BG Music:
One of my all time favorites, and it came out when I was fifteen years old. And, the girl in the video is model and actress Susie Hatton, who the singer (Bret Michaels) dated for a while. Long live the '80's!
She’s from my hometown Middletown Ohio. She lives here now and goes to my parents church.
@@robwilliamson9056 , hello fellow Buckeye. I am from Canton! Are you saying that Susie Hatton now lives right here in Ohio? She must be about 54 years old by now. Perhaps she is living a quiet life, out of the entertainment industry. I myself am 49 years old.
@@johnsmith2046 yes she moved back here some years ago. I remember from church back in the 90s. So I believe it was right after her and Brett broke up.
In some ways a simple song but it's 100% perfect from start to finish. Loved this since it first came out. CC Deville on guitar is a total beast!
CC wasn't even close to the best guitarist of the 80s, but had the charisma and frenzied moves while playing that every rock fan knew his name.
@@HeavyTopspin his playing served the song. When the songs are being written on an acoustic in open tuning, then translated to barre chords, etc, there are only so many ways to solo off of it. It takes a genius like Mike Campbell to really excel as a counter to these basic I, IV, V straight tuned songs.
CC a guitar "beast"! LOL 🤣🤣🤣
@@magna116 why are people like this? What ticks in the head to make someone feel the need to s*** on someone's opinion, with nothing to gain except a bump to a low self esteem?
Was always my fave on mtv. Couldn’t wait for it to come on the tv!
I don't know why people hate on Poison so much, because they delivered great cruising music in the 80s. Maybe you had to be there, but when they came on the scene, we definitely noticed, and the music has held up pretty well.
I've seen them a few times. They are one of those bands where you can almost feel the energy going back and forth from the stage to the audience. They may not be the most talented band but they make up for it in good song writing and stage charisma. CC Deville is a great guitarist too. He just doesn't get to his full potential with Poison songs. He is an actual example of the term "underrated" musicians. (that term is WAY overused)
It's nothing but image first fakery with a penchant for the misogynistic. Maybe that's why so many people hate on them!
@@Katehowe3010 You just described most of the hair metal scene haha. Most of those bands were built for partying and getting laid. A record deal and a hit song was just icing on the cake.
When there were a hundred similar hair metal bands making similar music at the same time, Poison was among the best... but never really measured up to the music or behind-the-scenes debauchery of Motley Crue. Some of it was also probably jealousy at being "the hair metal band that chicks really dig".
@@evilfantasy69 Precisely. Kind of got the whole thing out of order didn't they!
Poison did for us rockers what boy bands did for their fans. Its just pure POP genius and no one did it better than them. They gave people that wanted to rock, sing along, and roll their windows down and cruise everything they wanted.
sometime around 1998, I was living in Stockton, CA. I wound up at Karaoke night at a Holiday Inn there. I got up and sang "Every Rose Has it's Thorn" (pretty good if I say so myself) sat down at the bar to get another drink and this very lovely lady sits down next to me and strikes up a conversation. Admittedly a bit surprising - she was out of my league for sure, and i was a bit taken that she'd sit down next to me. (And I was married - so I wasnt there to pick up girls anyways - still am married by the way - to the same woman as I was in 98...but I digress.)
She lady explained she knew the band Poison personally - it was her fav band and that "Fallen Angel" was her fav song and asked if I would do that one for her.
We talked a little bit before my turn came up to do the song. I asked her why Fallen Angel was her fav - i wondered if it was a art-imitating-life things for her. Turns out she was the "smalltown girl" model in the video that steps off the bus at the end, prompting Lex's "Oh another one!"
She was a fun person to be around we hung out about an hour or hour and half, and told me a lot of stories of hanging out with the band, and other L.A. bands she knew. And she complimented me on singing both the Poison songs. I did a Bryan Adams song that night too (my fav of his, "Run To You") which she said I was much better with his style (because I have a natural fry to my voice when I sing - very bob segar like). She kissed me on the cheek, said goodbye and we went our separate ways. I don't remember her name, but I do remember going to Hollywood Video store the next day to rent a video of Poison's song/video discography (collection of their music videos) just so I could watch this video and see what she looked like in the video. I mean her saying she was the gal from the video could have been a complete bologna story for all I knew - but when I saw the video i knew for sure it was her.
This song was always one of my faves, but for that reason, this song has had a special memory to me in the past two-and-half decades. "Nothing But a Good Time" is my overall fav though.
Loved this song when it came out. Straight to the point message. The glam rock side of GNR’s Welcome to the Jungle lol.
Saw them in concert in 92.
I was going to comment about how this and GNR’s song go almost hand in hand.
