The original Kånken is a terrible, gimmicky hipsterpack with outdated features. This new version seems to improve somewhat, but that price is risiculous.

      I used to have the exact same opinion, growing up in Sweden, I had a couple kånken given to me since I was a kid and onwards. I also have backpacks from osprey, mystery ranch and a couple other known makers. On paper they are miles ahead of the kånken. BUT, what is my go to backpack for 80% of my missions, even long distance travel and so on? The kånken. Makes no sense at all, I still scratch my head, the mystery ranch is not nearly as used although a great pack. I guess the simple design, clean aesthetic, form factor, light weight and use of a durable canvas as opposed to plastic fabrics are some pro's. I really like osprey, but the material always tears on me and they're extremely use specific. Kånken is so versatile.