@@robclark8889yes but wthj is a far angry and heavier song
Red leather worn all around....on the guys! Definitely an 80's video and I love it!
There’s black & white to rock music too. Motley Crüe is the black, and Poison is the white. They both accomplish the same thing in rock music, but just with a different look and vibe.
Thank you for finally doing this song! One of my favorites from Poison, such a good bop.
Poison is from Pennsylvania, the moved to Hollywood back in the early 80s. This song is "sort of" audobiographical
Brad and Lex, this song hit very close to home for them. I’m from the same small town in Pennsylvania that lead singer Bret Michaels is from. The band were all from the east coast and drove out to LA to try and make it as rockstars. A girl that was a friend of his went out to LA too and fell on very rough times. That was the inspiration for the song.
Born in 1970 loved the 80’s…Galm era concerts were always great…RATT Dokken Crue Poison Cinderella Skid Row etc….
My favorite poison song
Excellent song!!
This and Ride Thw Wind are my two favorite songs from Poison.
Definitely my favorite secret shame power rock sing at the top of my lungs in the shower songs!!!!
3 members ( singer, drummer and bass guitar) are from a small town outside of Harrisburg, PA. They were originally named Paris which they changed to Poison.
Not 100% correct. CC Deville(lead guitar) was from New York and Bobby Dall(bass guitar) was from Florida.
Such a Message In That Song. Poison Band Did Tend To Have Something To Say In Their Songs. Great Band. ❤😊
song was written by CC Deville and Bret Michaels and is about one of their friends who left her family to pursue a career in LA and it didnt work out..
Very 80's, great memories
This album was unstoppable
One of, if not the best Poison song.
easy opening riff.. hard af solos..
In the 1980s, thousands of teens left home for Hollywood, hoping to make it big in movies or music. So many of them failed and many of them ended up dead.
It's always the same reaction with these 2 when they are watching the 80's metal scene. LOL. He is honestly in pain watching while she's bouncing and grooving to the song with a smile. Every time!!!
My favorite poison and hair band song, ever. Performed by my favorite hair band ever
Always loved this song. Very catchy great guitar work tells a good story.
Cinderella “No body’s fool” live from Moscow…you’ll love it…!!!! 🤟🏽😁
love this band this was my 80 child memory band
Kickass tune from Poison. 1988. Second album. Love it. Also recommend from Frehleys Comet a song with the same title. Check it out. I dont believe you'd be disappointed.🤟🤟
I didn't really like Poison back in the day as I was (and still am) a true blue Rush fan. However, several years ago I bought their catalog and I am really appreciating their sound now along with some of the other bands of the era such as Britney Fox and Cinderella. They were talented bands.
Anthony James plays the creepy agent in this. He was such a great character actor. He played many villainous roles over the years with his last being in the award winning movie Unforgiven. I'm now going to have to go back and watch Naked Gun 2 1/2 just to see his role in that.
Thumbs up if you were a lucky one to get the original (uncensored long tongue) version of this CD/Cassette cover!!! I did!
Not only did I get (and still have) that CD cover, but I also got (but no longer have) the cardboard “longbox” they used to come in.
Always thought of this song and GnR's Welcome to the Jungle together.
Poison said they had written 'Fallen angel' about a girl they had known, who fell to the pitfalls of life in L.A.
They themselves were a band who left Pennsylvania in the 80's to move to L.A. to become 'rock stars'... Poison was a big draw in the L.A. clubs for years, but no one in the music industry thought they were any good. When they got signed in 1986, their first album 'Look what the cat dragged in' was panned by industry insiders, but it took off in 1987 and went 3x platinum, much to the shock of the critics.
fans matter , critics dont
As usual the critics were wrong. Like they said autograph was the next big band. We all know how that turned out. 1 hit wonder.
"No one thought they were any good"
I was a budding guitarist back then and was into Dokken and Ratt..Or better put,..George Lynch and Warren DeMartini.
I always thought they were a good band and CC was damn good. 40 years later and I still do.
@@stricknine8623 "No one in the music industry" (Can't u read???) in 1986 thought that Poison were any good. Even producer Ric Browde (who produced 'Look what the cat dragged in') thought Poison was crap, they never worked w/ him again.
Michael Wagener (producer of Skid Row, Dokken, Accept, etc.) mixed the first Poison album and thought 'Look what the cat dragged in' was so poor that he took a cash sum instead of a royalty rate... Wagener called it one of his "biggest mistakes" after it sold 3 million copies by 1987!
But then again, music industry folks are always slow to catch on... They have no idea about the potential of certain bands.
The UK labels in 1962 thought The Beatles were crap. Even producer George Martin was not impressed when he heard their tapes, but after he met them, he was convinced that they were special.
AC/DC were nearly dropped by their American label in 1976 because they thought the album 'Dirty deeds done dirt cheap' was a poor record... They finally released it in 1981 and it sold 6 million copies.
No one wanted to sign Metallica in 1983... it was Megaforce Records who funded their first album, and they weren't taken seriously until 1985 when 'Ride the Lightning' was starting to sell.
Pantera were passed over for years and were signed in 1990 only after a hurricane stranded the A&R guy in Texas, and he saw them live.
Guns N' Roses were left without any opportunity because labels did not want to deal w/ their chaos... Even after 'Appetite for destruction' was recorded in 1986, the industry insiders hated the record.
Ratt was unsigned for years... it wasn't until the 1983 EP was released independently, when Ratt started selling records and were finally signed in 1984.
Twisted Sister had been dismissed by the music industry for years... from the 70's to the early 80's.
Dokken were signed in Europe in 1981 and were left in limbo for years until 1983, because the US labels did not think much of the debut album 'Breaking the chains'.
Quiet Riot had been part of the L.A. scene since the 70's... US record labels did not give them a chance until 1983. The success of 'Metal Health' was a huge shock to the music industry.
They thought Motley Crue was 'awful' in 1981, but the sales of 'Too fast for love' convinced them by 1983 that Motley Crue could sell records.
Scorpions were signed by RCA in America in the 70's, but they refused to support the band or bring them to the US. It was only after they switched to Mercury Records in 1979 when the Scorpions finally got to tour America and were a platinum-selling band by 1981.
There was a lot of BS by the record companies back then that bands had to overcome before they made it big.
So many major rock/ metal bands had music industry honchos telling them that they s++ked... But they showed 'em! 😈
Judas Priest... Iron Maiden ... Kiss... Aerosmith... Def Leppard ... L.A. Guns ... Motorhead ... Skid Row ... Nirvana ... Slipknot... System of a Down ... Slayer ...
They all had the same struggle to get people in the music industry to take them seriously.
@@sumonjamal1653 I admit that I paraphrased your comment but I don't have any new or different understanding after that lengthy comment.
I simply told you what I thought about them in regard to no one liking them "in the music business"
I've been playing guitar for 43 years and consistently doing live gigs in and outside of Atlanta for the last 28 years.
I certainly have plenty of opinions about rock bands, guitarists, drummers, bass players, ect., in general.
To be clear, nothing that I stated was some sort of rebuttal to what you commented. It was only about having a different opinion than those record labels had of this band.
Wife here..This came out when I was 14..LOVED IT.., You know people do hate on these guys so bad..., I saw them in Atlanta GA a few months ago..AMAZING.., Hey Brad you hit the nail on the head with their personal story..!!..Back in the eighties big competition with Motley Crue..I would of never imagined them touring ❤ together..It was Incredible..!!..Relevant today..Perfectly Stated You Guys!!
Brad: "I would hate to be single right now."
Me: **crying alone in my bedroom**
I wore out this cd/cassette in high school (Open up and say .....Ahh) such a fun and good cd. I thought I wore it out, but then I had this song on one of my playlists and I stated listening to it over and over again recently. Such a great song.
I was 10 when this came out one of my favorite tapes that kept getting ate. Poison and gnr was life then
Yep, these bands are singing about themselves
Love Poison - "Swallow this live" is one of my top 5 albums i would take on a desert island. Poison are very underrated kick-ass blues rock...
if you want blues-rock - think Poison...
Terrific video! She is crazy gorgeous
The girl in the video is Susie Hatton. She was dating frontman Bret Michaels at the time this video was made. 1988-89
Fallen Angel is a great song
This is my favorite Poison song.
Best Poison song!
It was smi- autobiography the opening was from Brett micheals conversation he had with his family when poison moved from Harrisburg pa to Los Angeles
Life on the strip
missed this song last time i saw poison in concert , a girl close to me passed out and people were packed in so tight and steppin all over her , i yelled but they couldnt hear me over the loudness of the speakers so i started elbowing everybody around her out of the way , picked her up and carried her to the 1st aid spot and got her revived and made sure she was alright , missed a favorite song , but it was worth it to save her ;)
I never thought I'd see a reaction to this song. I know it's not one of your bigger ones but I'm glad to see it
Love this song. Never seen the video
Like Poison like that song Fallen Angel. Like your reaction.
Love it
Remember this on MTV in middle school
One of my favorites!
Brilliant, loved it from the moment it first came out!
Love Poison!!
That song was based on the group friend
The story is the girl was a friend on Bret Michaels from his home town, who went to Hollywood and got caught up in the party and drug scene.
Nice pause point Brad :)
Changing of the guards by Bob Dylan
Poison SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN
🤘🤘 Rock N Roll.
Poison 4Ever!!! Hit it CeCe!!!
Two things stand out in my memory of Poison. This song, the first song of theirs that I heard, and their first album I bought.
The other one, well, that involved a live performance by the band that did not go too well.
Still love them though, and al my 80's metal bands. 😀🤘
CC is so underrated...
Do you wanna hear hard stuff? The Band "Dirty Loops" from sweden!!! Start with the Song "Thriller" (Michael Jackson Cover) with Cory Wong, then try the Song "Next to you", " Follow the light" THEN "Work sh!t out" and Breakdown...I throw my Bass-Guitar in the Corner of the Room...what awesome musicians ;-) Groovy days, Kay
Seem them so many times can't even count them!!!
Gary Hoey - hocus pokus
Extreme - play with me ( bill&teds) soundtrack
Faith no more -Stripsearch
They wrote this song because this shit happens allllll the time here in Hollywwod, lol....good reaction, great song!
Her name is Susie Hatton who did a video called Blue Monday which is actually pretty good.
i recommend watching the poison guitar guy CC on rock n roll jeopardy. he cleaned up.
I remember that. CC and Dave Mustaine both crushed that show!
They were friends with the fallen angel. I believe she was from the same area in Pennsylvania they were from
Try blackberry smoke song Sleeping Dogs 🎸🐕🦺
Way, way back. youth always thought of moving to Ca ( Hollywood ) for fortune and fame. The sad thing is the majority have gone missing, became homeless, drug addicts, pimped out or killed. And it was just a revolving door
The band Poison came from Indiana and moved to LA and the sunset strip Hollywood scene and had many girlfriends who were strippers that came similar backgrounds of going out west to make it
I think the word Lex was looking for to describe the woman she knew is "jaded".
These guys took some crap for being "Hair Metal" but in my not-so-humble opinion, they were one of the best Rock bands of the 80's, regardless of the gimmicks.🤘✊
The epitome of glam metal/rock for that decade, and quite a crowd-pleasing band let me tell you. The first time I saw them they were opening for Ratt, and with half the amount of stage space they put on one of the BEST hard rock performances of any band I'd seen up to that point. I'm talking synced movements, hair-whipping, gymnastics, everything...they certainly took a page out of David Lee Roth's book, that's for sure. I was hooked instantly. Another 'glam' band from that era (the tail end of it anyway), less successful but a bit grittier too, which I think you'd enjoy is Shotgun Messiah -- especially their hit "Don't Care Bout Nothin" from 1989...an anthemic rocker with angry lyrics for when you're having one of those bad days, hehe, and the metal can help relieve it for you. 🤘
I highly suggest every Rose has its Thorn if you haven't heard it yet and unskinny bop but you can't go wrong with any poison song
Actor Anthony James playing the sleazy guy!
Poison are so cheesy...God I love them! Saw them over the summer in DC - fantastic!
CC Deville is a great guitarist
C. C. Deville is great guitarist. Rikki Rocket is great drummer. Bret Michaels has a great voice. And Bobby Dahl is a good bassist.
Great reaction. You two are jewels.
It's bad now.. I agree.. This was in the 80's and if you notice the singer got the girl after she'd been thru the scum bag guy!
If I’m driving down the road and this song comes on, 100% guarantee I’ll be in danger of a speeding ticket
I have a rare jem for you, Rick Derringer, Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo, 1973.
Don't worry, Bret will rescue you on his taxi motorcycle 😂
It's one of my favorite songs by Poison. If you haven't already, you should also check out Every Rose Has Its Thorn, by Poison. It's a lot slower and another great one from the same album.
The lady in the video was lead singer Bret Michaels girlfriend at the time
Based on a true story of someone the band knew
The girl in the video was a model and Brets girlfriend at the time. She also tried to be a singer with Brets help but was not successful. The story is based on some of her unpleasant memories in LA.
Depicts how Hollywood can eat you up and spit you out.
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️
Great Christian band you can’t get music like this anymore long live the 80s
?wtf
...pure cheez...but still fun
Poison was definitely one of the Top 5 “Hair Metal Bands”. I hate the term. They are one of the few to have hits in the 90’s.

Great song
Man heard this a thousand times but CC Deville lead sounds angry, wonder if he's got some stories?
Poison great band! Lots of awesome tunes! Checkout The band Santa Cruz-“Young blood rising”” it will rock your world!👍
Poison is wayyyy underrated and wayyyy better than motley Crue yeah I said it
